Gallaudet University

The National Deaf Life Museum is a museum focusing on the culture and history of deaf and hard of hearing people in the United States. Founded in 2007 as the Gallaudet University Museum, the museum is operated by Gallaudet University and located on the school's campus in Washington, D.C. The museum formally opened in 2014 and changed its name to the National Deaf Life Museum in 2019.

The Thomas Gallaudet Memorial is a sculpture by Daniel Chester French located on the campus of Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., United States. The statue depicts Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet siting in a chair and Alice Cogswell standing at his side.

Ivy City is a small neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C., in the United States. About half the neighborhood is industrial or formerly industrial, dominated by warehouses. The Ivy City Yard, a railroad coach yard and maintenance facility for the passenger railroad Amtrak, is situated northwest across New York Avenue NE. Ivy City was laid out as a suburban development for African Americans in 1873. Development was slow. From 1879 to 1901, the neighborhood hosted the Ivy City Racetrack, a major horse racing facility in the District of Columbia. Construction on the rail yard began in 1907 and was complete within a year, although much of the facilities there were demolished in 1953 and 1954 as railroads switched from coal-fired locomotives to diesel-fueled or electric engines. The Alexander Crummell School, a major focal point of the community, opened in 1911. After some years of enrollment decline, it closed in 1972 but has not been demolished. The area has undergone some gentrification in the 21st century, although people living in the residential core of Ivy City remain very poor and unemployment is high.

The Gallaudet College Historic District is a National Historic Landmark District encompassing the historic early campus of Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Gallaudet is the first school of higher education to be devoted to the education of the deaf and hard of hearing. Its campus was planned by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, and its Gothic buildings were designed by Frederick Withers. The main Gallaudet College building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965. The landmarked area was increased to cover the southern part of the campus, and was renamed as a historic district in 1974.

Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES) is a private day school serving deaf and hard of hearing students from birth through grade 8 on the campus of Gallaudet University in the Trinidad neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Alongside Model Secondary School for the Deaf, it is a federally funded, tuition-free demonstration school administered by the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University.

The Model Secondary School (MSSD) is a residential four-year high school for deaf and hard-of-hearing students located on the Gallaudet University campus in Washington, D.C.

The President's House was built in 1868. It is on the campus of Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. On campus, it is known as the Edward Miner Gallaudet Residence, after the university's first president, who was the first to occupy the house. More popularly, it is known as House One. It is a 35-room High Victorian Gothic mansion.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Union Market was formally known as Union Terminal Market when it started as a replacement market center for the old Center Market located near the mall in 1931. It became an important part of the Washington food infrastructure to feed a growing city population. It featured retail and wholesales stores as well as a farmers' market which ran into trouble with the city in the 1960s due to its failure to comply with sanitation and safety standards. A new building was completed in 1967 to replace it and is today the food hall carrying the name "Union Market". After falling in disrepair in the 1980s and 1990s, the area is being revived as a hip destination for restaurant and night life near NoMa and H Street. While for many it is a specific building containing the gourmet food hall, it is in fact an area that today features restaurants, a small movie theater, an ice cream factory and new luxury apartment buildings in Northeast Washington, D.C. off of Florida Avenue NE. These new venues are slowly replacing the old stores that had been the heart and soul of the market.

El Cielo is a restaurant in Washington, D.C., United States. Sometimes referred to as "El Cielo DC", the restaurant is a branch of Colombian chef Juan Manuel "Juanma" Barrientos' Medellín-based restaurant, with sibling establishments in Bogotá and Miami. The Washington, D.C. restaurant has received a Michelin star.

8th Street is a streetcar station, located across the intersection of H Street NE and 8th Street NE. It is on the H Street/Benning Road Line of the DC Streetcar system.

West Virginia Avenue is an avenue in Washington, DC running from K Street NE to New York Avenue NE. It was named after the State of West Virginia which entered the Union in 1863.

The Northeast Temple and Market Company was a building complex located on the Southwest corner of H Street NE and 12th NE in Washington, DC. It housed a covered farmer's market at the corner as well as a Temple where local lodges met and organized events starting in 1897.
