Nanshi River

The Beishi River (Chinese: 北勢溪; Hanyu Pinyin: Běishì Xī; Tongyong Pinyin: Běishìh Si; Wade–Giles: Pei3-shih4 Hsi1; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Pak-sì-khe) is a river in northern Taiwan. It flows through New Taipei City and Yilan County for 50 kilometres (31 mi). It is one of tributaries of Xindian River. The river is impounded by the Fetsui Reservoir in Shiding District, New Taipei City. The Beishi River Historical Trail is a 2.6 kilometre trail that offers views of the river.

Feicui Dam (traditional Chinese: 翡翠水壩; simplified Chinese: 翡翠水坝; pinyin: Fěicuì Shuǐbà; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Húi-chhùi Chúi-pà) is a double curvature concrete arch dam on the Beishi River in Shiding District, New Taipei, Taiwan, forming Feicui Reservoir (翡翠水庫). The dam is located in Shiding District, New Taipei City, and is usually misunderstood as the principal water source for the Greater Taipei area (In fact, the principal water source for the Greater Taipei area is Nanshi River. Feicui Dam, by contrast, is the water source in reserve). The name of the dam and reservoir translates as "emerald lake", in reference to the pure quality of the water. The area is managed by the Taipei Feicui Reservoir Administration. Public access is heavily restricted in order to protect water quality, which is among the highest of Taiwan's reservoirs.

Wulai District (Atayal: Ulay; Chinese: 烏來區; pinyin: Wūlái Qū; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: U-lai-khu) is a mountain indigenous district in southern New Taipei City in northern Taiwan. It sits near the border with Taipei and is famous for its hot springs. It is the largest district in New Taipei, as well as the most mountainous, and is home to the indigenous Atayal people.

"Bitan" literally means "green lake", referring to where the Xindian River widens to form the lake. There is a well-known suspension bridge that is used only by pedestrians. The bridge can be seen on the crest of Xindian. There are many restaurants, carnival activities, and pedal boats in the area.

The Taipei Metro Xindian station (formerly transliterated as Hsintien Station until 2003) is the southern terminus of the Songshan–Xindian line located in Xindian District, New Taipei, Taiwan.
