CHEO is a pediatric health-care and research centre located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. CHEO is also a tertiary trauma centre for children in Eastern Ontario, Nunavut, Northern Ontario and the Outaouais region of Quebec and one of only seven Level I trauma centres for children in Canada (others being The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, the Montreal Children's Hospital in Montreal, the Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine in Montreal, IWK Health Centre in Halifax, Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary, Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, and BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver). It is affiliated with The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa, and is funded by the provincial Government of Ontario. CHEO first opened its doors on May 17, 1974, and is located at 401 Smyth Road, Ottawa, Ontario. CHEO includes a hospital, children's treatment centre, school and research institute, with satellite services located throughout Eastern Ontario. CHEO provides complex pediatric care, research and education. CHEO is a founding member of Kids Health Alliance, a network of partners. In addition to its clinical mandate, CHEO is an academic health science centre. Each year, it provides education to 2,300 future pediatricians, nurses, and other health professionals.

Alta Vista Ward (Ward 18) is a city ward in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada represented on Ottawa City Council. Alta Vista Ward was created prior to the 1966 election when Gloucester Ward was split in half due to population growth in the Alta Vista area. Until the 1972 elections, the ward was represented by two councillors (then called aldermen). Prior to the 1980 election, the Ward was split in half, with the western half remaining as Alta Vista ward and the eastern half became Canterbury Ward. They were reunited prior to the 1994 Election and was known as Ward 10, and given the name Alta Vista-Canterbury Ward in 1995. During this time, on regional council it was known as just Alta Vista Ward. It was renamed to Alta Vista in 2000. The ward is located in Ottawa's southeast end, and covers the neighbourhoods of Eastway Gardens, Riverview, Alta Vista, Heron Gate and Sheffield Glen. The Ward is often advertised by candidates as "Alta Vista-Canterbury-Riverview", as there was a plan to name it that in 1997. The ward covers an area of 20.3 km2. There is only a small boundary change for the 2006 election: the boundary will follow Highway 417 instead of the old city limits from Walkley north to the CPR right-of-way. Until 2014, the ward was represented by Peter Hume. He defeated incumbent Allan Higdon in the 2000 election. It was a battle of incumbents, as Hume was a regional councillor until the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton was abolished. Jean Cloutier replaced Hume in 2014. Key issues affecting the Alta Vista ward since 2000 have been: the proposed Alta Vista transportation corridor Archived 2006-10-03 at the Wayback Machine, the fate of the Canada Science and Technology Museum, as well as the O-Train expansion.

The Lycée Claudel d'Ottawa is a French-language private school in Ottawa built in the early 1960s. It was renovated by Edward J. Cuhaci to provide an infill between two existing school buildings comprising classrooms and a 600-seat auditorium. It is located on Lycée Place (formerly Old Riverside Drive). The school has approximately 1000 students in grades JK-12. It is named after the French poet Paul Claudel, and follows the French international curriculum. All classes, with the exception of language classes, are taught in French, and students complete the French baccalaureat at the end of grade 12 (called "Terminale"). The Lycée Paul Claudel has the highest average results among French overseas schools (of which there are over 300) as of Spring 2013.

Lycée Claudel station (formerly Abbey station) is a bus stop on Ottawa's Transitway served by OC Transpo buses. It is located on Ottawa's Southeast Transitway, and is one stop south of the main hub of Hurdman. The station is named for the adjacent French private school Lycée Claudel d'Ottawa. The station's former name Abbey refers to nearby Abbey Road, a short local road which is located further behind the school and the CN railway (which runs parallel to the Transitway). The Lycée Claudel stop is located between Riverside Drive and Old Riverside Drive just south of Hincks Lane. The area has many high-density apartment complexes, which are the main trip generators for this station along with the students of Lycée Claudel.

Smyth station is a bus stop on Ottawa's Transitway served by OC Transpo buses. It is located in the south-eastern transitway section on Frobisher Lane near Smyth Road. Most of its users come from the six apartment highrises in face of it and the business area on nearby Alta Vista Drive, because of the Rideau River behind the station and a train line on the other side of the apartments.

Riverview (also known as Riverview Park) is a neighbourhood in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is southeast of the downtown adjacent to the Rideau River, its location on which is its namesake. The 2021 Census population of Riverview is 13,113.

The Ottawa Hospital's General Campus is one of three main campuses of The Ottawa Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. With 569 beds, the General Campus includes The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre and the Cancer Centre. The Ottawa General Hospital opened in 1845 at the current site of the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital in the ByWard Market area of Ottawa. In 1980, the General moved to its current location at 501 Smyth Road.

The Faculty of Medicine (French: Faculté de médecine) at the University of Ottawa is a bilingual medical school in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada founded in 1945. It is located at a campus centred on Roger-Guindon Hall in the east end of Ottawa and is attached to the Ottawa Hospital's General Campus. The Health Sciences Complex is separate from the downtown University of Ottawa campus.

Hurdman is a station on Ottawa's O-Train Confederation Line, and bus rapid transit (BRT) system, transitway.

Riverside is an OC Transpo bus station on Ottawa's Transitway that is connected to the Riverside Campus of The Ottawa Hospital near the intersection of Smyth Road and Riverside Drive. Stairs and elevators from the platform level lead directly to the interior of the hospital, making bus travel easy for medical appointments even in bad weather. The hospital is the primary trip generator and main purpose for this station. There are no connecting bus routes here. The station was built when the hospital underwent a major expansion of its facility. It agreed to let the transitway pass in its terrain and open a new station as there were initially no stations to be built at that location. The 4,200 square feet new administration wing and Transit station was completed in 1991.

Alta Vista is a neighbourhood in Alta Vista Ward in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Its boundaries according to the Alta Vista Community Association are that part of Alta Vista Ward south of Smyth Road in the north, north of Walkley Road and east of the Rideau River (and Bank Street), and west of the "greenspace underneath Haig Drive". However, the name is ambiguous, as there are several sub-neighbourhoods in this area, (see list below), as the neighbourhood could refer to the ward as a whole, down to the core Alta Vista area, (which could be defined as south of Pleasant Park Road, north of Heron Road, and west of the eastern greenspace corridor), centred on Alta Vista Drive. Alta Vista Drive is a major street running through the neighbourhood, and shares its name. Both are named for their relative height, as the neighbourhood is generally higher than most of the city. Alta Vista is a highly residential neighbourhood with a strong community, several schools, religious buildings of many faiths, and community centres. It also has a vast amount of greenspace and parks, much of which is part of the Alta Vista Transportation Corridor Environmental Assessment Ottawa East Community Association. The OC Transpo Transitway also runs through Alta Vista, with two stations in the neighbourhood itself (Pleasant Park and Riverside) as well as two just outside (Billings Bridge and Smyth), serving as a vital transit link to the rest of the city. The General Campus of the Ottawa Hospital, and The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario are located just on the north side of Smyth Road, in Riverview, while the Riverside Campus of the Ottawa Hospital is located at Smyth and Riverside Drive. There are two shopping malls in and around Alta Vista: the Billings Bridge Plaza Shopping Centre at Bank Street and Riverside and the Elmvale Shopping Centre at St. Laurent and Smyth. Alta Vista had a population of about 24,726 as of the Canada 2021 Census (Community Association borders).

Pleasant Park station is a bus stop on Ottawa's Transitway served by OC Transpo buses. It is located in the southeastern transitway section at Pleasant Park Road (a collector road through Alta Vista) near Riverside Drive. The station is mostly used by people who take the 49 bus to or from Alta Vista, or by local residents in the nearby residential areas. The station has two levels: one connecting to Pleasant Park Road, the other to the transitway. It is one of the more lightly used stations due to the lack of any other trip generators or transfer connections.
