Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park

Wood Canyon Creek is a 2.8 mi (4.5 km) perennial stream in Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, Orange County, California. A tributary of Aliso Creek, it drains a deep undeveloped valley to the west of Aliso Viejo. The Wood Canyon was populated by the Acjachemen tribe hundreds of years ago; many archaeological sites along the creek provide evidence of their habitation. Spanish explorers and colonists arrived in the mid-18th century, establishing missions and a rancho that extended around the Aliso Creek watershed. Wood Canyon was used first as a cattle grazing area; after California became part of the United States, it was used to graze sheep. From the 1960s onward, the creek's flow has been heavily affected by urban runoff from suburban residential development. The Wood Canyon watershed drains a portion of the San Joaquin Hills, a short coastal mountain range that uplifted beginning in the mid-Pleistocene (1.22 MYA).

Soka University of America (SUA) is a private liberal arts college in Aliso Viejo, California. Originally founded in 1987, it was established on its current campus in 2001 by Daisaku Ikeda, the founder of the Soka Gakkai International Buddhist movement. Though affiliated with Soka Gakkai, it maintains a secular curriculum which emphasizes pacifism, human rights, and the creative coexistence of nature and humanity.: 6 A much larger and older sister school, Sōka University in Japan, is located in Hachiōji, Tokyo. SUA encompasses both a four-year liberal arts college and a graduate school offering a Master's program in Educational Leadership and Societal Change. Temple Hill is the second highest peak in the San Joaquin Hills area of Orange County, California, United States. Its elevation is 1,038 feet (316 m). The hill is bordered on the west by Laguna Canyon and on the east by Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, to which it provides hiking and biking trailheads. It dominates the southern portion of Laguna Beach between downtown and Aliso Creek. The summit provides views of Saddleback Valley to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the south, and most of Orange County up to the San Gabriel Mountains to the north. Temple Hill has 7 amateur radio repeaters and a beacon at its summit that are maintained by South Orange Amateur Radio Association

Alta Laguna Park is a community park atop Temple Hill, the second highest peak of the San Joaquin Hills, in Laguna Beach, California. It is located at the north end of the Top of the World neighborhood.The neighborhood is named for its elevation of about 1,027 ft (313 m) above sea level, overlooking Saddleback Valley and the Pacific Ocean. Visitors can see most of Orange County from the park on a particularly clear day. The park provides a hiking and biking trailhead for the Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. The Top of the World Reservoir is in a tank underneath the park.

The Top of the World Reservoir, officially the Richard Jahraus Top of the World Reservoir is an artificial lake in Laguna Beach, California. Dedicated on October 27, 1996, it was named after J. Richard Jahraus, the current Director and President of the Laguna Beach County Water District at the Time. It has a capacity of 3,000,000 US gal (2,500,000 imp gal). Its main use is to supply water for authorities to fight against wildfires, with the high elevation allowing water circulation despite power outages. The lake is underground in a tank, below the Alta Laguna Park.

The 1993 Laguna Fire or Laguna Canyon Fire was a destructive wildfire in Orange County, California. After igniting on October 27, the fire burned more than 16,000 acres (6,500 hectares) and destroyed hundreds of homes before it was contained on October 31. The fire caused $528 million in damages, becoming one of the most costly fires in U.S. history. It was part of a larger outbreak of wildfires that week in Southern California, driven by Santa Ana winds.

Laguna Niguel Regional Park is a public park in Laguna Niguel, in southern Orange County, California. Its main feature is Laguna Niguel Lake (also known as Sulphur Creek Reservoir), located within the park's boundaries. Laguna Niguel's 4th of July fireworks show is held at the park every year.

The Chet Holifield Federal Building, colloquially known as "the Ziggurat Building", is a United States government building in Laguna Niguel, California. It was built between 1968 and 1971 for North American Aviation/Rockwell International, and designed by William Pereira. Since 1974 it has been owned and managed by the General Services Administration. National Archives and Records Administration had holdings for the Pacific region stored here, but has since moved to another location. Primary tenants are now regional offices of the United States Department of Homeland Security and the Internal Revenue Service.

Sulphur Creek Dam is a dam across Sulphur Creek in Orange County, California. The dam creates Laguna Niguel Lake and is entirely within the city of Laguna Niguel. The reservoir is used for water reclamation storage and recreation, and is the main attraction of Laguna Niguel Regional Park, which surrounds it.

Laguna Niguel Lake, formerly known as Sulphur Creek Reservoir, is an artificial 44-acre (180,000 m2) fishing and recreational lake in Laguna Niguel, California. It is created by the Sulphur Creek Dam, which was completed in 1966. It is located at 33°32′59″N 117°42′22″W and is 190 feet (58 m) above sea level. It is fed from two sources, one of which is Sulphur Creek itself and the other, a storm drain. It is accessed from La Paz Road, which runs along its east shore. Surrounding the reservoir is the Laguna Niguel Regional Park. In addition, within the lake on the large island is a protected bird sanctuary. There is a fee to access the park and lake which costs $3 on weekdays, $5 on weekends, and $7 on holidays.
