The Shelter (New York City)

Area was a themed nightclub that operated from 1983 to 1987 at 157 Hudson Street in Manhattan, New York City. The club was known for its unusual invitations.The club was founded by brothers Eric Goode and Christopher Goode, Shawn Hausman and Darius Azari. The brick building housing Area was originally built in 1866 to house the stables of American Express.Area was the first nightclub using themed decors that on average changed every six weeks. Some of the themes were "art", "suburbia", and "disco". The art department was headed by Eric and Jennifer Goode, Serge Becker, and performance and visual artists. The venue was open from Wednesday to Saturday, 11 pm till 4 am, with Wednesday nights reserved to special parties for Brian Ferry, Interview Magazine, as well as celebrity birthday parties. The life of the club is chronicled in the book Area: 1983-1987 by Eric and Jennifer Goode.Area attracted many celebrities. Stephen Saben and Michael Musto, writing for Details magazine and The Village Voice respectively, chronicled the doings there. Musto's book, Downtown. looked back on the phenomenon. There are several mentions of Area in Andy Warhol's diaries. Ben Buchanan was the official photographer for the club and was there most nights documenting the scene. These photos were in Details every month and often in the New York Post and Daily News. In February 1985, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Jonathan Larson conceived of his unpublished musical Superbia while in Area's projectionist's booth.

Wetlands Preserve, commonly referred to as Wetlands, was a nightclub in New York City that opened in 1989 and closed in 2001. It was located at 161 Hudson Street in Manhattan's Tribeca neighborhood. Wetlands has been called "ground zero for post-Grateful Dead jam bands", fostering a community of semi-improvisational rock bands who went on to achieve mainstream success in the 1990s.

The PDC works in accordance with the political orientation of the Spartacist League. The committee organizes demonstrations and performs legal work in defense of "class struggle" prisoners. Its longest standing campaign has been in defense of Mumia Abu-Jamal. It has also organized counterdemonstrations in response to rallies planned by the Ku Klux Klan and white supremacists.

The Roebling Building is an industrial structure at 169 Hudson Street in the Tribeca neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. Dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, it was named after the John A. Roebling family, known for their work in wire rope manufacturing, most notably used in the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge. The building originally served as a warehouse and manufacturing facility for John A. Roebling's Sons Company, contributing to New York City’s industrial economy during its period of rapid growth.

St. John's Park was a 19th-century park and square, and the neighborhood of townhouses around it, in what is now the Tribeca neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, New York City. The square was bounded by Varick Street, Laight Street, Hudson Street and Beach Street, now also known for that block as Ericsson Place. Although the name "St. John's Park" is still in use, it is no longer a park and is inaccessible to the public.The land was part of a plantation owned by an early settler to New Netherland and was later owned by the English Crown, who deeded it to Trinity Church. The church built St. John's Chapel and laid out "Hudson Square", creating New York City's first development of townhouses around a private park. By 1827 the neighborhood had become known as "St. John's Park" and remained fashionable until about 1850. In 1866 it was sold to Cornelius Vanderbilt's Hudson River Railway Company and became the location of St. John's Park Freight Depot, the railroad's southern terminus. The terminal was demolished in 1927 to allow construction of exits from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's Holland Tunnel.

Greenwich Street is a north–south street in the New York City borough of Manhattan. It extends from the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District at its northernmost end to its southern end at Battery Park. Greenwich Street runs through the Meatpacking District, the West Village, Hudson Square, and Tribeca. Main east–west streets crossed include, from north to south, Christopher Street, Houston Street, Canal Street, and Chambers Street. North of Canal Street, traffic travels northbound on Greenwich Street; south of Canal Street, it travels southbound.
