The Cedars (Beech Island, South Carolina)

Beech Island Historical Society (BIHS) is a non-profit historical society and museum dedicated to the history of Beech Island, and its county, Aiken County, both of which are situated in the U.S. state of South Carolina.

Beech Island is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Aiken County, South Carolina, United States. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 1,421.

Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site is a state park in South Carolina, United States. Redcliffe Plantation, also known as Redcliffe, completed in 1859, is a Greek Revival plantation house located on the site that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house was designed by the baron Louis Berckmans and was built in 1857. It was built for James Henry Hammond and was home to three generations of his descendants. His great-grandson John Shaw Billings, editor of Time, Life, and Fortune magazines, donated the estate and collections to the people of South Carolina in 1973. The same year it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The Silver Bluff Baptist Church was founded between 1774-1775 in Beech Island, South Carolina, by several enslaved African Americans who organized under elder David George. The historian Albert Raboteau has identified it as the first separate black congregation in the nation, although others contend for that distinction, including the First Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia. After the British captured Savannah in 1778 during the American Revolutionary War, George and his congregation of 30 slaves went to that city, seeking freedom, which the British had promised to slaves who escaped from rebel masters. Those church members who stayed in Savannah after the end of the American Revolutionary War evolved as the First African Baptist Church. George was highly influential in the early black Baptist movement. Resettling by the British with his family and other Black Loyalists in Nova Scotia, he founded a congregation there. George and his family chose to migrate to Freetown, Sierra Leone in 1792, when the British founded this new colony in West Africa. He founded a congregation and Baptist church there as well.

Savannah Town, South Carolina is a defunct settlement that was located in the colonial years on the Savannah River below the Fall Line in present-day Aiken County. In the 1670s the Westo had a village here, but they were displaced by the Savannah (as the English called a local Shawnee band) in a trade war, and it became known by 1685 as Savannah Town. The English colony had traders who did a lucrative business in dressed skins with the Savannah Shawnee. Fortified as a frontier post, the settlement developed and ferry service was established across the river. The town was gradually overtaken by its competitor of Augusta, Georgia, established in 1735 five miles upriver and closer to Indian settlements. Traders here intercepted commerce, sending it to their port of Savannah on the coast. By 1740 Savannah Town was declining, and by 1765 the village was abandoned and the fort closed. Nearby Silver Bluff was the site in 1773-1775 of the first separate black congregation organized in the current United States; most were slaves. During the American Revolutionary War, when the British occupied Savannah, Georgia, most of the congregation members migrated to the city to gain freedom as promised by the British. Some were evacuated with the British in the last days of the war.

The Zubly Cemetery near Beech Island, South Carolina, which is a small community in Aiken County, South Carolina was established around 1790 by Swiss settlers of the nearby New Windsor Township. It illustrates the vernacular burial customs of the period. The town of New Windsor, settled in 1737, eventually became an outpost for Indian traders. Zubly Cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 28, 2002.

The Sand Bar Ferry Bridge is a bridge over the Savannah River along the Richmond–Aiken county line on the eastern edge of Augusta, along the Georgia–South Carolina state line. It carries Georgia State Route 28 and South Carolina Highway 28, which are both known as Sand Bar Ferry Road.

WRDW-TV (channel 12) is a television station in Augusta, Georgia, United States, affiliated with CBS and MyNetworkTV. It is owned by Gray Television alongside Class A NBC affiliate WAGT-CD (channel 26) and low-power Telemundo affiliate WGAT-LD (channel 28). The three stations share studios at The Village at Riverwatch development in Augusta; WRDW-TV's transmitter is located in Beech Island, South Carolina.

WAFJ (88.3 MHz) and WBIJ (88.7 MHz) are non-commercial FM radio stations serving the Augusta metropolitan area, owned by Radio Training Network (RTN). 88.3 WAFJ is licensed to Belvedere, South Carolina and plays contemporary Christian music. WBIJ, 88.7 The Song, is licensed to Saluda, South Carolina and plays modern worship music. The radio studios and offices are on LeCompte Avenue in North Augusta, South Carolina. The stations are listener supported and depends on contributions for operating funding.

WLUB (105.7 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Augusta, Georgia. The station is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. and airs a country music radio format. WLUB calls itself "105.7 The Bull." As with many country stations owned by iHeart, WLUB carries the nationally syndicated Bobby Bones Show from Nashville on weekday mornings. The station is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100 kW from an antenna 371 meters (1217 feet) in height above average terrain (HAAT), giving it a wide coverage area, reaching Columbia, South Carolina to the northeast and nearly to Athens, Georgia to the west. WLUB's studios are located at the Augusta Corporate Center near the I-20/I-520 interchange in Augusta, and the transmitter tower is in Beech Island, South Carolina. WLUB operates a classic rock-formatted station on its HD Radio subchannel and on translator W292EE as Eagle 106.3.

Oakland Plantation, also known as the Wade Glover House, is a historic plantation home located near Beech Island, Aiken County, South Carolina. It was built in 1824–1826, and is a Carolina I-house with minimal mid-19th century and early-20th century additions and alterations. It has a central hall two-over-two floor plan with gable-end chimneys, one-story gallery on the facade, and shed room on the rear elevation. Also on the property are two contributing outbuildings: a frame one-story gable-end dairy house (c. 1850) and a frame one-story gable-end garage (c. 1920). It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

WACG-FM (90.7 FM) is a radio station licensed to Augusta, Georgia. The station is owned by Georgia Public Broadcasting, and is an affiliate of GPB's radio network. WACG-FM began broadcasting June 2, 1970, and was originally owned by Augusta College.
