Calgary Northeast

McKnight–Westwinds station is a CTrain light rail station in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It serves the North-East Line (Route 202) and opened in 2007 as part of the line's first extension. It was the northern terminus of the line until Martindale station opened in 2012. The station is located on an exclusive LRT right of way, north of the interchange at McKnight Boulevard and Métis Trail (formerly 44th St. NE). The station is 13 km from the City Hall Interlocking. 949 spaces are included at the stop, which is designed for commuter access. The station was only the terminus for less than five years, however, as a further extension (3.1 km) of the Northeast line to Saddle Ridge (originally planned to be complete by 2011) was approved in November 2007. The extension was opened on August 27, 2012, at the cost of $110 million. In the first year after the extension was completed, McKnight-Westwinds served average of 11,420 boardings per day. The station consists of a centre-loading, walk-on platform without stairs. It is very similar to Somerset-Bridlewood station and the Saddletowne station, which opened in 2012. McKnight-Westwinds is the first station on the Northeast line that is not located in the median of a roadway. Constructed along with the McKnight-Westwinds station, is the Oliver Bowen Maintenance Facility, located just South of the station. This facility is not only used for the maintenance of the fleet, but also has storage space for another 65 LRVs (light rail vehicles). This helps in the storage of the 22 additional LRVs that are planned to be purchased within the current 20-year capital plan. Previous to the 2007 extension, all NE LRVs had to come up from Anderson or Haysboro every morning. With the opening of OBMF, NE LRVs can stay on the NE line. Siemens U2s operating on the NW line provide service to Whitehorn or Saddletowne before going out of service for maintenance and then return to the NW line providing service from Whitehorn to Tuscany, before resuming regular operations.

Martindale is a CTrain light rail station in Martindale, Calgary, Alberta. It serves the Northeast Line (Route 202). It opened August 27, 2012.The station was constructed as part of a 2.9-kilometre extension of the Northeast line from McKnight–Westwinds station to Saddletowne station. It is located in a reserved right-of-way within its community, with the side-loading platforms to be staggered west and east of Martindale Boulevard. Due to its location in a residential area primarily serving local residents, there are no park-and-ride lots at the station nor a bus terminal, unlike most other CTrain stations in Calgary. Also, because of its location, CTrain speeds are reduced to 50 km/h (30 mph) in the general area. In its first year of service, Martindale served an average of 2,400 boardings per day. The opening of the Northeast extension was delayed by almost one year as the extension was originally planned to be open in late 2011.

Whitehorn station is a CTrain light rail station in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It serves the Northeast Line (Route 202). The station opened on April 27, 1985, as part of the original Northeast line terminus until another extension, McKnight-Westwinds first opened on December 17, 2007. The station is located in the median of 36 Street NE, immediately to the north of Whitehorn Drive. The station is 9.8 km from the City Hall Interlocking. The station serves the community of Whitehorn and is adjacent to Horizon Industrial Park. 824 parking spaces are also included at the station. A small bus loop is located on the west side of the station, and was a major hub for bus routes connecting Calgary's far northeastern communities to the CTrain prior to the 2007 extension to McKnight-Westwinds. As of November 2018, this bus loop is no longer in use. Pedestrian overpasses connect the station to both sides of 36 Street NE. Stairs, escalators, as well as an elevator provide access down to the center-loading platform. As of 2011, there is now a grade-level access at the South end of the platform as well. In 2005, the station registered an average transit of 17,400 boardings per weekday.Whitehorn station has undergone renovations to accommodate 4 car trains and add a second platform entrance at Whitehorn Drive NE as well as upgrades to the station interior. Construction began in the Summer of 2010 and was completed in August 2011.

Bay River College (formerly Evergreen College Calgary) is a Canadian private career college located in Calgary, Alberta. The college is a member of the Alberta Association of Career Colleges and the National Association of Career Colleges. Founded in 2014 as Evergreen College Calgary, the institute was rebranded as Bay River College in 2018. The college specializes in one- and two-year programs in technology, healthcare, social work and business, with a focus on workplace placement and “real work” experience.

Pacific Western Airlines Flight 501 was a regularly scheduled flight from Calgary to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The aircraft caught fire during takeoff on March 22, 1984. All 119 passengers and crew members survived, but five people suffered serious injuries while 22 others suffered minor injuries.

This airport is served by the Calgary International Airport Emergency Response Service for aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) protection. The region's petroleum and tourism industries (and its proximity to Banff National Park) have helped foster growth at the airport, which has nonstop flights to an array of destinations in North and Central America, Europe, and Asia. Calgary serves as the headquarters and primary hub for WestJet.Built in the late 1930s, the site has since grown to house four runways, two terminal buildings with five concourses for passengers, warehouses for cargo handling, and other infrastructure. The Calgary Airport Authority operates the property while paying rent to the federal government. Close to the airport is the Deerfoot Trail freeway for transport into the city, and public transit also serves the airport.

Heritage Christian Academy (HCA) is non-denominational evangelical Christian K-12 school located in Calgary, Alberta. The school opened as a private school in 1979 as Heritage Christian School and moved to its current location in 1998, changing its name to Heritage Christian Academy. Since 2006, it is publicly funded and operates as an "alternative school program based on Christian values" within the Palliser School District. The school's sports teams are known as the Hawks.The school courted controversy in 2014 by requiring students and staff to sign agreements vowing to abstain from "sexual immorality" including homosexuality. In 2015, however, HCA announced it would welcome a Gay Straight Alliance in the school.In 2020, it was given a score of 6.8/10 by the Fraser Institute and ranked 73rd out of 253 schools in the province.

The Hangar Flight Museum, formerly known as the Aero Space Museum of Calgary, is a museum located south of Calgary International Airport in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame, based in The Hangar Flight Museum in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, commemorates and honours those whose accomplishments in aviation contributed so much to Canada's development as a nation. Founded in 1973, the Hall of Fame has honoured thus far more than 200 aviators, engineers, technicians and administrators. Due to its size and geographical location, Canada has had to rely upon aviation much more than other countries. With so much territory unsuitable for surface travel, it was up to aviation to unite the country and bring the distant regions the opportunities for social and economic progress that would make them part of Canada. The unique combination of pioneering aviation and pioneering development of the country resulted in many outstanding examples of heroism, skill, tenacity, courage, wisdom, and luck, and many great stories to be told. The best of these stories are described in the Aviation Hall of Fame. Stories are told on four by eight foot panels with portraits, citations, photographs, and memorabilia. The Hall has an extensive collection of personal items and memorabilia related to inducted members, including such material as licenses, logbooks, uniforms, insignia, medals, trophies and awards, documents, correspondence, scrapbooks and photographs. The reference library contains approximately 2,500 books and over 12,000 periodicals related specifically to Canadian aviation. Items are loaned to other museums in Canada for exhibit purposes, and may be accessed by researchers and visitors, by appointment. The Hall of Fame also awards the Belt of Orion and the Order of Polaris each year at its annual induction dinner, to an organization notable for its contribution to Canadian aviation.

Castleridge is a residential neighbourhood in the northeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located east of the Calgary International Airport and is bounded by 64 Avenue NE to the north, Métis Trail to the west, McKnight Boulevard to the south and Falconridge Boulevard to the east. Castleridge was established in 1980 on land transferred from the Municipal District of Rocky View to the city in 1961. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 5 councillor.In 2008 the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community opened Baitun Nur, the largest mosque in Canada, in Castleridge.
