Edmonton-Castle Downs

Castle Downs is a residential area in the northwest portion of the City of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. The area was originally to be called Athabasca Downs, but when the city rejected the name, the developer used their second choice: Castle Downs. The names of the communities were based on European castles, and Castle Downs became the first area in Edmonton to be named in a thematic way. According to former Names Committee secretary Nancy Diettrich “The castles were chosen to recognize the different ethnic groups in the area.” It was originally established in 1971 through Edmonton City Council's adoption of the Castle Downs Outline Plan, and then extended northward in 1983 through the adoption of the Caste Downs Extension Area Structure Plan. Combined, these two plans guide the overall development of the area.

CFB Griesbach (Griesbach Barracks) was an army base that was located in the north end of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The site was named after Major-General William Antrobus Griesbach (1878–1945), a veteran of the Second Boer War, the First World War and the Second World War. Griesbach was also an Edmonton alderman and mayor, and served as a Member of Parliament and a Senator.

Griesbach is a developing community in the Castledowns area in northwest Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This mainly residential neighbourhood was formerly the site of a military base, part of CFB Griesbach. The land was transferred to Canada Lands Company to redevelop it. It remains a project of the Crown corporation.The neighbourhood is bounded on the north by 153 Avenue, on the east by 97 Street, on the south by 137 Avenue, and on the west by Castle Downs Road. Travel north along 97 Street provides access to the current CFB Edmonton. Travel south along 97 Street provides access to the downtown core and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. The area is expected to be accessible by the Metro Line LRT in the future. Shopping and services are available just east of the neighbourhood at Northgate Centre and North Town Centre. Both malls are located at the intersection of 137 Avenue and 97 Street at Griesbach's south east corner. Shoppers Drug Mart opened in November 2016 in Griesbach Village, located in the southeast corner of the neighbourhood. The community is represented by the Griesbach Community League.

The Edmonton Remand Centre (ERC) is a correctional facility in Goodridge Corners, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The facility is operated by the Ministry of Justice and Solicitor General of Alberta. The original correctional facility originally opened in 1979, after overcrowding and additional bed space required a second facility was proposed and completed in 2012. The new facility named the New Edmonton Remand Centre (NERC) opened on April 12, 2013, and is currently Canada's largest prison.

North Town Centre (formerly called North Town Mall) is a shopping centre located in the northern part of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.The mall underwent redevelopment completed in the summer of 2009 that included 270,000 sq ft (25,000 m2) of retail and office space and more than 900 parking stalls. Major tenants include Bed Bath & Beyond, Indigo Books and Music, London Drugs and T & T Supermarket. PetSmart opened in 2014.

Northgate Centre is a shopping mall located in the northern part of Edmonton, Alberta. It contains more than 70 stores and services. Its main anchor tenants are Marshalls, Safeway, and Walmart.

Edmonton-Decore is a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada. It is one of 87 districts mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting. It was most recently contested in the general election of 2019. The riding is located in north central Edmonton. It was created in the 2004 boundary redistribution out of a small part of Edmonton-Manning and most of Edmonton-Glengarry. The riding is named after Laurence Decore, former Leader of the Opposition and Mayor of Edmonton. Neighborhoods in this riding include: Kildare, Killarney, Northmount, Evansdale, Belle Rive, Mayliewan, Delwood, Glengarry & Balwin. The riding has been held by representatives of the Progressive Conservative, Liberal, and New Democratic parties since it was created. The current representative is New Democratic Party MLA Chris Nielsen, who was first elected in the 2015 general election.

On December 29, 2014, 53-year-old Phu Lam went on a killing spree in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He shot to death eight people, including two children, most of whom were his relatives. He then committed suicide at a Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant, VN Express, in which he had a professional interest that allowed after hours access; the restaurant was located in Fort Saskatchewan, just Northeast of Edmonton.

Goodridge Corners is a future neighbourhood in northwest Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Subdivision and development of the neighbourhood will be guided by the Goodridge Corners Neighbourhood Area Structure Plan (NASP), which was adopted by Edmonton City Council on February 24, 2014.It includes the Edmonton Remand Centre and the Edmonton Young Offender Centre on the east side of 127 Street, with the Edmonton Police Service's Northwest Campus and Divisional Station on the west side.It is located on the edge of Edmonton, bounded on the west by the city's boundary with St. Albert (142 Street), north by the city's boundary with Sturgeon County, east by the future realignment of 112 Street, and south by Anthony Henday Drive.
