Sherwood Park (electoral district)

Health First Strathcona was primary care centre that opened in Sherwood Park, Alberta in February 2004. The facility was opened to complement the regular care provided by family physicians, by providing after hours care for illness and urgent injuries. The centre closed on May 20, 2014, with its services being transferred to the Strathcona Community Hospital, which opened a day later.

Strathcona County is a specialized municipality in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region within Alberta, Canada between Edmonton and Elk Island National Park. It forms part of Census Division No. 11. Strathcona County is both urban and rural in nature. Approximately 73% of its population lives in Sherwood Park, which is an urban service area east of Edmonton remains an unincorporated hamlet. The balance lives beyond Sherwood Park within a rural service area.

Sherwood Park is a large hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Strathcona County that is recognized as an urban service area. It is located on traditional Treaty 6 territory, and adjacent to the City of Edmonton's eastern boundary. While long confined to generally south of Highway 16 (Yellowhead Trail), west of Highway 21 and north of Highway 630 (Wye Road), portions of Sherwood Park have expanded beyond Yellowhead Trail and Wye Road since the start of the 21st century. Anthony Henday Drive (Highway 216) separates Refinery Row, in a portion of the Sherwood Park Urban Service Area to the west, from the residential and commercial hamlet to the east.Sherwood Park was established in 1955 on farmland of the Smeltzer family, east of Edmonton. With a population of 72,017 in 2021, Sherwood Park has enough people to be Alberta's sixth largest city, but it retains the status of a hamlet, though the Government of Alberta officially recognizes the Sherwood Park Urban Service Area as equivalent to a city.

Sherwood Park Mall is a shopping mall located in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada. It has 97 stores and services including Safeway, Cineplex Cinemas, Designer Shoe Warehouse and Indigo Books & Music. It is the only enclosed mall in Strathcona County.It opened in 1972 under the name "Eastgate Mall", and cost $4 million to build. After owner Patrician Land Corporation went into receivership in 1984, Toronto developer Joseph Tenenbaum and Northern Telecom took over the property and renovated and doubled the size of the mall, and also added a new food court. The name change occurred with these changes. A second expansion of the mall occurred in 2000. An interior renovation was completed in 2012. In 2017 the mall had its end anchors switch sides, with the Safeway and Chapters move from the northern side of the mall to the south side. With that change the Shoppers Drug Mart was able to gain a mall entrance. A further expansion was completed in early 2020, changing the entrance of the former Safeway location to a regular mall entrance, along with the addition of a Dollarama. The Strathcona County Public Library was located in the mall from 1992 to 2010, when it moved into a new building.

Archbishop Jordan High School is an academic Catholic secondary school located in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada. It was founded in 1969 and is named after Archbishop Anthony Jordan. The school motto - scri crui crediti - is based on Jordan's motto; scio crui crediti and the school football team, the Scots, is named after Jordan's Scottish birthplace.The school was originally located on the corner of Brentwood Blvd and Oak Street. In 2013 a new larger building, accommodating up to 1,400 students, was built, and the old building was repurposed as a middle school. The new location is in Emerald Hill subdivision.The new larger building has allowed the school to offer a wider variety of course, including Cosmetics, Dance, foods courses and design classes. There are multiple sports teams students can join such as a football team, soccer team, rugby team, swimming team and more. Archbishop Jordan students participate in many competitive sports events, in particular soccer and handball. Other school events are: Dramatic productions, ABJ talent show, The Scots nominees, and the Ultimate Scavenger Hunt. As of 2017, the Emerald Hills Leisure Center opened just adjacent to the school, providing students with the opportunity to join swimming teams and do something in their spare time. ABJ is also home to a French Language Arts program that includes Math, Social studies and French classes. This provides students with a French background, or new students who wish to learn the basics of the language, the opportunity to do so with qualified teachers who care about their students.

Bev Facey Community High School, known as Bev Facey, is a public high school for grades 10–12 in Sherwood Park, Strathcona County, Alberta, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Elk Island Public Schools Regional Division No. 14.

The Strathcona Community Hospital is located in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, and provides 27 hospital beds with sufficient infrastructure capacity for 36 additional beds in the future. The hospital opened on May 21, 2014. The hospital development was an issue in the Strathcona County municipal election, 2010. The incumbent mayor, Cathy Olesen, was defeated by Linda Osinchuk who ran a campaign attacking contemporary plans for the hospital which involved no overnight beds. After the election, the Alberta government announced revised plans to add beds to the hospital. The project broke ground in 2007 and was expected to be completed in late 2009, but was put on hold due to the down turn in the economy. Construction was resumed in spring 2010 and was completed in 2014.

The Edmonton tornado of 1987, an event also known as Black Friday to Edmontonians, was a powerful and devastating tornado that ripped through the eastern parts of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and parts of neighbouring Strathcona County on the afternoon of Friday, July 31, 1987. It was one of seven other tornadoes in central Alberta the same day.The tornado peaked at F4 on the Fujita scale and remained on the ground for an hour, cutting a swath of destruction 30.8 km (19.1 mi) in length and up to 1.3 km (0.81 mi) wide in some places. It killed 27 people, and injured more than 300, destroyed more than 300 homes, and caused more than C$332.27 million (equivalent to $687 million in 2021) in property damage at four major disaster sites. The loss of life, injuries and destruction of property made it the worst natural disaster in Alberta's recent history and one of the worst in Canada's history. Weather forecasts issued during the morning and early afternoon of July 31, 1987 for Edmonton revealed a recognition by Environment Canada of a high potential for unusually severe thunderstorms that afternoon. Environment Canada responded swiftly upon receipt of the first report of a tornado touchdown from a resident of Leduc County which is immediately adjacent to Edmonton's southern boundary.
