Barossa Valley

Barossa was an electoral district of the House of Assembly in the colony (Australian state from 1901) of South Australia from 1857 to 1938 and again from 1956 to 1970. Barossa was also the name of an electoral district of the unicameral South Australian Legislative Council from 1851 until its abolition in 1857, George Fife Angas being the member.Despite Labor not even contesting the seat at the 1962 election, Barossa was one of two 1965 election gains that put Labor in government after decades of the Playmander in opposition. Labor's Molly Byrne retained Barossa at the 1968 election however the seat was abolished prior to the 1970 election. Byrne successfully moved to the new seat of Tea Tree Gully. The Barossa Valley region is currently a safe Liberal area and is located in the safe Liberal seat of Schubert.

North-Eastern District was an electoral district for the Legislative Council of South Australia from 1882 until 1912. It was then renamed to Midland District and continued until 1975 when the separate districts were abolished and the state elects members to the Legislative Council as a single district since that time. At its creation, the North-Eastern District elected six of the 24 members of the Legislative Council. Following the 1902 reduction in the size of the parliament, it elected 4 of 18 (20 after 1915) members. Its initial extent was the House of Assembly districts of Yatala, Gumeracha, Barossa, Wooroora, Light and Burra.The Midland district included the Assembly districts of Barossa, Wooroora and Wallaroo thus including Yorke Peninsula (which had been in the Northern District) but giving up the Burra area.

Turkey Flat is an Australian winery located in Tanunda, in the middle of South Australia's Barossa Valley wine-growing region. It is described by wine expert Oz Clarke as one of the "cult wines" of Australia. With more than 40% of its production dedicated to rosés, Turkey Flat has been considered a leader in the recent "rosé revival" trend of the early 21st century.The history of Turkey Flat wines began in 1847 when Johann Frederick August Fiedler planted Shiraz vines near Bethany Creek. The vines planted in 1847 are some of the oldest vines used for commercial wine production today and believed to be the world's oldest vines that have been authenticated. However, another Barossa winery, Langmeil, and one in the Goulburn Valley wine region, Tahbilk, also claim to have vines just as old, or even older than Turkey Flat.

Tanunda railway station is located on the Barossa Valley line. It served the town of Tanunda.

Bethany (postcode 5352) is a small village about 2 km south-east of Tanunda in the Barossa Valley. It was originally named Bethanien or sometimes Neu Schlesien – New Silesia, but was changed during the First World War in an attempt to remove all German place names from Australia. Similarly, the German-language school was forced to close by the state government in 1917, with 60 students at the time.Bethany was the first German settlement in the Barossa Valley area. It was settled in 1842, by Prussian immigrants who had leased land from George Fife Angas. The large portion of these initial settlers arrived in 1841, with Pastor Gotthard Fritzsche on the Skjold.

Tanunda is a town situated in the Barossa Valley region of South Australia, 70 kilometres north-east of the state capital, Adelaide. The town derives its name from an Aboriginal word meaning water hole. The town's population is approximately 4600. The postcode is 5352

Charles Melton Wines is an Australian winery based in Tanunda, within the Barossa Valley wine region of South Australia.

Stone Well is a settlement in South Australia. It is on the western side of the North Para River in the Barossa Valley. The current boundaries for the locality were established in May 1995 for the long-established name. The boundaries are the North Para River, Smyth Road, Stonewell Road and Seppeltsfield Road.

Krondorf is a locality in the Barossa Valley in South Australia. The name of the village is derived from the German for Crown's village.Prior to 1918, the name of the locality may have been Kronsdorf. In 1918, it was changed to Kabminye (an Australian Aboriginal word for stars) when many Australian placenames were changed to sound less German. An alternate name that was proposed instead of Kabminye was Blennerhassett, in honour of Lady Galway, wife of the Governor of South Australia and daughter of Sir Roland Blennerhassett. It was changed back to Krondorf in 1975.Krondorf (or Kronsdorf) was first settled in 1847 by Germans from nearby Bethany. The Zum Kripplein Christi Lutheran church was built in 1864 and closed in 1955. The church has been renovated by the owners of Charles Melton Wines, a local winery, to provide bed-and-breakfast accommodation.

Faith Lutheran College is a co-educational independent secondary school of the Lutheran Church of Australia located on 25 hectares (62 acres) of land on the northeastern side of Tanunda in South Australia.

Marananga is a locality in South Australia. It was known as Gnadenfrei before 1918 when names of "enemy origin" were changed to sound less German. The Gnadenfrei Lutheran Church was established, then a German school was established in 1879. The school's name was changed to Marananga in 1918, which is now also the name of the locality. Gnadenfrei means 'grace' and 'freedom'. Marananga means "My hands" in the Aboriginal language of the Overland Corner tribe.
