Klingle Road

Tregaron Estate, formerly known as The Causeway, is a country house and estate located in the Cleveland Park neighborhood of Northwest, Washington, D.C. The estate, built in 1912, was designed by architect Charles Adams Platt and landscape architect Ellen Biddle Shipman. The original owners, Alice and James Parmelee, lived at the estate from the time of its construction until 1940. From 1942 to 1958, it was occupied by Joseph E. Davies, who had served as United States ambassador to several countries, and his second wife, Post Cereal Company heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post. Today the estate is occupied by a campus of the Washington International School and the Tregaron Conservancy.

Woodley is a Federal-style hilltop house in Washington, D.C., constructed in 1801. It has served as the home to Grover Cleveland, Martin Van Buren, and Henry L. Stimson, and is now the home of the Maret School. When originally built, it was based on the Woodley Lodge in Reading, England. Coincidentally, given the mansion's original site, the word "Woodley" means "clearing in the woods." A Maret School-based organization called the Woodley Society was created in 1994 to study its history. Since then, it has become an association of students, faculty, and alumni, which has conducted research in a number of archives and libraries in the Greater Metropolitan Washington area and beyond. In 2008, the head of the group, historian Allerton Kilborne, published a book about Woodley. The group's podcast, Echoes of Woodley, is available on Spotify and showcases stories surrounding the mansion.

Maret School is a coeducational, K–12 independent school in Washington, D.C. It was founded by Marthe Maret in 1911 as a French primary school for girls and boys.

The Tregaron Conservancy refers to a 13 acre privately owned and managed historic woodland garden nature park in Northwest, Washington, D.C. and the nonprofit organization that manages it. It is an urban green space in Cleveland Park, bounded in the north by Macomb Stream and private residences, in the south and east by the Klingle Valley Trail which connects to Rock Creek Park, and to the west by the Washington International School and Twin Oaks estate. The conservancy is part of former Tregaron Estate, which was formerly part of the neighboring estate Twin Oaks. Landscape architect Ellen Biddle Shipman, designed a “wilderness garden, with streams and bridges and paths, and native plants and dappled sunshine" planted with specimens that mimic the natural surroundings. An heir to the estate recollected the grounds as "masses of daffodils in the spring and masses of azaleas and a little babbling brook and arched bridges under which I'm sure trolls lived." The cultural landscape report for Tregaron identified 6 distinct landscaping regions designed by Shipman: Cow Pasture & Oak - a meadow south of the Klingle stream, on the southeast corner of the conservancy Causeway & Pond Valley - containing Klingle stream running from Twin Oaks in the east into the lily pond and westward until it passes under the Klingle Valley Trail Drive and Meadows - the driveway running from Macomb to Klingle Valley roads and two adjacent meadows, a sloped one to the north and a flat one to the east Northeast Woodland, Stream and Trails - containing Macomb stream, forested hills, and paths connecting the Drive and Meadows to Causeway & Pond Valley Macomb Entry & Woodland Slope - wooded hill between the Macomb entrance and Hilltop, Gardens & House Hilltop, Gardens & House - on the west end of the property (Not part of the conservancy. Owned and managed by the Washington International School.) The conservancy hosts a diverse calendar of events, including tours of the conservancy, including ones focused on the site’s history, geology, birds, trees, as well as concerts, forrest bathing, Tai Chi, an Easter Egg hunt, and a discussion group for descendants of Holocaust survivors. The conservancy has formed volunteer partnerships with the Washington International School and a local gardening group.

Twin Oaks (Chinese: 雙橡園; pinyin: Shuāng Xiàng Yuán) is a 17-acre estate located in the Cleveland Park neighborhood in Washington, D.C., United States. It was the residence of nine Republic of China ambassadors to the United States before the United States broke off diplomatic ties to the Republic of China on Taiwan in 1979.

The Washington International School (abbreviated as WIS; Spanish: Colegio Internacional de Washington; French: École Internationale de Washington) is a private international school in Washington, DC. Established in 1966, WIS was the first school in the Washington area to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.The school has two campuses: the primary school (grades PK–5) in Georgetown, and the middle and upper school (grades 6–12) in Cleveland Park. The middle and upper school campus is located on the grounds of Marjorie Merriweather Post's Tregaron Estate. The Washington International School's upper school was ranked as the 73rd most challenging high school in the country and the most challenging high school in the Washington, D.C., area by the Washington Post's "Ranking America's most challenging high schools" article in 2016. Popular school ranking website Niche listed it as the eighth best private high school in the D.C. area.

The Embassy of Switzerland in Washington, D.C. (German: Schweizerische Botschaft in den Vereinigten Staaten, French: Ambassade de Suisse aux Etats-Unis d’Amérique, Italian: Ambasciata di Svizzera negli Stati Uniti d’America) is the diplomatic mission of the Swiss Confederation to the United States. It is located at 2900 Cathedral Avenue, Northwest, Washington, D.C., in the Woodley Park neighborhood.The area of the premises of the embassy and ambassador's residence were originally mostly unoccupied with the exception of Dumbarton House and Woodley Mansion. After various ownership transfers between American officials, the Swiss government purchased the land in 1941 for their legation. This was upgraded to an embassy in 1953. A new chancery was built in 1959, while the former chancery, known as Single Oak, become the residence of the ambassador before it was demolished and replaced in 2004 with a new, modernist house meant to conjure the grey-and-white scenery of the Alps. The current ambassador Jacques Pittelou started an ongoing project to revitalize the grounds and restore native plants and wildlife in 2020.The embassy also operates Consulates-General in Atlanta, Chicago, New York City and San Francisco.The Swiss Ambassador to the United States is Jacques Pitteloud.

On May 14, 2015, three members of the Savopoulos family—Savvas, Amy, and their son Philip—as well as their housekeeper, Veralicia Figueroa, were killed at the Savopoulos home in Washington, D.C. The victims were held hostage for 19 hours, starting on May 13. Ten-year-old Philip was tortured in order to coerce $40,000 in cash from the family. The perpetrator(s) restrained them with duct tape before killing them, then set the house on fire. They all sustained blunt force trauma, and Philip was also stabbed. On October 25, 2018, the defendant Daron Wint, a welder fired from a company owned by Savvas Savopoulos, was found guilty of 20 counts of kidnapping, extortion, and murder. He was sentenced to four consecutive life-without-release terms.

John Eaton Elementary School is an elementary school in the Cleveland Park neighborhood of Washington, DC. It is part of the District of Columbia Public School system. It opened as John Eaton Public School # 160 at 3301 Lowell Street NW on October 24, 1910. The interior followed the standard Adolf Cluss design long used by DC public schools, and the exterior of red brick and yellow brick trim was designed by architect Appleton P. Clark, Jr. It was named for recently deceased General John Eaton, a Union Army veteran who founded some 74 schools for freedmen and was later a college president. Within less than a decade, the school was overcrowded, prompting the construction of an addition in 1922 designed by Arthur B. Heaton. An auditorium/gymnasium was added in 1930.The Cleveland Park branch of the District of Columbia Public Library began as a single room in the Eaton School in 1910. Library services remained there, interrupted by World War I and II, until the construction of a library that opened in 1953.The school was one of 18 DC schools selected for integration following Brown v Board of Education, beginning with 10 African-American students in the fall of 1954.

The Kingle Valley Bridge, officially known as the Connecticut Avenue Bridge, is an Art Deco steel-arch bridge located near the National Zoological Park on Connecticut Avenue, Northwest in Washington, D.C. The bridge crosses Klingle Valley, running from Macomb Street to Devonshire Place and connecting the Cleveland Park and Woodley Park neighborhoods.The bridge replaced an earlier one built around 1890 by real estate developer and sitting U.S. Representative Francis Newlands, D-Nevada, as part of his effort to create the streetcar suburb of Chevy Chase, Maryland.The bridge was designed by architect Paul Philippe Cret and engineer Ralph Modjeski. It was built in 1931–1932. There is no direct connection between Connecticut Avenue and Klingle Road in the narrow valley below. The bridge features two historic lights on each corner. A major rehabilitation of the bridge that began in 2005 included restored ornamental lanterns, refurbished masonry, and additional street lights. The restoration project was completed in 2008.On May 21, 2004, the bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is a contributing property to the Cleveland Park Historic District.

The Cleveland Park Neighborhood Library is a branch of the District of Columbia Public Library in the Cleveland Park neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It is located at 3310 Connecticut Avenue NW. A library building opened on the site in 1953 and was replaced in 2018 by a larger facility that was built at a cost of $19.7 million. The new library's design garnered praise and plaudits; DCist described it as "strikingly stylish" and it won the 2019 Urban Catalyst award from the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

The Cathedral Mansions Apartment Buildings are historic structures located at 2900, 3000, and 3100 Connecticut Avenue NW in the Woodley Park neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Constructed from 1922 to 1924, architect Eugene Waggaman designed the Connecticut Avenue apartment buildings in the Classical Revival style for developer Harry Wardman. Architect Mihran Mesrobian's initials appear on a drawing for one of the buildings.The buildings were added to the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites on May 17, 1989, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 9, 1994.
