Sunridge Ski Area is a ski area located off of 17 Street in Edmonton, Alberta. It is built on the bank of the North Saskatchewan River.

Strathcona Science Provincial Park is a provincial park in Alberta, Canada, located between Edmonton and Sherwood Park, south of the Yellowhead Highway and west of Anthony Henday Drive. The park is situated in the North Saskatchewan River valley, on both banks of the river, at an elevation of 625 m (2,051 ft) and has a surface of 2.9 km2 (1.1 sq mi). It was established on December 12, 1979 and is maintained by Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation. This site was for thousands of years the site of an annual aboriginal camp, as it was located close enough to the river for transportation and trade and the bluffs of the river valley provided excellent bison-hunting opportunities. The park was established to preserve the site from encroaching industrial development. It was the site of archeological excavations in 1978 to 1980.The park contains several abandoned interpretive buildings opened by the Alberta government in 1980 but now shuttered. Remnants of the park's history as a public science center include tiled triangular obelisks, a boardwalk through the archaeological area, and a few interpretive plaques. The area is safe but overgrown.

Rundle Park is a municipal park in Edmonton, Canada, and a major park in the North Saskatchewan River Valley parks system. The park overlooks the North Saskatchewan River, and there is a pedestrian bridge that connects Gold Bar Park and Rundle Park together. The park features paved paths, sport amenities, and numerous ponds. The Town of Beverly amalgamated with Edmonton in 1961, and portions of Rundle Park were formerly the Town of Beverly’s garbage dump.

The Edmonton tornado of 1987, an event also known as Black Friday to Edmontonians, was a powerful and devastating tornado that ripped through the eastern parts of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and parts of neighbouring Strathcona County on the afternoon of Friday, July 31, 1987. It was one of seven other tornadoes in central Alberta the same day.The tornado peaked at F4 on the Fujita scale and remained on the ground for an hour, cutting a swath of destruction 30.8 km (19.1 mi) in length and up to 1.3 km (0.81 mi) wide in some places. It killed 27 people, and injured more than 300, destroyed more than 300 homes, and caused more than C$332.27 million (equivalent to $687 million in 2021) in property damage at four major disaster sites. The loss of life, injuries and destruction of property made it the worst natural disaster in Alberta's recent history and one of the worst in Canada's history. Weather forecasts issued during the morning and early afternoon of July 31, 1987 for Edmonton revealed a recognition by Environment Canada of a high potential for unusually severe thunderstorms that afternoon. Environment Canada responded swiftly upon receipt of the first report of a tornado touchdown from a resident of Leduc County which is immediately adjacent to Edmonton's southern boundary.

The electoral district covers the neighbourhoods of Beverly, Belmont Park and Clareview Town Centre. It was created in 1996, and was first contested in the 1997 election. It was last contested in the 2019 election, and has been held by Deron Bilous of the NDP since 2012.

The Strathcona Refinery is an oil refinery located in Strathcona County adjacent to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, owned by Imperial Oil. The refinery provides oil products, primarily gasoline, aviation fuel, diesel, lubricating oils, petroleum waxes, heavy fuel oil and asphalts.The refinery was built in 1975 and replaced older refineries in Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, and Calgary.A fire occurred at the refinery in 2007 that resulted it in temporarily operating at reduced capacity.

Refinery Row is the unofficial name given to the concentration of oil refineries in west Sherwood Park, Strathcona County, Alberta, just east of the city of Edmonton. The area is roughly bounded on the south by the Sherwood Park Freeway (Highway 100), on the north by the North Saskatchewan River and Yellowhead Trail (Highway 16), on the east by Anthony Henday Drive (Highway 216), and on the west by 50 Street. Other major roads that run through the area include: 34 Street, 17 Street NW, and 101 Avenue/Baseline Road. The district is dominated by two refineries: the Strathcona Refinery (Imperial Oil), can process 187,000 barrels (29,700 m3) of crude oil per day; and the Suncor Edmonton Refinery (Suncor Energy), which can process 135,000 barrels per day (21,500 m3/d)The other main refineries in the Edmonton area are also located in Strathcona County, in a separate concentration around Scotford, Alberta. Refinery Row suffered F4 damage from the Edmonton Tornado on July 31, 1987.

Clareview station is the northern terminus of the Edmonton Light Rail Transit.
