William L. Whitehurst Field

Hardeman County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,462. Its county seat is Bolivar.

Bolivar is a city in and the county seat of Hardeman County, Tennessee, United States. The town was named for South American revolutionary leader Simón Bolívar. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 5,417. Bolivar is served by the county-owned William L. Whitehurst Field airport.

The Western State Hospital Historic District is a 37 acres (15 ha) historic district in Bolivar, Tennessee which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. It then included seven contributing buildings and four non-contributing ones. It has also been known as the Western State Hospital for the Insane at Bolivar, as the Western State Psychiatric Hospital, and presently operates as the Western Mental Health Institute, serving 24 counties in West Tennessee. Its 1889 building was designed by architect Harry Peake McDonald and his brothers Kenneth and Donald. This firm had previously designed the Southwestern Lunatic Asylum in Marion, Virginia. The McDonalds based the design on the Kirkbride Plan. Its 1932 building known as the Psychopathic Hospital, later known as the Polk Building, was designed by architect Wyatt C. Hedrick of Memphis.

The Bills-McNeal Historic District is a 30 acres (12 ha) historic district in Bolivar, Tennessee which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It then included nine contributing buildings and one contributing site, on portions of Lafayette, McNeal, Bills, Union, Lauderdale and Washington Streets. It includes: McNeal House (1856) designed by architect Samuel Sloan at Bills and Union Street, asserted to be "the finest Italianate house in West Tennessee and among the most outstanding in the state." Two-story brick building with square cupola. Hudson-Wood-Fish House (1835), 322 South Washington Street. Federal with Greek Revival-style portico St. James Episcopal Church (1869), West Lafayette Street. St. James Episcopal Chapel (1870), West McNeal Street. Ingram House, "The Columns" (1860), 303 West McNeal Street. Greek Revival, remodeled in 1909 to add Colonial Revival portico and other Wright-Smith House (1867), West McNeal Street. Bills House, "The Pillars" (c.1831), 322 South Washington Street Mark House "Wrens Nest" (c.1860), 308 Bills Street.

The Bolivar Court Square Historic District in Bolivar, Tennessee is a 14 acres (5.7 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It then included 28 contributing buildings and a contributing object (a monument). It also includes 12 non-contributing buildings. It is at U.S. Route 64 and State Route 125 Architectural firm Willis, Sloan & Trigg contracted for the courthouse and Spires Boling is credited with the design. Architecture includes Classical Revival, Greek Revival, and Italianate.

The North Main Street Historic District in Bolivar, Tennessee is a 35 acres (14 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It then included 25 contributing buildings and 11 non-contributing ones. It includes portions of N. Main, Sycamore, Jefferson, Washing, and Water Streets. Notable buildings include: Baker House (c.1849), also known as "Mansion House", at 517 North Main Street, is a Greek Revival house with a two-story portico having paired columns with volutes (see photo #1 in accompanying photos).

The United Sons and Daughters of Charity Lodge Hall in Bolivar, Tennessee was built in c.1928 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. It is an "unassuming" wood-frame building on brick piers, with a hipped roof. The building was primarily used for religious worship services and for other community purposes. It is a surviving artifact of the United Sons and Daughters of Charity, a local self-help and benevolent organization formed in 1873 by a group of African American men in Bolivar.

Hatchie River Ferry, also known as Miller's Ferry and as Statler's Ferry, on the Hatchie River near Bolivar, Tennessee, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. The ferry crossing was used by a party of Cherokee Nation persons emigrating to Oklahoma, led by John Adair Bell, who was one of the signers of the Treaty of New Echota. The group crossed the Hatchie River here on November 16–17, 1838. In 1923 a map shows that there was a sawmill and Statler's Bridge at the crossing. The listed property is 3.6 acres (1.5 ha) in area and includes parts of three real estate parcels. It includes 1,400 feet (430 m) of the original roadbed of the historic Savannah-Bolivar Road approaching the Hatchie River on the east side, plus ferry landing area on both east and west banks of the road, and concrete bridge abutments in the river which date from the early 1900s. The site is deemed significant for its association with the Trail of Tears.

WOJG (94.7 FM, "The Word and The Music") is a radio station broadcasting a gospel music format. Licensed to Bolivar, Tennessee, United States, the station is currently owned by Shaw's Broadcasting Company through licensees Johnny W. Shaw & Opal J. Shaw.

WMOD (96.7 FM, "Real Country") is a radio station broadcasting a country music format. Licensed to Bolivar, Tennessee, United States, the station is currently owned by WMOD, Inc. and features programming from Westwood One. WMOD broadcasts more than 150 sporting events involving Hardeman County teams each year, doing Bolivar Central High School and Middleton High School athletics, as well as middle school sports, and Dixie Youth and Dizzy Dean baseball. WMOD is live each day at noon for County Journal Live, which is a variety show with swap shop and a guest.
