Pātaka Art + Museum is a municipal museum and art gallery of Porirua City, New Zealand. Te Marae o Te Umu Kai o Hau is the name of the building where Pātaka Museum + Art is located and opened in 1998. It also houses the Porirua City Library, Cafe Kaizen and a Japanese Garden.

Te Rauparaha Arena is a multi-purpose indoor sports and entertainment centre, with pools, dash swim school, a fitness centre and indoor sports stadium and venues, in Porirua, New Zealand. The centre, which cost NZ$17.5 million to construct, was officially opened on 21 November 2008.The main stadium has a maximum capacity of 3,000, while a secondary stadium can hold another 500 people. The venue was named by the Ngāti Toa iwi after one of their most famous leaders, Te Rauparaha.

Takapūwāhia, also known as Porirua Pa, was originally built on one of the oldest settlements in the Porirua basin — Te Urukahika, a small hamlet located on the western shore of Porirua harbour in the lower North Island of New Zealand. In the 1850s Takapūwāhia had a population of over 250 Māori. As the crown acquired more iwi land for Pakeha settlement the wider iwi was invited to settle in Porirua by Ngati Maunu, the senior hapū of Ngāti Toa. Families came from Pukerua Bay and Taupo Pa, now known as Plimmerton. In 1889 the settlement moved from Te Urukahika (now called Elsdon) to its current location, and became the primary home to Ngāti Toa Rangatira. In 1910 a school was built next to the wharenui (meeting house).The settlement includes Takapūwāhia Marae, a marae (tribal meeting ground) of Ngāti Toa Rangatira. The marae includes a wharenui, known as Toa Rangatira.

Elsdon is a suburb of the New Zealand city of Porirua located immediately to the west to of the city's CBD. The area was named after Elsdon Best, a historian who studied archaeological sites in the area. Its industrial area, the largest in the city, is known for housing the factory used by New Zealand chocolate company Whittaker's; constructed in 1969, it remains the company's sole production site to this day.

Aotea is a suburb of Porirua. It covers an area of 2.68 km², including a land area of 2.68 km². The area is entirely inland, but many homes have coastal views.The suburb has two children's playgrounds and a retirement home.

Porirua Central is the central business district and central suburb of Porirua, in the Wellington region of New Zealand's North Island.

Porirua railway station is an important intermediate station in New Zealand on the Kapiti Line from Wellington and is part of Wellington's Metlink suburban rail network operated by Transdev Wellington. The island platform urban railway station is on a double track section of the North Island Main Trunk which was opened in 1885 as a single main line on the alignment of today's Down (southbound) line. There is subway access to Porirua city centre and bus stops serving the Porirua area.

Gear Homestead, named Okowai ('muddy water') by its owner James Gear, is a historic building in Porirua, New Zealand. It was listed by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (since renamed to Heritage New Zealand) as a Category 2 historic place in 1983. Gear Homestead is significant because of its association with James Gear, a butcher who founded the Gear Meat Preserving and Freezing Company. The company was one of the largest employers in Wellington and also played a large part in the development of Petone.The building was designed by Robert Edwards and built in 1887 by William Hartley. It was constructed of matai, totara and kauri, and the wall on the south side is about 30 cm thick and filled with sawdust for insulation against southerly winds. When James Gear's health declined and he was confined to a wheelchair, he had a cottage built behind the house, with a ramp connecting it to the main house. He lived in the cottage with a nurse and manservant, separate from his family. The house remained in the ownership of the Gear family until 1967, and in 1975 it was bought by Poriurua City Council.In the early to mid 1980s, the historic building was used as a major location in Peter Jackson's first film, Bad Taste. The building was home to the Iredale and Tiegan family in the 1995 children’s TV series Mirror, Mirror (TV series), and in 2007 it was used as a location in the horror movie When Night Falls.The homestead is now a cafe/bar/restaurant and is open 7 days a week.

Porirua, (Māori: Pari-ā-Rua) a city in the Wellington Region of the North Island of New Zealand, is one of the four cities that constitute the Wellington metropolitan area. The name 'Porirua' is a corruption of 'Pari-rua', meaning "the tide sweeping up both reaches". It almost completely surrounds Porirua Harbour at the southern end of the Kāpiti Coast. As of June 2023, Porirua had a population of 60,900.

Onepoto is a locality of Porirua City in New Zealand. It is bounded to the north by Whitireia Park, a large park which is slowly being returned to native bush, and to the east by the Porirua Harbour. Onepoto covers a land area of 2.24 km², including an area of coast.The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage translates Onepoto as "short beach".
