Guttenberg Public School District

Guttenberg ( GUT-ən-burg) is a town in the northern part of Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the town's population was 11,176. In the 2010 Census, it was the most densely populated incorporated municipality in the United States, as well as one of the most densely populated municipalities worldwide, with 57,116 people per square mile (22,052/km2) of land area. Only four blocks wide, Guttenberg has been variously ranked as the ninth-smallest municipality in the state (based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau) or as the state's seventh-smallest municipality (based on data from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection).The population increased by 369 (+3.4%) from the 10,807 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 2,539 (+30.7%) from the 8,268 counted in the 1990 Census. As of the 2010 Census, almost one-fifth of the town's population resides in the Galaxy Towers, a trio of residential skyscrapers overlooking the Hudson River.The current population growth and density in Guttenberg represents a significant change since 1983, when it was described by The New York Times, as "an old community of two-story row houses, small stores and light industry."

WOR TV Tower was a 760-foot-tall (230-meter) lattice tower used for FM- and TV-broadcasting at North Bergen, New Jersey, USA. The 420-ton tower was built in 1949. At the time of its construction, it was the tenth-tallest man-made structure in the world. At the beginning of 1953, the TV transmissions were moved to Empire State Building, but the tower remained. On November 8, 1956, the top of the tower was hit by a small aircraft, which knocked off the top and killed six people. The tower was later dismantled.

Woodcliff is a neighborhood in northeastern North Bergen, New Jersey. The center of area is a large Hudson County park known as North Hudson Park, which refers to the collective name of the municipalities in northern part of the county, and is officially named for James J. Braddock, an American boxer who was a resident the township. The boomerang-shaped section north of the park is bordered by the southeastern Bergen County towns of Cliffside Park and Fairview, is characterized by a garden apartment complex called Woodcliff Gardens. The neighborhood south of the park is bordered by Boulevard East and Bergenline Avenue, across from which is North Bergen Public Library and the Racetrack Section. It southern border is shared with the borough of Guttenberg. High density housing includes single and multi-family dwellings as well as low-rise and high-rise apartment buildings. The section was developed early 1900s by the Woodcliff Land Improvement Company, organized by Hamilton V. Meeks in 1891. It is sometimes occasionally still called Hudson Heights. Located atop the Hudson Palisades, much of Woodcliff overlooks the Hudson River and the neighborhoods along its banks, Shadyside and Bulls Ferry, to which it is connected by a colonial era road along the face of the cliff. The Woodcliff Treatment Plant is located at the foot of the escarpment.Woodcliff is served by New Jersey Transit local and Manhattan-bound buses, as well numerous privately operated carritos, dollar vans and mini-buses originating at Nungesser's, a major intersection.

Union Township was a township that existed in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. The township existed from 1861 to 1898. Union Township ("Town of Union") was incorporated as a township by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 28, 1861, from portions of North Bergen Township.Portions of the township were taken on March 29, 1864, to form the town Union Hill, which became part of Union City in 1925. A portion of Union Township was annexed by Guttenberg in 1878.On July 5, 1898, the residents of the remaining portions of Union Township passed a referendum to incorporate the town of West New York, which became effective as of July 8, 1898; With the creation of West New York, Union Township was dissolved.Two other municipalities in New Jersey are currently named Union Township. One is in Hunterdon County and the other is in Union County.

West New York School District is a public school district serving students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade in West New York, in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. The district is one of 31 former Abbott districts statewide that were established pursuant to the decision by the New Jersey Supreme Court in Abbott v. Burke which are now referred to as "SDA Districts" based on the requirement for the state to cover all costs for school building and renovation projects in these districts under the supervision of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority. As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprised of nine schools, had an enrollment of 8,498 students and 595.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 14.3:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "A", the lowest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.

North Bergen High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school, serving students in ninth through twelfth grade from North Bergen, in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States, operating as part of the North Bergen School District. The school is the district's only high school, and its student body includes residents of both North Bergen and Guttenberg. The school offers various clubs and activities, academic programs, and sports. In 2019, the school play attracted national attention, while the athletics department holds several state titles in multiple sports.

Galaxy Towers, also known as the Galaxy Towers Condominium Association or GTCA, are a trio of 415 feet (126 m) octagonal towers located at 7000 Kennedy Boulevard East in the southeastern corner of Guttenberg, New Jersey, United States, overlooking the Hudson River. The towers were built in 1976 by a partnership of Norman Belfer, a Long Island developer who owned another high-rise in Guttenberg, and the Prudential Insurance Company of America. It began as a rental apartment complex, but converted to condominiums in 1980. It contains a mixture of condominiums, retail, and office space, including 1,075 apartments. The Brutalist style complex was designed by Gruzen & Partners and developed by Prudential Insurance Company. As of the 2010 Census, one-fifth of Guttenberg's residents live in the Galaxy.

Boulevard East (officially John F. Kennedy Boulevard East, and sometimes referred to as JFK Boulevard East) is a two-way, mostly two lane, scenic county road in the North Hudson, New Jersey municipalities of Weehawken, West New York, Guttenberg and North Bergen. Apart from small sections at either end, the road runs along the crest of the Hudson Palisades, affording it views of the Hudson River and the New York City skyline. Developed at the turn of the 20th century, the residential road is characterized by an eclectic mix of 20th-century architecture, including private homes as well as mid and high-rise apartment buildings, mostly on its western side, with a promenade and parks along its eastern side. It is also the setting for Edward Hopper's 1934 painting East Wind Over Weehawken, which is considered one of his best works.

The New York Tunnel Extension (also New York Improvement and Tunnel Extension) is a combination of railroad tunnels and approaches from New Jersey and Long Island to Pennsylvania Station in Midtown Manhattan. It was built by Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) at the beginning of the 20th century to improve railroad access throughout the greater New York City area, and lead to the line's then-new passenger facility, Pennsylvania Station.

The Battle of Bull's Ferry on 20 and 21 July 1780 saw two American brigades under Brigadier General Anthony Wayne attack a party of Loyalist Americans led by Thomas Ward. The Loyalists successfully defended a blockhouse against an ineffective bombardment by four American artillery pieces and a failed attempt to storm the position by Wayne's infantry. During the action, American light dragoons under Major Light Horse Harry Lee drove off a large number of cattle that were kept in the area for the use of the British army in New York City. The clash inspired British Major John André to write a satirical ballad entitled The Cow Chace. The skirmish was fought at Bulls Ferry, New Jersey in the Northern theater of the American Revolutionary War after Saratoga. At this stage of the conflict only raids and minor actions occurred in the north.

The Excelsior Engine Co. No. 2 Firehouse is a historic former fire station built in 1897 and located at 6106 Polk Street in the town of West New York in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. It was later known as the Exempt Firemen Association Headquarters. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 12, 2022, for its significance in architecture and social history. It was listed in 2017 as one of the state's 10 most endangered historic places by Preservation New Jersey.
