Lomé (UK: LOH-may, US: loh-MAY) is the capital and largest city of Togo. It has an urban population of 837,437 while there were 2,188,376 permanent residents in its metropolitan area as of the 2022 census. Located on the Gulf of Guinea at the southwest corner of the country, with its entire western border along the easternmost point of Ghana's Volta Region, Lomé is the country's administrative and industrial center, which includes an oil refinery. It is also the country's chief port, from where it exports coffee, cocoa, copra, and oil palm kernels. Its city limits extends to the border with Ghana, located a few hundred meters west of the city center, to the Ghanaian city of Aflao and the South Ketu district where the city is situated, had 160,756 inhabitants in 2010. The cross-border agglomeration of which Lomé is the centre, has about 2 million inhabitants as of 2020.

The 1967 Togolese coup d'état was a bloodless military coup that occurred in the West African country of Togo on 13 January 1967. The leader of the coup, Lieutenant Colonel Étienne Eyadéma (later General Gnassingbé Eyadéma) ousted Togo's second President, Nicolas Grunitzky, whom he essentially brought to power following the 1963 coup d'état. Following the coup, political parties were banned, and all constitutional processes were suspended. Colonel Kléber Dadjo was named interim President of Togo (as Chairman of the National Reconciliation Committee), a position that he held until 14 April 1967, when Eyadéma assumed the presidency.Eyadéma went on to rule the country until his death on 5 February 2005.

The 1986 Togolese coup d'état attempt was a coup attempt that occurred in the West African country of Togo on 23 September 1986. The coup attempt consisted of a group of some 70 armed dissidents crossed into capital Lomé from Ghana in an unsuccessful attempt to overthrow the government of President General Gnassingbé Eyadéma.

The 1963 Togolese coup d'état was a military coup that occurred in the West African country of Togo on 13 January 1963. The coup leaders — notably Emmanuel Bodjollé, Étienne Eyadéma (later Gnassingbé Eyadéma) and Kléber Dadjo — took over government buildings, arrested most of the cabinet, and assassinated Togo's first president, Sylvanus Olympio, outside the American embassy in Lomé. The coup leaders quickly brought Nicolas Grunitzky and Antoine Meatchi, both of whom were exiled political opponents of Olympio, together to form a new government. While the government of Ghana and its president Kwame Nkrumah were implicated in the coup and assassination of Olympio, the investigation was never completed, and the international outcry eventually died down. The event was important as the first coup d'état in the French and British colonies of Africa that achieved independence in the 1950s and 1960s, and Olympio is remembered as one of the first heads of state to be assassinated during a military coup in Africa.

The Lomé Grand Market (French: Grand marché de Lomé) is a public market in Lomé, the capital of Togo. It is located near the famous Sacred Heart Cathedral of Lomé, at the heart of the city. It occupies an entire city block and consists of three sections: Atipoji, Asigame and Assivito. Most vendors are women and children, and local performers can often be found playing live music at the market. A wide selection of spices are sold at the market, including cinnamon sticks, clove, nutmeg, and star anise. In 2017, the Togolese government began an 18 million euro project to build a modern urban development at the market's location, tentatively titled Adawlato Grand Market, after the neighbourhood in which it will be located in.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lomé (Latin: Lomen(sis)) is the Metropolitan See for the ecclesiastical province of Lomé in Togo.

The Sacred Heart Cathedral (French: Cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur de Lomé) It is the mother of the Archdiocese of Lome (since September 14, 1955), one of the seven Catholic church districts of the African Republic of Togo. Built in just over a year (April 1901 to September 1902) by the German colonial authorities, then it became one of the iconic buildings of the new capital of Togo.

Togo National Museum (French: Musée national du Togo) is the national museum of Togo. It is located in the capital of Lomé. Founded in 1975, it presents cultural and historical exhibits.The museum showcases artifacts dating back to thousands of years, including musical instruments such as the Xalam, baskets decorated with shells and calabashes used to preserve food and water, clay pots, wood carvings, clothes, metalwork, and tobacco pipes.

The Monument de L'Independance was built as a tribute to Togo’s independence from France on April 27, 1960. The structure is composed of a human silhouette carved within it and surrounded by promenades, palm trees, manicured lawns, fountains and a black gold iron fence.

The Hôtel 2 Février is a 102m, 36-story hotel in Lomé, Togo on Place De L'Indépendance street, opened in 1980. It is the tallest building in Togo. Because it is the only high-rise in Lomé (and in Togo), it is visible from just about anywhere in the city. The hotel was constructed at a cost of 35 billion West African CFA francs and opened in June 1980 by Togolese President Gnassingbé Eyadéma. It was named for the date, February 2, 1974, on which he nationalized the country's phosphate mines, following his survival of the 1974 Togo presidential C-47 crash. The hotel was originally managed by Sofitel as Hotel Sofitel du 2 Février The hotel closed in 2000 and in February of that year, the government of Togo was loaned $20 million to renovate the property by the Libyan African Investment Company (LAICO). On May 8, 2002, Malta-based Corinthia Hotels International was signed to manage the property after its intended renovation. The shuttered hotel was sold outright to LAICO in 2006, in exchange for forgiveness of the loan and a promise to renovate the hotel. When LAICO had not carried out the renovations after 8 years, the hotel was nationalized by the Togolese government on November 10, 2014 and renovations were begun. While the hotel was being renovated, the Carlson Rezidor group assumed management on February 26, 2015. The hotel reopened in April 2016 as the Radisson Blu Hotel du 2 Février. Radisson ceased managing the hotel in August 2017 and it became the Hotel 2 Février. On June 27, 2018, it was announced that the hotel would be managed by Emaar Hospitality, a division of UAE-based Emaar Properties. The hotel was to be operated under their Address Hotels brand as Address Hotel 2 Février Lomé Togo. This never occurred and as of 2023 the hotel remains independently operated.
