Gawsworth Old Rectory

St James' Church is in the village of Gawsworth, Cheshire, England, and is sited near Gawsworth Hall. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Macclesfield and the deanery of Macclesfield. Clifton-Taylor includes it in his list of 'best' English parish churches. The authors of the Buildings of England series describe the church as being "pretty, but odd".

Gawsworth Old Hall is a Grade I listed country house in the village of Gawsworth, Cheshire, England. It is a timber-framed house in the Cheshire black-and-white style. The present house was built between 1480 and 1600, replacing an earlier Norman house. It was probably built as a courtyard house enclosing a quadrangle, but much of it has been demolished, leaving the house with a U-shaped plan. Notable residents have included Mary Fitton, perhaps the "Dark Lady" of Shakespeare's sonnets, and Samuel "Maggoty" Johnson, a playwright described as the last professional jester in England, whose grave is nearby in Maggoty Wood, a small National Trust woodland. In 1712 a dispute about the ownership of the Gawsworth estate culminated in a celebrated duel, in which both the combatants were killed. The hall is surrounded by formal gardens and parkland, which once comprised an Elizabethan pleasure garden and, possibly, a tilting ground for jousting. The grounds are listed Grade II*, and contain four Grade II listed buildings, including the gatehouse, gatepiers, and garden walls. The hall and grounds are open to the public at advertised times, and events are organised. During the summer months a series of concerts and other entertainment is arranged in an open-air theatre near the hall.

Gawsworth New Hall is a country house in the village of Gawsworth, Cheshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.The house was begun by Lord Mohun in 1707 but abandoned after he was killed in a duel with the Duke of Hamilton in 1712. Later additions and alterations were made including those to the designs of Sir Hubert Worthington in 1914. Late-19th-century residents of the house included William Taylor Birchenough, a Macclesfield silk manufacturer and partner in the Macclesfield firm John Birchenough & Son, who was the brother of Sir Henry Birchenough. W.T. Birchenough lived in the house with his wife Jane Birchenough, daughter of Richard Peacock MP and their four children. His youngest son, also William Taylor Birchenough, was a pioneering aviator and test pilot. The house is built in red brick with a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and attic with an E-shaped plan. The garden front has 16 bays. In the 1960s the hall was given over to Cheshire County Council and became a home for elderly women who were either physically, or mentally disabled. There was a large staff of carers, chefs, domestics and gardeners who looked after the residents and the grounds. In the 1980s it also took in elderly men too. A lot of the local people who lived in Gawsworth village worked at the hall. In the mid-1980s the hall was closed and put up for sale, and after being sold the hall was turned into apartments.

The Harrington Arms is in Church Lane, Gawsworth, Cheshire, England, and is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. It is included in the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.It was built in the late 17th/early 18th century with 19th-century alterations and additions. As of 2022, it is owned by Robinsons Brewery.

Warren is the traditional name for the largest settlement in the civil parish of Gawsworth in Cheshire, England. It is situated just to the north west of Gawsworth church and hall, and approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) south of the market town of Macclesfield. Nowadays the name is seldom used, the inhabitants usually saying that they live in Gawsworth.

Gawsworth is a civil parish and village in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 1,705. It is one of the eight ancient parishes of Macclesfield Hundred. Twenty acres of the civil parish were transferred to Macclesfield civil parish in 1936. The country houses Gawsworth Old Hall, Gawsworth New Hall and Gawsworth Old Rectory are in the village. The authors of the Cheshire volume of the Buildings of England series state: There is nothing in Cheshire to compare with the loveliness of Gawsworth: three great houses and a distinguished church set around a descending string of pools, all within an enigmatic large-scale formal landscape. A wood near the village known as Maggotty Wood is the burial place of the eighteenth-century dramatist Samuel "Maggotty" Johnson. His ghost is reputed to haunt the wood.

North Rode Manor is a country house standing to the north of the village of North Rode, Cheshire, England. The house was built between 1838 and 1840 for John Smith Daintry, a banker and silk manufacturer from Macclesfield, on the site of an earlier house that had been destroyed by fire. Alterations have been carried out since it was originally built. The house is constructed in stuccoed brick with ashlar dressings and slate roofs. It is in two storeys. The entrance front has five bays, the two on the left protruding forwards. The entrance porch dates from the 19th-century and is supported by paired Tuscan columns. To the right of this is a canted bay window. On the right side of the house is another canted bay window, and on the left side is a tower with a pyramidal roof. The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. The authors of the Buildings of England series describe it a "sprawling white house in Regency Gothic".The present porch replaces the one originally on the house that has been moved and is now a free-standing folly in the garden. This is listed at Grade II. Also listed at Grade II are the former stables, now partly converted into a house.

Danes Moss Nature Reserve is a 13.4-hectare (33-acre) nature reserve south of Macclesfield, Cheshire, England. A Site of Special Scientific Interest, it is managed by the Cheshire Wildlife Trust. Danes Moss is a lowland raised bog, a rare and threatened habitat in the United Kingdom. The SSSI citation describes it as "the largest example in Cheshire of a cut-over raised mire...a valuable example of a habitat now rare in lowland England", noting that the peat is up to 5 metres (16 ft) deep, a substantial thickness. Seven species of Sphagnum moss are found here. Locally uncommon plants include round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia), marsh cinquefoil (Potentilla palustris), bottle sedge (Carex rostrata), common lousewort (Pedicularis sylvatica) and fen bedstraw (Galium uliginosum) and the nationally rare Labrador-tea (Rhododendron tomentosum).The reserve is also known for its insects. Eleven species of dragonflies and damselflies have been recorded, including the black darter (Sympetrum danae) (Britain's smallest dragonfly) and the four-spotted chaser (Libellula quadrimaculata). They are joined by 19 species of butterfly, including the green hairstreak (Callophrys rubi).

North Rode is a small village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. According to the 2001 census, the population of the entire civil parish was 178.

Its benefice is combined with those of St Mary the Virgin, Bosley, St Saviour, Wildboarclough, and St Michael, Wincle. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. The authors of the Buildings of England series describe it as "a charming estate church".

North Rode railway station originally North Rode junction served the village of North Rode, Cheshire. The station was opened by the North Staffordshire Railway (NSR) on 18 June 1849 and formed the junction of the Churnet Valley Line from the main NSR line between Stoke-on-Trent and Macclesfield.The station was some distance from the village and traffic was sparse however the station remained open until 1962 when it closed completely, passenger traffic between North Rode and Leek having been withdrawn in 1960.

Henbury High School was a comprehensive school for girls and boys aged 11 – 18 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England, established in 1958. Henbury High closed in July 2007 and re-opened as Macclesfield High School in a new location. It had approximately 1000 pupils, and 100 members of staff. Before it became Henbury High School it was known as Broken Cross Secondary Modern School, but changed its name in 1979. It was a successful foundation school, with twin specialisms. In 1998, it was designated as a specialist technology college. In 2004, as a result of being identified as a high-performing secondary school by the DfES, the school was invited to apply for a second specialism in art and English.
