Harper High School (Chicago)

West Englewood, one of the 77 community areas, is on the southwest side of Chicago, Illinois. At one time it was known as South Lynne. The boundaries of West Englewood are Garfield Blvd to the north, Racine Ave to the east, the CSX and Norfolk Southern RR tracks to the west, and the Belt Railway of Chicago to the south. Though it is a separate community area, much of the history and culture of the neighborhood is linked directly to the Englewood neighborhood.

Ashland/63rd is an 'L' station and the terminal of the CTA Green Line's Ashland branch, located in the West Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. It is situated at 6315 S. Ashland Avenue. It opened on May 6, 1969. The station contains a Park 'n' ride lot with 235 spaces as well as a Kiss 'n' Ride lane. Though the station itself was not rebuilt in the Green Line renovation of 1994-96, an elevator was added to the station during that time to make it ADA accessible. This is one of two stations on the Green Line to be named Ashland. The other station is on the Lake Street branch and is shared between the Green and Pink Lines. The Red Line served this station from May 19, 2013 to October 20, 2013, April 3, 2017 to November 22, 2017, and July 30, 2018 to April 26, 2019.

Robert Lindblom Math & Science Academy High School (LMSA) (formerly known as Lindblom Technical High School) is a public 4–year selective enrollment high school and middle school located in the West Englewood neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Lindblom is operated by the Chicago Public School system. The school originally constructed in 1919 is named for Robert Lindblom, a nineteenth-century Swedish–born trader on the Chicago Board of Trade. Designated for students intended to enter vocations in industrial and skilled trades, in the later 20th century, it developed curricula to prepare students for college and was known as Lindblom College Prep High School. The Chicago City Council approved the designation of the Lindblom Building as a Chicago landmark by the Commission on Chicago Landmarks on June 9, 2010.

The Charles Warrington Earle School is a historic school building at 6121 S. Hermitage Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Opened in 1897, the school was one of many built to serve Chicago's growing student population in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a result of compulsory education laws and an influx of European immigrants to the city. School board architect William August Fiedler designed the Renaissance Revival school; his plan was typical of Progressive Era school designs, which focused on improving the layout, lighting, and ventilation of schools. Though the school was built to serve six hundred students, settlement in West Englewood outpaced its capacity, and in 1900 the school board doubled the school's size with an addition. The school served Chicago students for over a century before closing along with over fifty other public schools in 2013.The school was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 15, 2021.

On the evening of August 7, 2021, Ella French, a police officer with the Chicago Police Department, was fatally shot while conducting a traffic stop in the West Englewood community area in Chicago, Illinois. After pulling over a gray Honda CRV for an expired license plate, officers French, Carlos Yañez Jr. and Joshua Blas walked up to the vehicle, speaking with the three occupants. During the course of the stop, a struggle ensued between the rear passenger, Emonte Morgan, and officers French and Yañez, resulting in the death of French, the serious injury of Yañez and the shooting of Blas. French was the first female CPD officer to die in the line of duty since the shooting of Officer Irma Ruiz on September 22, 1988.

Loomis was a station on the Englewood Branch of the Chicago "L". The station opened on July 13, 1907 and closed in 1969 when the new Ashland Terminal opened.

Lake Township, also known as the Town of Lake, was a 42-square-mile (109 km2) former civil township in Cook County, Illinois, which now forms the south-west portion of Chicago. It was bounded by present-day Pershing Road (3900 South) on the north, State Street (0 East/West) on the east, 87th Street (8700 South) on the south, and Crawford Avenue (4000 West) on the west (although some sources state the current Chicago City boundaries as former south and west boundaries). The Union Stock Yards were developed as an economic anchor of the township. The township was annexed into the city of Chicago in 1889, and its functions fell into abeyance. Townships in Chicago were abolished in 1902; however, they, including Lake Township, are still used for property assessment purposes. The former township hub became the Englewood neighborhood.

Racine is an abandoned rapid transit station on the Chicago Transit Authority's Green Line. The station is located at 6314–16 South Racine Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Racine opened on February 25, 1907, when the Englewood branch of the South Side Elevated Railroad was extended westward. The station closed with the rest of the Green Line on January 9, 1994, to be rebuilt, but did not reopen with the rest of the line on May 12, 1996. The CTA does not plan to return the station to service, and its future remains uncertain.

Normal Park is the name of a former football and baseball field in Chicago, Illinois, during approximately 1914 through 1951. It was most notably the home field of the Chicago Cardinals before they moved to Comiskey Park. “”Original owner of Normal Park was Jim Brooks of St. Charles, Illinois.”” The field was on a block bounded by South Racine Avenue (to the east, previously Centre Avenue); West 61st Street (north); West 62nd Street (south); and South Throop Street (west). Normal Avenue (or Normal Boulevard) is also sometimes given as one of its bordering streets, although Normal Avenue (500W) is about 7 blocks east of Racine (1200W). There may have been some confusion due to "Normal Park" also having been the name of a Chicago neighborhood in the general area. In local newspapers, the location of the field was typically given as "61st Street and Racine Avenue." The Chicago Cardinals started out as the "Morgan Athletic Club" in 1898 and changed their name to "Racine Normals" after they began playing at Normal Park. Soon after, they became the "Racine Cardinals". According to legend, they assumed that nickname upon acquiring some reddish hand-me-down jerseys from the University of Chicago football team, the Maroons. The Cardinals joined the new American Professional Football Association (soon renamed to what is now the National Football League) and continued to use Normal Park as their home field for several years and continued to be called the Racine Cardinals for a while. They changed their name again, to "Chicago Cardinals", to avoid confusion after the National Football League fielded a team in Racine, Wisconsin. Starting in 1922, they split time between Normal Park and Comiskey Park before finally abandoning the old field in the late 1920s. The park no longer exists. On the eastern portion of the site along Racine sits a Chicago Police Department facility which was built in 1952.[Chicago Tribune, March 30, 1952, part 3 page 9] The western portion of the site is occupied by single family homes built on a cul-de-sac where the field once was. The only evidence of the field is an otherwise unexplained discontinuation of Elizabeth Street, which abruptly ends halfway between 61st and 62nd Streets and then resumes again a half-block north at 61st.

The Auburn Gresham Bungalow Historic District is a residential historic district in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The district includes 264 Chicago bungalows built from 1918 to 1932 along with a variety of other residential buildings. Homeownership became more attainable for working-class Chicagoans in the early twentieth century, and affordable bungalows played a key role in this pattern, with tens of thousands of the homes built in the city. Auburn Gresham, a South Side neighborhood with railroad access and little prior development, was one of the many parts of the city developed during the bungalow boom. While thirty-two different architects designed homes in the district, the bungalows are still relatively similar, as the uniform building design was a major factor in their affordability; however, elements such as color and brickwork distinguish the individual homes.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 9, 2012.

Chicago Lawn is one of the 77 community areas of Chicago, Illinois. It is located on the southwest side of the city. Its community neighbors include Gage Park, West Englewood, Ashburn, and West Lawn. It is bounded by Bell Avenue on the east, Central Park Avenue on the west, 59th Street on the north, and 75th Street on the south, and is 13 km (8.1 mi) southwest of the Loop. Local citizens refer to the area as "Marquette Park," after the park in its center.

Lithuanian Research and Studies Center (LRSC) (Lith.: Lituanistikos tyrimo ir studijų centras (LTSC)) is a non-profit scholarly research organization, which brings together varying cultural and academic organizations towards acquiring and preserving Lithuanian artifacts, documents, and other materials of cultural significance. The LRSC was created in 1982 in Chicago, Illinois to unify a number of other Lithuanian organizations. It has two facilities. Its archival, periodical, audio-visual and musicology collections are in a 7,000 square foot self-owned facility at 15533 129th St. in Lemont. Its 75,000 volume library, Lithuanian Museum, Thomas Remeikis Political Science Library, Jonas Dainauskas History Library, Milda Budrys Medical Museum, military and art archives comprise another 7,000 square feet in the Lithuanian Youth Center (Lietuvių Jaunimo Centras, 5620 S. Claremont Ave.) in Chicago, Illinois. It is funded by donations primarily from the Lithuanian American community. The center is the largest Lithuanian scholarly institution, archive, and publisher outside Lithuania. It has published over 50 scholarly books in both Lithuanian and English. The current chairman of the LRSC is Robert A. Vitas. The current president is Kristina Lapienyte. The LRSC has become a notable organization in Lithuanian studies.
