The City of Brighton was a local government area about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) south of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of 13.48 square kilometres (5.20 sq mi), and existed from 1859 until 1994.

Firbank Grammar School is an independent, Anglican, day and boarding school, situated in the suburb of Brighton, in the Bayside area of Melbourne, Australia. Established on 26 April 1909, by the Anglican Archbishop of Melbourne, Henry Lowther Clarke, the school currently caters for approximately 1,200 students. The Early Learning Centre and primary school are co-educational, whilst the secondary school (years 7–12) is for girls only. Firbank is a member of the Australian Anglican Schools Network,[1] the British Schools and Universities Foundation [2] and Girls Sport Victoria (GSV). Firbank has close ties with its brother school, Brighton Grammar School, a boys' school. Students of the two schools participate in a number of co-educational activities together such as music and drama.

Brighton Grammar School is an independent Anglican day school for boys, located in Brighton, a south-eastern suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Founded in 1882 by George Henry Crowther, Brighton Grammar has a non-selective enrolment policy and currently caters for over 1,400 students from the Early Learning Centre (ELC) to Year 12. The majority of students are drawn from the City of Bayside and surrounding suburbs of Brighton, East Brighton, Elsternwick, Hampton, Sandringham, Highett, Beaumaris and Black Rock. The school is affiliated with a number of associations including the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference, the Junior School Heads Association of Australia (JSHAA), the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA), the Australian Anglican Schools Network, and the Associated Public Schools of Victoria (APS).

North Brighton railway station is located on the Sandringham line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Brighton, and it opened on 19 December 1859 as Bay Street. It was renamed North Brighton on 1 January 1867, renamed Brighton on 1 December 1908, and renamed North Brighton on 1 January 1920.

St Andrew's Graveyard, Brighton is the graveyard of St Andrew's Anglican Church, Brighton, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The St Andrew's Graveyard is of historical significance as an extremely early, pre-Gold Rush graveyard and as a rare surviving example of such a graveyard in Victoria.The St Andrew's Graveyard is notable for the tombstones of early Victorian pioneers and prominent citizens, and their families, contained within it. These include Jonathan B. Were, leading merchant and agent and founder of J. B. Were and Son (d. 1885); Henry B. Foot, surveyor and planner of the Brighton township (d. 1857); William A. Brodribb, pastoralist and politician (d. 1886) and Thomas Higinbotham, chief engineer of the Victorian Railways (d. 1880). The retention of a wooden memorial marker (date unknown) is also of significance.

Star of the Sea College is an independent, Catholic, day school for girls, located in Brighton, an inner south-eastern suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Established in 1883 by the Presentation Sisters, the college has a non-selective enrolment policy, and currently caters for approximately 1,000 female students from Years 7 to 12. Star of the Sea is affiliated with the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA), the Alliance of Girls' Schools Australasia (AGSA), and is a founding member of Girls Sport Victoria (GSV).

Middle Brighton railway station is located on the Sandringham line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Brighton, and it opened on 21 December 1861 as Church Street. It was renamed Middle Brighton on 1 January 1867.

The Royal Brighton Yacht Club (founded in 1875) is located at Brighton, Victoria, Australia at 253 Esplanade Brighton.

Gardenvale railway station is located on the Sandringham line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Brighton, and it opened on 10 December 1906.The station has two side platforms, and is located in an unusual elevated position, located between the Nepean Highway and Martin Street, with access to the station from both.

On 5 June 2017, Yacqub Khayre, a 29-year-old Somali-born Australian, murdered a receptionist and held a sex worker hostage at the Buckingham International Serviced Apartments, located in Brighton a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. In a subsequent shoot-out with a police tactical unit, Khayre was killed and three police officers were wounded. Police consider the siege an act of terrorism.
