Monts, Indre-et-Loire

The canton of Monts is an administrative division of the Indre-et-Loire department, central France. It was created at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Monts.It consists of the following communes:

Artannes-sur-Indre (French pronunciation: [aʁtan syʁ ɛ̃dʁ] (listen), literally Artannes on Indre) is a commune in the Indre-et-Loire department in central France.

Loir-et-Cher (French pronunciation: ​[lwaʁ e ʃɛʁ], ) is a department in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. Its name is originated from two rivers which cross it, the Loir in its northern part and the Cher in its southern part. Its prefecture is Blois. The INSEE and La Poste gave it the number 41. It had a population of 329,470 in 2019.

The Château de Candé is a château located in the commune of Monts, Indre-et-Loire, France. It is situated 10 km (6 mi) to the south of Tours on the north bank of the river Indre.

Its borders were not modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Château d'Artigny or Château Le Puy d'Artigny is a French castle located in the commune of Montbazon, in the department of Indre-et-Loire in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The current structure was built between 1912 and 1928 to serve as residence to perfumer François Coty. Since the late 1950s, the castle has been converted into a hotel.

Ballan-Miré (French pronunciation: [balɑ̃ miʁe] (listen)) is a commune in the Indre-et-Loire department, central France. The commune was established 1818 by merger of the former communes of Ballan and Miré. It is located southwest of Tours.

Sorigny (French pronunciation: [sɔʁiɲi] (listen)) is a French commune in the Indre-et-Loire department, Centre-Val de Loire. Sorigny has been twinned with the village of Box, in Wiltshire, Great Britain, since 2016.

Joué-lès-Tours (French pronunciation: [ʒwe lɛ tuʁ] (listen), literally Joué near Tours) is a commune in the Indre-et-Loire department in central France.It is the largest suburb of the city of Tours, and is adjacent to it on the southwest.

On 20 December 2014, a man in Joué-lès-Tours near the city of Tours in central France entered a police station and attacked officers with a knife, shouting "Allahu Akbar" and injuring three before he was shot and killed. The attack was categorised as a case of religiously inspired terrorism by Europol, and has been reported by Europol as well as mappings by CNN and AFP as inspired by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
