Battle of Steenkerque

Steenkerque (French pronunciation: [stɛ̃kɛʁk]; Dutch: Steenkerke; in older English references also Steenkerke, Steenkirk, Steinkerque, Steinkerke or Steinkirk; Walloon: Stinkerke) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Braine-le-Comte, located in Hainaut Province, Belgium, 50 kilometres (31 mi) south-west of Brussels and 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) south of Enghien. Steenkerque is notable for the Battle of Steenkerque in 1692 during the Nine Years' War, when France defeated a joint English-Scottish-Dutch-German army. The French movie The African Doctor (in French Bienvenue à Marly-Gomont) was shot in this village in 2015. The 2019 Tour de France began in Brussels and passed through Steenkerque, then home to "500 âmes, à peine!" ("500 souls, barely!").

Horrues (Walloon: Orû) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Soignies, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. Since 1977, it has composed the municipality of Soignies along with the others villages Casteau, Chaussée-Notre-Dame-Louvignies, Naast, Neufvilles, Soignies (town), and Thieusies.

The Arrondissement of Soignies (French: Arrondissement de Soignies; Dutch: Arrondissement Zinnik) is one of the seven administrative arrondissements in the Walloon province of Hainaut, Belgium. La Louvière is detached from the Arrondissement on the same date to create the new Arrondissement of La Louvière.

Petit-Enghien (Dutch: Lettelingen; Walloon: Piti-Inguî) is a town of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Enghien, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. It was a municipality until the fusion of the Belgian municipalities in 1977. At the time, the municipality also included the village of Marcq. Petit-Enghien has around 1770 inhabitants. As with Enghien, Petit-Enghien was originally Dutch-speaking, but became majority French-speaking mostly through the education system. Petit-Enghien is near the language border, and as part of Enghien, it is a municipality with language facilities. Petit-Enghien was the site of Belgian cyclist and multiple Tour de France winner Eddy Merckx's first ever victory on October 1, 1961.

The Enghien Gardens (French: Parc d'Enghien / Dutch: Park van Edingen) are a domain of 182 hectares in Enghien or 'Edingen', Wallonia, Belgium, created by the dukes of Arenberg in the 17th and 18th century. The park is a green oasis of ponds, gardens and follies. Many considered the gardens a wonder of the world. Nothing remains of the Arenberg castle other than the chapel tower. Within the park, a new château was created in the 20th century. The Enghien municipality acquired the gardens in 1986, and opened them to the public.

Château d'Enghien is a château in Enghien, Wallonia, Belgium. The château dates from 1913 and is located within the Enghien Gardens. Before that, there were two other structures in its place. One was razed due to disrepair. The Duke Louis-Engelbert built another building in its stead. It caught fire on his inauguration day. The current building was built in 1913 on the request of Baron François Empain.

On 1 January 2006, Enghien had a total population of 11,980. The total area is 40.59 km2 (15.67 sq mi), which gives a population density of 295 inhabitants per km². The municipality consists of the following districts: Enghien, Marcq, and Petit-Enghien. It is situated on the Flemish border, and restricted language rights are granted to the Dutch speaking minority (so-called language facilities).

Rebecq (French pronunciation: [ʁəbɛk]; Walloon: Ribek) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the Belgian province of Walloon Brabant. On 1 January 2006 the municipality had 10,241 inhabitants. The total area is 39.08 km2, giving a population density of 262 inhabitants per km2. The municipality consists of the following districts: Bierghes, Rebecq-Rognon, and Quenast.

Braine-le-Comte (French: [bʁɛn lə kɔ̃t] ; Walloon: Brinne-e-Hinnot; Dutch: 's-Gravenbrakel [ˈsxraːvə(m)ˌbraːkəl] ) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. On January 1, 2018, Braine-le-Comte had a total population of 21,649. The total area is 84.68 square kilometres (32.70 sq mi) which gives a population density of 260 inhabitants per km2. The municipality consists of the following districts: Braine-le-Comte, Hennuyères, Henripont, Petit-Rœulx-lez-Braine, Ronquières, and Steenkerque. The Ronquières inclined plane at the Canal du Centre is in the municipality of Braine-Le Comte.

Braine-le-Comte railway station (French: Gare de Braine-le-Comte; Dutch: Station 's-Gravenbrakel) is a railway station in Braine-le-Comte, Hainaut, Belgium. The station opened on 31 October 1841 and is located on railway lines 96, 117 and 123. The train services are operated by the National Railway Company of Belgium (SNCB/NMBS).

Chaussée-Notre-Dame-Louvignies (Picard: El Caussêye) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Soignies, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. With the other villages Casteau, Horrues, Naast, Neufvilles, Soignies (town), and Thieusies, it composes the municipality of Soignies since 1977.
