Ritz Theatre (Jacksonville)

The LaVilla Museum is a museum of African American history and culture located in the 1929 Ritz Theater in Jacksonville, Florida. The museum opened in 1999.The museum documents the culture and history of people of African descent (most slaves, some free, and not all Americans) in northeast Florida prior to that territory's entry as a U.S. state in 1845, as well as LaVilla neighborhood of downtown Jacksonville (which was once a large and thriving African American community). LaVilla was home to so many poets, artists, musicians, authors, and playwrights that it was known as "the Harlem of the South". The Ritz Theatre is one of the few remaining buildings in the LaVilla neighborhood. Although most of the 600-seat theatre was razed in the 1990s, the northwest corner is original to the building.The highlight of the museum tour are two animatronic representations of James Weldon Johnson and J. Rosamond Johnson, LaVilla natives who composed the famous song, "Lift Every Voice and Sing". Rooms in the building evoke African American life throughout the 20th century by recreating a typical home living room, a Christian church, a barber shop, and a school room.

The Great Fire of 1901 was a conflagration that occurred in Jacksonville, Florida, on May 3, 1901. It was one of the worst disasters in Florida history and the third largest urban fire in the U.S., next to the Great Chicago Fire, and the 1906 San Francisco fire.

Theatre Jacksonville is a community theatre based in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. One of the oldest continually producing community theatres in the United States, its building, also known as the Little Theatre, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. Theatre Jacksonville is based in the neighborhood of San Marco. It puts on numerous productions throughout the year and runs a children's camp called Camp Theatre Jacksonville every summer.

The Brewster Hospital building is a historic U.S. hospital in the LaVilla neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida. It is located at 915 West Monroe Street. On May 13, 1976, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

The Young Men's Hebrew Association (also known as the Maceo Elk Lodge #8) is a historic site in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. It is located at 712 West Duval Street. On October 29, 1992, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.Young Men's Hebrew Association was an organization founded in Baltimore in 1854 to provide community services to Jewish neighborhoods.

The Masonic Temple (also known as Masonic Temple, Most Worshipful Union Grand Lodge PHA) is a historic Masonic temple in Jacksonville, Florida. It is located at 410 Broad Street. Constructed by the Grand Lodge between 1901 and 1912, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on September 22, 1980. The building currently contains retail space and non-Masonic office space as well as the offices and meeting rooms for the Most Worshipful Union Grand Lodge of Florida and Belize (a Prince Hall Masonic Grand Lodge).

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) provides fire protection and emergency medical services for Jacksonville, Florida, as well as all unincorporated areas of Duval County. According to a list of the thirty largest fire departments in the United States, based on staff size, JFRD is number eighteen.Duval County has the fifth largest fire department in the state based on the number of fire stations. JFRD is among the largest departments in the state and the nation. The department is made up of six divisions, sixty-three fire and rescue station locations, a professional career force of roughly thirteen-hundred individuals.

The Jacksonville Beaches communities are along the adjacent Atlantic coast. Significant factors in the local economy include services such as banking, insurance, healthcare and logistics. As with much of Florida, tourism is important to the Jacksonville area, particularly tourism related to golf. People from Jacksonville are sometimes called "Jacksonvillians" or "Jaxsons" (also spelled "Jaxons").

The Leon County Emergency Medical Services (LCEMS) provides emergency response and Advanced life support for all areas of Leon County including Tallahassee. The service was founded on December 31, 2003 and has been active for more than two decades. LCEMS is a government entity of Leon County and receives funding from a 0.75 mill assessment to property taxes.

The Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) provides fire protection and emergency response for Tallahassee, Florida, as well as all unincorporated areas of Leon County. The fire department has been active for nearly a century and has the "largest non-hospital-based medical response force" between Pensacola and Jacksonville. TFD is the designated responder for North Florida Task Force 7, Urban Search and Rescue Team in Florida.

Clay Hill is an unincorporated community in Clay County, Florida, United States. It is located in the northwest corner of the county and lies along County Road 218. It is a rural community that serves as a bedroom community for the surrounding areas, and home to several working farms. Agricultural products produced in Clay Hill include beef, cattle, hay, and timber. Employers in the area include a sawmill, auto and small engine repair businesses, a welding and fabrication shop, a tree service, and one general and two convenience stores. The community is home to two elementary schools (Wilkinson Elementary School and Clay Hill Elementary) and one junior high school (Wilkinson Junior High School).

The Duval County Courthouse is the local courthouse for Duval County, Florida. It houses courtrooms and judges from the Duval County and Fourth Judicial Circuit Courts. The new facility is located Downtown Jacksonville, Florida; it was built starting in 2009 and opened in 2012. Duval County was created on August 12, 1822 and was formerly part of St. Johns County. Although the county's area was huge, it took more than twenty years before the first courthouse was constructed during the 1840s. A second courthouse was constructed in 1886, but was burned in the Great Fire of 1901. The third courthouse was constructed in 1902 and closed in 1958. A new courthouse funded by the Better Jacksonville Plan was planned in 2000, but budget issues and rising costs delayed its construction until 2009.
