White Memorial Building (Syracuse, New York)

The Onondaga County Savings Bank was chartered in 1855 in Syracuse, New York. It was a franchise ahead of its time and had four separate branches by the late 19th century. The Onondaga County Savings Bank Building was constructed in 1897 adjacent to the Erie Canal in Clinton Square.In 1968, the bank shortened its name to Onondaga Savings Bank and in 1987 it changed again to OnBank.

The Wieting Opera House was a performance hall in Syracuse, New York, that hosted operas, films, and other performances from 1852 to 1930. The building's first iteration was funded by John Wieting and known as Wieting Hall. It burnt down after four years, in 1856. Wieting rebuilt the hall that year, and in 1870 renovated it into an opera house. Towards the end of the 19th century, the opera house was a major theater in the Eastern United States and held test performances of shows that were bound for performance on Broadway in New York City. The opera house burnt down in 1881 and 1896, and was rebuilt both times, the second time by Wieting's wife, Mary Elizabeth Wieting. The opera house began showing movies in the early 20th century, and closed in 1930, when it was replaced with a parking garage.

The Gere Bank Building is a five-story building located on Water Street in Syracuse, New York. It was designed by Charles Colton, and built in 1894. It is distinctive for its facade and use of contrasting materials. The cost of the building was $150,000, including nearly $50,000 for fireproof vaults in a room beneath the sidewalk. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. It is part of the Hanover Square Historic District. South Salina Street Downtown Historic District is a historic district in the United States, representing what was the commercial core of in Syracuse, New York from the mid-nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 16, 2009. The vacancy rate in the district is high, and some buildings need extensive rehabilitation. Recent revitalization plans served as impetus for seeking listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally it included the east side of the 200 block of South Salina Street, the entire 300 block and one building in the 400 block. This area had 22 contributing buildings and 3 non-contributing buildings. Among the contributing properties are two the White Memorial Building and the Loew's State Theater, also individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2014 its boundaries were increased to include some more side streets. Architects represented in the district include Horatio Nelson White, Archimedes Russell, Charles E. Colton, Joseph Lyman Silsbee, Charles D. Wilsey and Thomas W. Lamb.

The State Tower Building is a high-rise building located in Syracuse, New York. Completed in 1928, the building remains the highest in Syracuse. It has around 23 floors and is around 312 feet (95 meters) tall. For several years after the Bastable Theatre burnt down in a 1923 fire, the plot of land was considered as the potential site of a new theatre or an office building. Eventually the plot's owners, Central Offices decided to build an office building. Designed by Thompson & Churchill, work began on the foundation of the State Tower Building in 1927. The tower was completed by late April 1928. It initially functioned as an office building, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing property in the Hanover Square Historic District. In 2016 the building was bought by different owners, who redeveloped the top floors into high-end apartments; retaining just the first eight floors as office space.

The Bastable Theatre was a theatre in Syracuse, New York, from 1893 to 1923, when it burnt down. First built by Frederick Bastable, Sam S. Shubert began his theatre management at the Bastable in 1897. He and his brothers established The Shubert Organization, which became a major theatre owner. During Shubert's early years of management, he competed with the city's Wieting Opera House, which was controlled by The Theatrical Syndicate. The Bastable itself hosted a number of touring companies in the city and became known for hosting stock companies and melodramas. The State Tower Building was constructed on the site of the theatre after it burnt down.

It was built in 1875 adjacent to the Erie Canal, and, at 170 feet tall, was the tallest building in Syracuse. It opened in 1876 as Syracuse Savings Bank. Its passenger elevator, the first in Syracuse, was a curiosity that drew visitors.

Clinton Square is an intersection in downtown Syracuse, New York, United States. The square was the original town center and first came into existence in the early 19th century where roadways from north and south convened. With the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825 the intersection was further transformed. During the 19th century, the square was a marketplace that also hosted several public events, including an 1870 public barbecue reportedly attended by 20,000 people. As a busy intersection, the square hosted several large hotels and other historic buildings. The Soldiers and Sailors Monument was dedicated in the square in 1911. In 1917 the Canal was closed and filled in. In the decades that followed, Clinton Square was redeveloped into a park that holds various annual festivals. Since the 1990s, the square has held an ice skating rink in the winter. A major 2001 redevelopment project saw a larger fountain implemented. Clinton Square is also the site of Syracuse's municipal Christmas tree and menorah during the holiday season. The modern era has seen a number of festivals take place in the square, beginning with the 1991 Jazz Fest.

The Third National Bank, also known as the Community Chest Building, is located on James Street in Syracuse, New York. It was designed by architect Archimedes Russell in 1885. It is significant for its architecture and for its role in commerce in Syracuse in the late eighteenth century. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
