It is part of the Alba-Golden Independent School District located in west central Wood County. It is a consolidation of the nearby communities of Alba and Golden. Lake Fork Reservoir is a reservoir located in Wood, Rains, and Hopkins counties in the state of Texas, between the towns of Quitman, Alba, Emory, and Yantis, Texas. It was impounded by the Lake Fork Dam in 1980, and reached its normal pool surface elevation of 403.0 feet (122.8 m) above mean sea level in 1985. It consists of 27,264 acres (110.33 km2), offers 315 miles (507 km) of shoreline, and has a drainage area of 493 square miles (1,280 km2). The dam is 12,410 feet (3,780 m) in length and impounds Lake Fork Creek, a tributary of the Sabine River, and other major creeks are Big Caney and Little Caney. The dam and reservoir with a maximum capacity of 675,819 acre-feet (833,610,000 m3) are owned and operated by the Sabine River Authority, a state agency. It officially serves as a reservoir for Dallas and its suburbs. However, it is best known for its fishing, as it holds 15 of the top 20 Texas State Record largemouth bass ever caught, making it one of the premier trophy bass fishing lakes in the world.

Yantis is a town in Wood County, Texas, United States. The population was 388 at the 2010 census. The town is surrounded on three sides by Lake Fork Reservoir. It is located at the intersection of State Highway 154 and Farm to Market Road 17 approximately 12 miles north of the county seat of Quitman in northwestern Wood County.

Emory is a city in Rains County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,239 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Rains County. Previously known as Springville, the city and county are named after Emory Rains, who was a legislator from the area. Rains was the author of the Homestead Law of Texas, which was later used as a model for the protection of homesteads throughout the United States. Special legislation passed to create Rains County called for the citizens to vote on the location of the county seat and for that selected town to be named Emory.

Mineola–Wisener Field Airport (FAA LID: 3F9), a privately owned public use airport also known as the Mineola Airport and Wisener Field, was established in 1917. It has been under continuous operation by the same family since 1926. It is considered the oldest privately operated public use airport in the state of Texas. The field has been designated by the Texas Historical Commission as a Texas Treasure Business.

Rains County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 12,164. Its seat is Emory. The county (and county seat) are named for Emory Rains, a Texas state legislator. In 1970, Recorded Texas Historic Landmark Number 10860 was placed in the county courthouse lawn.
