Downtown Garland station (formerly known as Garland Central Transit Center until 2002) is a DART Light Rail station located in Garland, Texas (USA) at Walnut and Fifth Streets. It reopened November 18, 2002, serving the downtown Garland area including Garland City Hall, Historic Downtown Garland and Heritage Park. From 2002 until the 2012 extension to Downtown Rowlett, it served as the northeast terminus of the Blue Line.

Garland ISD extends from the Dallas city limits, northeast to the county line and serves parts of the communities of Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse. With a student enrollment of 56,459 students, GISD is currently the fourth largest school district in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and is thirteenth largest district in the state of Texas. Garland High School, the district's first high school, is more than one hundred years old. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.

Garland Christian Academy (GCA) is a private preK-12 Christian school in Garland, Texas. As of 2016 it had about 340 students.Lavon Drive Baptist Church voted to establish the school in 1971 and the school opened in August 1972 with 12 teachers and 136 students. It initially had Kindergarten through 6th grade. Grades 7-11 opened in 1973 and grade 12 opened in 1974.

The district, like most suburban districts in Texas, had long been considered solidly Republican. However, its pre-2022 configuration was considered more of a swing district as a result of changing demographics, along with antipathy towards former President Donald Trump in suburban areas. After 2022, the district was reconfigured to be solidly Democratic, re-electing Allred with over 60% of the vote.

The mascot for SGHS is the Titan, after retiring the Colonel, and the school colors are red and Columbia blue. The top right “square” on their shield used to be the confederate flag later being replaced by the swords. In 2009, the school was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.
