Maribo

Stiftsmuseum Maribo, also known as the Maribo County Museum, is a museum located in the centre of Maribo on the Danish island of Lolland. Its archeological and cultural heritage collections are housed in a specially designed building completed in 1890. Currently the exhibits include rustic furniture from Toreby, a variety of old clocks and the Maribo book collection consisting of some 2,000 volumes. There is also a complete set of the 18th-century Flora Danica illustrations of plants and flowers.Funded by donations from the local population, the museum was designed by the architect Ove Petersen (1830–1892) who also designed the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen.

Maribo Cathedral (Danish: Maribo Domkirke) is a Gothic cathedral church in Maribo on the island of Lolland in the southeast of Denmark. It was originally part of Maribo Abbey which was founded in the early 15th century. The chancel, the oldest section of the cathedral, probably dates from 1416. The plan of the church is unusual in that the chancel is at the west end of the building rather than the east as a result of the design instructions left by Saint Bridget.

Maribo Abbey, established in 1416, was the first Bridgettine monastery in Denmark and became one of the most important Danish abbeys of the late Middle Ages. It was located in the present town of Maribo on the island of Lolland (Region Sjælland) in southern Denmark. The monastery is in ruins, but the abbey church still remains in use as Maribo Cathedral.

Hunseby Church is located in the village of Hunseby some 3 km north of Maribo on the Danish island of Lolland. Built in the middle of the 12th century, the church has a Romanesque chancel and nave and a Gothic tower.

Knuthenborg Safaripark is a safari park on the island of Lolland in the southeast of Denmark. It is located 7 km (on Rte 289) to the north of Maribo, near Bandholm. It is one of Lolland's major tourist attractions with over 250,000 visitors annually, and is the largest safari park in northern Europe. It is also the largest natural playground for both children and adults in Denmark. Among others, it houses an arboretum, aviaries, a drive-through safari park, a monkey forest (with baboons, tamarins and lemurs) and a tiger enclosure. Knuthenborg covers a total of 660 hectares (1,600 acres), including the 400-hectare (990-acre) Safaripark. The park is viewable on Google Street View.

Søholt is a manor house located on the southern shore of the Maribo Lakes on Lolland in southeastern Denmark. The main building is from 1804 but was adapted to the Renaissance Revival style in the second half of the 19th century. The Baroque-style garden is open to the public.

Engestofte is a Neoclassical manor house located 6 km (4 mi) east of Maribo, Lolland Municipality, on the island of Lolland in southeastern Denmark.

Højbygaard Sugar Factory (Danish: Højbygaard Sukkerfabrik) was built in 1872–74 at Holeby on Lolland in southeastern Denmark. It was one of the first modern sugar factories built for the country's emerging sugar beet industry. It was taken over by De Danske Sukkerfabrikker in 1877 and operated until 1959. The buildings were then acquired by De Forenede Papirfabrikker (United Paper Mills) and operated as a paper mill under the name Højbygaard Papirfabrik from 1960 to 1993. The Højbygaard Sugar Factory complex was listed as a National Industrial Site in 2009. It has been renovated and is now home to a combination of offices, a hotel and a conference centre under the name Factory Lodge and is also home to the Visual Climate Center.

Fuglse Church is a parish church located some 13 km (8.1 mi) south of Maribo on the Danish island of Lolland. The original Romanesque church was almost totally rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the late 16th century. Standing prominently on a hilltop, the red-plastered building has a tall spire roofed in shingles.

Holeby was a municipality (Danish, kommune) on the island of Lolland in Storstrøm County in south Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 116 km2, and had a total population of 3,982 (2005). Its last mayor was Bjarne Larsen. The main town and the seat of its municipal council was the town of Holeby. Neighboring municipalities were Nysted to the east, Maribo and Sakskøbing to the north, and Rødby to the west. To the south was the Baltic Sea and the Fehmarn Belt. On 1 January 2007 Holeby municipality ceased to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It merged with the municipalities of Højreby, Maribo, Nakskov, Ravnsborg, Rudbjerg and Rødby to form the new Lolland municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 892 km2 and a total population of 49,469 (2005). The new municipality belongs to the new Region Sjælland ("Zealand Region").

Holeby is a small town in Lolland Municipality, in Region Zealand, Denmark. It was the seat of Holeby Municipality. Holeby is 6 kilometers north of the planned Lolland South railway station, set to open in 2028 on the line to Germany via the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link.

Kjærstrup, or Kærstrup, is a manor house and estate located 9 kilometres East of Rødbyon Lolland, Lolland Municipality, in Southeastern Denmark. The two-storey, half-timbered main building was faced with brick in 1836 and a central tower in the front was added in 1868. The building was listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1918. The adjacent farm buildings date from the early 1910s and are not part of the heritage listing. A Baroque style garden from around 1765 was restored in around 1900. The estate covers 487 hectares of land.
