Rawlings is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Allegany County, Maryland, United States, on the McMullen Highway (U.S. Route 220). As of the 2010 census, the Rawlings CDP had a population of 693.The community was named after Moses Rawlings, an officer in the Revolutionary War. It was originally known as "Rawlings Station" after a post office was established on the railroad there on March 7, 1856.

Bier is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Allegany County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 173.It is located along U.S. Route 220, 10 miles (16 km) southwest of Cumberland and 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Keyser, West Virginia.

Dan's Mountain Wildlife Management Area is a Wildlife Management Area in Allegany County, Maryland. The area covers forested mountainous terrain between altitudes of 900 feet (270 m) to 2,800 feet (850 m) above the North Branch of the Potomac River. Bobcats and black bears are found in the area. Hunting activities are primarily oriented around white-tailed deer and turkeys.

Dans Mountain is located in Allegany County, Maryland, USA between Georges Creek and the North Branch Potomac River. The highest point on Dans Mountain is called Dan's Rock which has an elevation of 2,895 feet (882 m). The mountain rises 2,200 feet (670 m) above the town of LaVale and the summit is the highest point in Allegany County. Although there are higher points in Maryland, Dans Mountain has the most impressive escarpment of Maryland's mountains. It is essentially continuous with the longer escarpment that continues both north (into Pennsylvania) and south (into West Virginia) known as the Allegheny Front.Dans Mountain State Park is located along a 16-mile (26 km) stretch of the mountain, 9 miles (14 km) south of Frostburg, Maryland. Dan's Rock Overlook is the highest scenic overlook in the park. The park also features a pond that is stocked annually, an Olympic-sized pool with a modern bathhouse, and concession stands. Dans Mountain is named for Daniel Cresap, the son of Thomas Cresap and one of the first settlers in Allegany County. Cresap was known for being adventurous, often hunting with a Delaware Indian named Nemacolin. While pursuing a bear in a tree, Daniel fell and lay unconscious until Nemacolin found him, and dragged Daniel home to safety. Since that event, the mountain has been known as Dans Mountain. Dan's Mountain Wildlife Management Area protects the mountain in an area covering 9,504 acres.

Pinto is an unincorporated community along the North Branch Potomac River in Allegany County, Maryland, United States across from Rocket Center, West Virginia. While the town is officially named Potomac, its post office is referred to as Pinto because there already exists a Potomac, Maryland. Pinto is located south of Cresaptown on Winchester Road. Pinto once had a sizable apple orchard industry.

Bel Air is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Allegany County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 1,258. It is surrounded by the Cresaptown CDP and prior to 2010 was listed by the Census Bureau as part of the Cresaptown-Bel Air CDP. Bel Air is part of the Cumberland, MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) located in Rocket Center, West Virginia, is a diverse industrial complex employing some 1,000 people across 1,628 acres (6.59 km2). The facility is a member of the Federal Laboratory Consortium and is operated by Northrop Grumman (former Alliant Techsystems) under contract with the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).

Rocket Center shares a ZIP Code with Keyser but is located 15 miles (24 km) north along the North Branch Potomac River in Mineral County, West Virginia. There are no residents in Rocket Center. Also on the site is the Robert C. Byrd Hilltop Office Complex and the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing, both named for the second-longest-serving member of Congress, the late United States Senator Robert C. Byrd.

Dans Mountain State Park is a public recreation area located nine miles (14 km) south of Frostburg and to the east of the town of Lonaconing in Allegany County, Maryland. The state park occupies 482 acres (195 ha) on 16-mile-long (26 km) Dans Mountain and is managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Cresaptown-Bel Air was a census-designated place in Allegany County, Maryland, United States. The population was 5,884 at the 2000 census. For the 2010 census, the area was separated into two CDPs, Cresaptown and Bel Air. Cresaptown-Bel Air is part of the Cumberland, MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area.

McKenzie is an unincorporated community in Allegany County, Maryland, United States, containing only a few houses, and mostly land. Its name is derived from a family which owned a large farm along the river bottom in the area. It is located directly across from the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in Rocket Center, West Virginia. The area was formerly a railroad junction of the Patterson Creek Cutoff and the main B&O line. McKenzie is also the site of one of the first settlements in Allegany County, where many pieces of glass, metal, stone, and some coins have been found. In the fields of the river bottom, arrowheads and flint can be found, suggesting a possible Native American community at one time, similar to the Barton, Maryland site.
