Joseph Rafferty (c. 1974 – 12 April 2005) was an Irish murder victim. Following the assault of Rafferty's sister Carmel at a party, Rafferty confronted the alleged attacker, who reportedly told him that his family had connections to the "IRA" and could get him killed. Rafferty continued to receive threats that the Provisional IRA (PIRA) would get him for several months before his killing. The Rafferty family met with Daithí Doolan, the local Sinn Féin representative, asking him to have the threat stopped. On 12 April 2005, Rafferty was shot twice with a sawn-off shotgun, once in the leg and once in the chest, as he left his flat in at the Hayward apartment complex in Ongar, Dublin to go to work. Then Taoiseach Bertie Ahern stated in September 2005 that he was satisfied that there was no official involvement from the IRA. Ahern stated the murder was committed by "Elements, probably of criminality, claim[ing] they had links with republicans." Both Doolan and Gerry Adams have called for co-operation with the Garda in the investigation of Rafferty's murder. Adams stated he would be willing to meet with members of the Rafferty family. The tenth and twelfth reports of the Independent Monitoring Commission (IMC), released in April and October 2006 respectively, contain a table on the number of murders believed to be linked to paramilitary groups between March 2003 and August 2006. While Rafferty's murder is not included in the table, a footnote states that "a member or former member of PIRA may have been involved", and that while the IMC have no reason to believe the attack was carried out by the PIRA, they believe that members of Sinn Féin and the PIRA "were aware in advance of the threat and did not take sufficient action to prevent it." Rafferty's other sister, Esther Uzell-Rafferty, said "It's what we have been saying all along. We've never said [the murder] was sanctioned by the IRA's top man, but other Sinn Féin members knew it was going to happen and did nothing about it." Uzell-Rafferty ran as an independent candidate in the 2007 Irish general election for Dublin South-East to call on Daithí Doolan to fully co-operate with the Garda investigation into her brother's killing. In 2007 results, she received 673 first preference votes. Rafferty's family have stated there are similarities between the murder of Rafferty and that of Robert McCartney.

Ongar is an outer western suburb of Dublin, Ireland. Cumann Naomh Peregrine is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Clonsilla, Fingal, Ireland. It was founded in 1978 when a group of local people got together with Fr. Joe Madden of the Servite Order and decided to form a GAA club of their own. The club caters for a range of age groups from four years upwards in the parishes of Hartstown, Huntstown, Porterstown, Blakestown and Mountview. St Peregrines has a 500-seater spectator stand, a gym, astro turf and sports hall. Local rivals include St Brigid's and Castleknock. The adult football team competes in AFL3 and also competes in the Dublin Senior Football Championship, having won the IFC in 2006. The senior hurlers compete in AHL3 and the Intermediate Hurling Championship. The club is humorously referred to as " The Penguins" because of its strip.

Luttrellstown Castle, dating from the early 15th century (c. 1420), is located in Clonsilla on the outskirts of Dublin, Ireland. It has been owned variously by the eponymous and notorious Luttrell family, by the bookseller Luke White and his descendants Baron Annaly, by the Guinness family, the Primwest Group, and since 2006, by JP McManus, John Magnier and Aidan Brooks. The castle has hosted visits by Queen Victoria in 1844 and 1900, and its media profile was raised when Victoria Adams married David Beckham there on 4 July 1999. The demesne's current owners have converted Woodlands into a 5-star resort.

Mulhuddart (Irish: Mullach Eadrad, meaning 'the hill of the milking place') is an outer suburb situated 12 km (7.456 miles) north-west of Dublin, Ireland. The River Tolka passes near the village. Mulhuddart is also a civil parish in the barony of Castleknock in the historic County Dublin.

The Royal Canal disaster of 1845 occurred on the evening of 25 November 1845 along the Royal Canal near Clonsilla, County Dublin, Ireland when the night boat Longford, on its way from Dublin to the eponymous town of Longford, was accidentally steered into the bank of the canal, forcing it to tip over enough that it began to take on water, and sank. Overloading of the boat, and the rocky nature of the canal bank in which the incident occurred may have contributed to the sinking due to the weight of passengers shifting unexpectedly as the bow hit a solid obstacle. Of the 54 people onboard at the time of the accident, 15 died.

Garda GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, founded in 1922. They are the GAA representative team of the Garda Síochána. Garda have won the Dublin Senior Football Championship on six occasions in 1927, 1929, 1933, 1934, 1935 and 1948. Garda won the Dublin Intermediate Football Championship on one occasion in 1986, bringing them back to senior status. Garda have also had success as a hurling side, having also won the Dublin Senior Hurling Championship on six occasions in 1931, 1929, 1928, 1927, 1926 and 1925. Westmanstown Gaels is the juvenile division of the club and was set up in 2005.
