It is the seat of the administrative district (gmina) called Gmina Krośnice. It lies approximately 10 kilometres (6 mi) south-east of Milicz and 45 km (28 mi) north-east of the regional capital Wrocław. Count Adalbert von der Recke had established a Samaritan psychiatric hospital for children here in 1860, modeled after his orphanage in Düsseltal, Rhineland.

It is part of the Wrocław metropolitan area. The gmina covers an area of 178.73 square kilometres (69.0 sq mi), and as of 2019 its total population is 8,151.

It lies approximately 3 kilometres (2 mi) north-west of Krośnice, 7 km (4 mi) south-east of Milicz, and 45 km (28 mi) north-east of the regional capital Wrocław. During World War II the Germans established and operated a subcamp of the Gross-Rosen concentration camp in the village, whose prisoners were Jewish women transported from the Auschwitz concentration camp.
