Cork and Muskerry Light Railway

Cork Western Road railway station was a terminus station on the Cork and Muskerry Light Railway in County Cork, Ireland. The station was located at Lancaster Quay (the Bishop's Marsh) on the Western Road, close to what is now the River Lee Hotel in Cork city.

Washington Street (Irish: Sráid Washington) is a street in central Cork city, Ireland. Built in 1824, it runs from the old medieval town centre onto the site of the western marshes, and today links the Western Road and Lancaster Quay with the Grand Parade.

The Cork gunpowder explosion was a large explosion that took place in Cork, Ireland on 3 November 1810.Twenty two people were killed and over forty injured when gunpowder stored in a labourer's house in Brandy Lane, Cork, exploded. A subsequent inquiry revealed that several employees of the Ballincollig Royal Gunpowder Mills (then the largest gunpowder manufacturing plant in the world), had been systematically stealing the material which was then sold on to quarrymen for rock blasting.Figures compiled by the Gunpowder Works authorities showed that almost half a ton was unaccounted for in the nine-month period preceding the disaster. During the course of the inquiry it was discovered that the illicit gunpowder had to be dried when brought to the house on Brandy Lane in the St Finbarr's area of the city. The method of drying reportedly involved a lit candle. In addition, one of the men involved on the night of the explosion, was seen drinking heavily in a local tavern. A disaster fund was opened for the victims and their dependents to which over £12,000 was subscribed within two weeks.

Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral (Irish: Ardeaglais Naomh Fionnbarra) is a Gothic Revival three-spire Church of Ireland cathedral in the city of Cork. It is located on the south bank of the River Lee and dedicated to Finbarr of Cork, patron saint of the city. Formerly the sole cathedral of the Diocese of Cork, it is now one of three co-cathedrals in the United Dioceses of Cork, Cloyne and Ross in the ecclesiastical province of Dublin. Christian use of the site dates back 7th-century AD when, according to local lore, Finbarr of Cork founded a monastery. The original building survived until the 12th century, when it either fell into disuse or was destroyed during the Norman invasion of Ireland. Around 1536, during the Protestant Reformation, the cathedral became part of the established church, later known as the Church of Ireland. The previous building was constructed in the 1730s, but was widely regarded as plain and featureless. The cathedral's demolition and rebuild was commissioned in the mid-19th century by an Anglican church intent on strengthening its hand after the reforms of penal law. Work began in 1863, and resulted in the first major commissioned project for the Victorian architect William Burges, who designed most of the cathedral's architecture, sculpture, stained glass, mosaics and interior furniture. Saint Fin Barre's foundation stone was laid in 1865. The cathedral was consecrated in 1870 and the limestone spires completed by October 1879. Saint Fin Barre's is mostly built from local stone sourced from Little Island and Fermoy. The exterior is capped by three spires: two on the west front and above where the transept crosses the nave. Many of the external sculptures, including the gargoyles, were modelled by Thomas Nicholls. The entrances contain the figures of over a dozen biblical figures, capped by a tympanum showing a Resurrection scene.

The North Mall Distillery was an Irish whiskey distillery located in Cork City, Ireland. In its day one of the most famous distilleries in Ireland, the distillery was destroyed by a fire in 1920. Distilling operations never resumed at the North Mall after the fire, and it was later converted into a bottling and storage facility which was used by Irish Distillers until 2007, at which point operations were transferred to Irish Distillers' other bottling facilities in Dublin. In the mid-2000s, much of the site was jointly acquired by University College Cork and Mercy University Hospital, and has since been redeveloped.

The Erinville Hospital (Irish: Ospidéal Erinville) was one of the three maternity hospitals in Cork, Ireland. It was located on the Western Road in the city.

Ichigo Ichie is a Japanese kaiseki restaurant in Cork, Ireland. It was awarded a Michelin star for 2019.The restaurant name alludes to the Japanese idiom Ichi-go ichi-e (一期一会), literally "one time, one meeting", reminding people to cherish any gathering that they may take part in, citing the fact that many meetings in life are not repeated. Even though the host and guests may see each other often socially, one day's gathering can never be repeated exactly. The phrase “ichigo-ichie” has two parts: “ichigo” means “one life” and “ichie” means “a one-time encounter.” And so this is often translated as “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” This phrase originated with the tea ceremony, where it expresses the feelings of the host to show sincere hospitality towards guests.

Cork Courthouse (Irish: Teach Cúirte Chorcaí, Sráid Washington) is a judicial facility in Washington Street, Cork, Ireland. It serves as the Cork Court Office in civil and family related matters, while the courthouse on Anglesea Street deals with matters of crime. It operates on the level of both the District and Circuit Courts. The courthouse occupies the entire block between Washington Street, Liberty Street, Cross Street and Courthouse Street.

The Franciscan Well, founded in 1998, is a craft brewery and pub located in Cork, Ireland. The brewery and pub are located on the north bank of the River Lee, on the site of an old Franciscan monastery from 1219, and the monastery walls (including the eponymous well) now surround the beer garden adjacent to the pub, where contemporary fermentation vessels are also visible. During the 1940s the area was used to bottle Guinness beer, manufactured in Dublin, for Cork customers.While the Franciscan Well beer brand was acquired by Molson Coors in 2013, the pub and brewery are still in the hands of the original owners. Beer brands originated in Franciscan Well include Chieftain IPA, Rebel Red, Shandon Stout (created in partnership with Jameson distillers), Well Hazy, Archway Lager, and Friar Weisse. In 2016, the packaging was rebranded from the original image of a monk, and several of these brands were selected for nationwide and overseas distribution in 330ml cans.By 2018, two decades since the brewery had been established, the annual production reached 90,000 kegs, and the brewery had become a well-established brand in Cork and Ireland.

Elizabeth Fort is a 17th-century star fort off Barrack Street in Cork, Ireland. Originally built as a defensive fortification on high-ground outside the city walls, the city eventually grew around the fort, and it took on various other roles – including use as a military barracks, prison, and police station. Since 2014, the fort has seen some development as a tourism heritage site, reportedly attracting 36,000 visitors during 2015. The walls of the fort have been accessible to the public on a regular basis since September 2014.
