Wedel Power Station

The Fachhochschule Wedel University of Applied Sciences gGmbH is one of the few private but non-profit universities of applied sciences in Germany. It is state-recognized and offers eleven twelve bachelor's and six eight master's degrees in the fields of computer science, technology and economics. It is located on the western outskirts of Hamburg in Schleswig-Holstein and is financed through tuition fees, a state grant and third-party funding. The FH Wedel University of Applied Sciences is a family company and has been run by the third generation of the founder's grandson, Eike Harms, since it was founded in 1969 (as of November 2018). There are currently around 1,350 students enrolled at the university.

The Schiffsbegrüßungsanlage Willkomm-Höft (literally, Ship Greeting Station Welcome Point, Höft being Low German for headland or point) is a facility at the Schulauer Fährhaus (Schulau Ferry Building, a restaurant) in Schulau, the southern district of Wedel on the Lower Elbe. It was founded by Otto Friedrich Behnke on 12 June 1952. Currently, it is sponsored by Nautische Kameradschaft HANSEA.Ships heading upriver for or downriver from the port of Hamburg are welcomed or bid farewell by dipping the Hamburg flag and by hoisting the international flag signal for "bon voyage" (letters U and W). For vessels over 1,000 GT leaving German waters, the national anthem of their country of registry is additionally played between 8:00 AM and sunset or 8:00 PM. Occasionally, the ship will return the greetings by dipping her flag or sounding her whistle. For the welcomes and farewells, there are recordings of 152 different national anthems of maritime nations, or rather of those that keep a register of shipping, and welcoming and farewell messages in the local language. These are available on compact cassette (red lettering for welcome, black lettering for farewell) and computer. Both systems can be used interchangeably. The ship welcoming station is notified on arriving and departing vessels by the Hamburg nautical registration office once an inbound ship has passed Stadersand or an outbound ship, Hamburg Finkenwerder. Visitors are briefed on each ship by loudspeaker. Information includes name, nationality, date of construction, builder, operator, length, beam, and draught. Plus, if applicable and known, container capacity and trivia. These data are stored in a constantly updated, handwritten card index on about 17,000 ships.The ceremony of ship welcoming and farewell is performed by five so-called "welcoming captains." As of late 2021 the captains are Eckart Bolte, Wolfgang Adler, Hartmut Hoffmann, Uwe Mohr and Wolfgang Eder.

Wedel station (officially Wedel (Holst), meaning Wedel in Holstein) is a railway station on the Altona-Blankenese line, served by the rapid transit trains of the Hamburg S-Bahn, located in Wedel, Germany.It is a terminus of the line S1.

It is located in the borough of Altona and is the westernmost quarter of Hamburg, bordering the German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein in the west, north, and northeast and the Elbe river to the south. Wedel is a town in the district of Pinneberg, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is situated on the right bank of the Elbe, approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) south of Elmshorn, and 17 kilometres (11 mi) west of Hamburg.

Rissen railway station in Hamburg, Germany, is located on the extended Altona-Blankenese line and is served by the trains of the Hamburg S-Bahn. The rapid transit trains of the line S1 of the Hamburg S-Bahn call the station in the Rissen quarter of the Hamburg borough of Altona.

The Klövensteen is a woodland area west of Hamburg, Germany.The forest covers an area of more than 513 ha (1,270 acres). The Klövensteen is located in the districts of Hamburg in Rissen and Sülldorf and also has parts in Schleswig-Holstein namely in the towns of Pinneberg and Wedel and in the communities of Appen and Holm. Originally the Klövensteen was part of a 100 km (62 mi) long inland dune, which lasted from the last Ice age and extended over an area from the northern Elbe, from the present-day Kiel Canal over the Haseldorf marsh to Geesthacht. The forest was created through afforestation in the 19th century.

The Schnaakenmoor is a nature reserve area located in the northwest of the forest district Klövensteen in Hamburg, Germany. The Klövensteen is a forest district and a recreational area in the west of Hamburg. Schnaakenmoor covers also some areas from the Grotenmoor, the Spitzendorfer Moorflagen, Babenbischenweg and Feldweg 83. The Schnaakenmoor emerged through the last ice age, some 10,000 years ago. It developed from a long sand dune, which roughly covered an area reaching from Elmshorn to Glückstadt. Nowadays the Schnaakenmoor consists mainly of bog moss, which make a basis of about 1 metre bogmoss layer. Plant researcher and other biologists find a lot of rare plant and animal species in the Schnaakenmoor. For example, a variety of different landscapes are to be found in this small area. Examples are inland dunes, hill moors, buckwheat or meadows. Animal species are e.g. warty newt, moor frog, large marsh grasshopper and crossed adder. In the year 2006 the area of Schnaakenmoor was enlarged about 100 hectares. Some measures have since been taken to maintain the Schnaakenmoor, so parts were cut from pine forests to meet its needs. The Schnaakenmoor serves alongside research also as a nearby recreational area, as well as the Klövensteen whole.

Jork is a small town on the left bank of the Elbe, near Hamburg (Germany). Jork belongs to the district of Stade, in Lower Saxony. The town is the capital of the Altes Land, one of the biggest fruit growing areas in Europe, and Jork is home to a Fruit Research Center.

Wedeler Au (German pronunciation: [ˈveːdəlɐ ˈaʊ̯] (listen); in older texts also named Wedelbe(c)k) is a river of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It flows into the Elbe near Wedel.

The Wittmoor Measurement and Reception Station in Holm, Pinneberg district, northern Germany, is an equipment of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk (North German broadcasting company) for the supervision of the broadcasting frequencies in the southern Pinneberg district and the western area of Hamburg. Also, it accommodates a big archive of sound carriers which is accommodated in several buildings and serves for the broadcast of the radio program of N-Joy on 95.6 MHz with 200 W ERP. The reception aerials and broadcasting aerials of the station are on a 118-metre (387 ft) high, guyed lattice steel mast with a square cross-section which replaced an older 80-metre (260 ft) high guyed lattice steel mast which was dismantled, after the erection of the new mast. Also, there is a dish aerial on the station area for satellite reception with approx. 2.5 metres (8 ft 2 in) diameter. The Wittmoor Measurement and Reception Station publishes annually an official frequency list of the radio stations, the such called Wittmoor List, maintained up to June 2018 by the Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT).

The Baursberg has a height of 91.6 m above sea level (NN) and is therefore the largest hill in the quarter of Blankenese, Hamburg, Germany and the second largest of the city (behind Hasselbrack). It is part of the high shore of Blankenese. On top of it the Waterworks Baursberg is located. It was built in 1859, being the first with filtration in Hamburg. Until 1960 also water of the river Elbe was used, after that only ground water, because of the growing pollution of the river. Eleven wells pump water from depths of 40 to 320m. The height of the hill is then used to transport the water to the consumer without pumps, even to distant quarters such as Othmarschen and the town of Schenefeld in Schleswig-Holstein. The waterworks is operated by state owned Hamburg Wasser.
