Summerhill, County Meath

Summerhill House was a 100-roomed Palladian house in County Meath, Ireland which was the ancestral seat of the Viscounts Langford and the Barons Langford. Built in 1731, it was likely designed by Sir Edward Lovett Pearce and completed by Richard Cassels in the Palladian style, although Sir John Vanbrugh, who was related to Pearce and with whom he trained, is thought to have also influenced the design of the house, which could be seen by the Baroque details, great arched chimney stacks and the palatial grandeur and scale. The house demonstrated the power and wealth the Langford Rowley family had at the time. They owned vast amounts of land in counties Meath, Westmeath, Cork, Londonderry, Antrim, and Dublin as well as in Devon and Cornwall in England. The house also welcomed royalty, and ranked architecturally amongst the finest and most modern mansions in Europe. The house was largely destroyed by fire in 1921 in the Irish War of Independence, and the remnants were eventually demolished some decades later. Desmond FitzGerald, 29th Knight of Glin and president of the Irish Georgian Society, described its loss as "probably the greatest tragedy in the history of Irish domestic architecture".

Summerhill Gaelic Football Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the village of Summerhill in County Meath, Ireland. The team was first founded in 1905 but later disbanded. The current club was founded in 1931, and has since won 8 Meath Senior Football Championships. Summerhill is one of three Meath teams to have won the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship.

Rathmolyon (; Irish: Ráth Moliain, meaning 'ringfort of the plain of St. Liadhain') is a village in the southern portion of County Meath, Ireland, situated 8 km south of Trim. It is situated at the junction of the R156 regional road and the R159 regional road connecting Trim to Enfield. Rathmolyon serves as a service centre for the surrounding rural area. The village is in a townland and civil parish of the same name.

Dangan Castle is a former stately home in County Meath, Ireland, which is now in a state of ruin. It is situated by Dangan Church on the Trim Road. The castle is the former seat of the Wesley (Wellesley) family and is located outside the village of Summerhill. It was the childhood home of Field Marshal The 1st Duke of Wellington.

The Battle of Dungan's Hill took place in County Meath, in eastern Ireland on 8 August 1647. It was fought between the armies of Confederate Ireland and the English Parliament during the Irish Confederate Wars. The Irish army was intercepted on a march towards Dublin and destroyed. Although it is a little-known event, even in Ireland, the battle was very bloody (with over 3000 deaths) and had important political repercussions. The Parliamentarian victory there destroyed the Confederate Leinster Army and contributed to the collapse of the Confederate cause and the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland in 1649.

Collegeland is a townland in Athlone, County Westmeath, Ireland. The townland is in the civil parish of St. Mary's.The townland stands to the east of the city centre, and contains the Auburn Heights estate.

Laracor, in Irish Láithreach Cora, is a civil parish which is located in County Meath in Ireland, south of Trim. It overlaps with the electoral division of the same name. The civil parish consists of the 21 townlands of Adamstown, Ballinrig, Brownstown, Clondoogan, Clonmahon, Cnoc an Línsigh (Summerhill), An Daingean (Dangan), Fearann Eoin Baiste (Saintjohns), Freffans Great, Freffans Little, Ifferknock, Knightsbrook, the eponymous Láithreach Cora (Laracor), Maigh (Moy), Readstown, Springvalley, Stokestown, Summerhill Demesne, Summerstown, Umberstone Great, and Umberstown Little. Main roads are the R158 traversing the parish area lengthwise, the R159 joining the former in the north of the parish, and the R156 crossing the R158 in Summerhill village, the largest settlement in the parish area. Jonathan Swift lived at Laracor from 1700 to 1713 as a church minister. His friend Richard Tenison, Bishop of Meath, had been Vicar of Laracor in the 1670s. The ruins of Dangan Castle, the childhood home of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, are situated in Dangan townland north of Summerhill village.

The Knightsbrook River is a river in County Meath, Ireland. The river rises near Summerhill, and flows north past the R156, and later the R158 and R159 roads, through Knightsbrook, and merges into the River Boyne a few kilometres to the east of Trim.

Kiltale (Irish: Cill Táile) is a small rural community district in County Meath, Ireland with a population of approx. 300. Kiltale is situated on the R154 regional road, the main Dublin to Trim road. It is approximately 9 km east of Trim, about 9 km west of Dunshaughlin and 19 km south of Navan. Kiltale is just over 7 km from the historical seat of the High King of Ireland at the Hill of Tara. Kiltale is home of the European Union Food and Veterinary Offices and Grange, Teagasc's Beef Research Centre.

Knightsbrook is a village and townland in County Meath, Ireland. It is located on the R158 road, close to the junction with the R159. to the south of Trim. The town is located in the civil parish of Laracor. Knightsbrook Hotel and Golf Club stands to the north, and the Knightsbrook River flows through the south of the townland.
