Wistow, Leicestershire

Foston is a deserted medieval village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Kilby, in the Blaby district of Leicestershire and lies approximately 6.1 miles (9.8 km) south of the city of Leicester, England. The settlement name Foston means "Fotr's farm/settlement": "Fotr" is an Old Norse personal name, and "tūn" in Old English means an enclosure, farmstead, village or estate. In 1931 the parish of Foston had a population of 36. On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Kilby.

Wistow Hall is a 17th-century country house in Wistow, Leicestershire, England which has been converted into an apartment building. It is Grade II* listed.The Hall was built to an H-plan of rendered brick with a Swithland slate hipped roof. It has a seven window frontage with two storeys of sash windows and a row of dormer windows in the roof behind a parapet. At each corner are turret buttresses.

Newton Harcourt is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Wistow, in the Harborough district, in the English county of Leicestershire, and lies 7 miles south-east of the city of Leicester on the northern ridge of the River Sence valley. In 1931 the parish had a population of 142.

Great Glen railway station was built by the Midland Railway in 1857 on its extension from Leicester to Bedford and Hitchin.

Kilby - Foxton Canal is a 32.1 hectares (79 acres) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest along the Grand Union Canal and its banks in Leicestershire, between Kilby Bridge, south of Wigston, and Debdale Wharf, north of Foxton.Nine species of pondweed have been recorded on the canal, two of which are nationally rare, and submerged plants include Nuttall's waterweed and yellow water-lily. Fleckney Tunnel has a long established colony of Daubenton's bats.The canal towpath runs through the site.

Great Glen (or Glenn) is a village and civil parish in the Harborough district, in Leicestershire, 2 miles south of Oadby. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 3,662. Leicester city centre is about seven miles north west. Its name comes from the original Iron Age settlers who used the Celtic word glennos meaning valley, and comes from the fact that Great Glen lies in part of the valley of the River Sence. The 'great' part is to distinguish the village from Glen Parva.

It was founded in 1981, after the loss of the city's state-funded grammar schools. Leicester Grammar School is closely affiliated with Leicester Grammar Junior School and Stoneygate School, and in general the majority of Junior School leavers are accepted by the senior school.The school has just over 90 teaching staff and 830 pupils, all of whom are day-students. It has its own preparatory form for children in Year 6, and its own sixth form for Years 12 and 13. Fleckney is a village and civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, England. It is situated 2.5 miles (4 km) west of the A6 national route between Market Harborough and Leicester. The village appeared in the Domesday Book and remained a small farming community until the 19th century, which saw development of industry: initially bricks and later hosiery. The historic village centre is a hub of amenities for the mostly rural local area.

Post town, Wigston, under Leicester. Acres, 1, 060. Real property, £2, 200. Pop., 362. Houses, 95. The property is divided among a few. Framework knitting is carried on. The living is a p. curacy in the diocese of Peterborough. Value, £63. Patron, Sir H. Halford, Bart. The church is plain and good, with a very low tower. There is an Independent chapel."

The Beauchamp College ( BEE-chəm) is a coeducational secondary school and further education community college, in Oadby, a town on the outskirts of Leicester, England. It is situated on the southern edge of the built-up area of Oadby on the same campus as Gartree High School and Brocks Hill Primary School. It is the only Oadby school to offer a pathway of 11–19, with students joining in Year 7 and progressing through to GCSE and then Level 3 courses at KS5. It was rated top state secondary in the Leicester Mercury Real Schools Guide in 2017. However, now it has dropped in ranking as well as Ofsted ranking from previously being “Outstanding” to “Good”

Gartree High School is a coeducational secondary school with academy status. Its age-range designation is 11–16. GCSEs have been taught since 2017 and its first GCSE results published in 2019. The school is situated in Oadby, a town on the south side of Leicester, England. Notable former pupils include rock legend John Deacon of Queen.
