Lagan Valley (Northern Ireland Parliament constituency)

Lagan Valley (Irish: Gleann an Lagáin, Ulster Scots: Glen Lagan) is a constituency in the Northern Ireland Assembly. The seat was first used for a Northern Ireland-only election for the Northern Ireland Forum in 1996. Since 1998, it has elected members to the current Assembly. For Assembly elections prior to 1996, the constituency was largely part of the South Antrim and North Down constituencies. Since 1997, it has shared boundaries with the Lagan Valley UK Parliament constituency.

The Lagan Valley Hospital is a hospital in Lisburn, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It provides services to people from Greater Lisburn, the Lisburn City Council area and other parts of South East Ulster. It is managed by the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust.

Lagan Valley is a parliamentary constituency in the United Kingdom House of Commons. The current MP is Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, leader of the Democratic Unionist Party. The constituency has always returned unionist MPs.

On 15 June 1988 an unmarked military van carrying six British Army soldiers was blown up by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) at Market Place in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. The explosion took place at the end of a charity marathon run in which the soldiers had participated. All six soldiers were killed in the attack – four outright, one on his way to hospital and another later on in hospital. Lisburn is the headquarters of the British Army in Northern Ireland. Four of the dead were from the Royal Corps of Signals regiment whilst the other two were from the Green Howards and Royal Army Ordnance Corps regiments respectively. A booby-trap bomb was hidden under the Ford Transit van in which the soldiers were travelling, and was designed in such a way that the blast went upwards to cause maximum damage to the vehicle. Eleven civilian bystanders were injured, including a two-year-old child and 80-year-old man. The bombing is sometimes referred to as the Lisburn "Fun Run" bombing.

Lisburn City Council was the local authority for an area partly in County Antrim and partly in County Down in Northern Ireland. As of May 2015 it was merged with Castlereagh Borough Council as part of the reform of local government in Northern Ireland to become Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council. Created in 1974, the council was the second largest in the Belfast Metropolitan Area. Council headquarters were in the city of Lisburn. It was the second-largest council area in Northern Ireland with over 120,000 people and an area of 174 square miles (450 km2) of southwest Antrim and northwest Down. The council area included Glenavy and Dundrod in the north, Dromara and Hillsborough in the south, Moira and Aghalee in the west, and Drumbo in the east. The council area consisted of five electoral areas: Downshire, Dunmurry Cross, Killultagh, Lisburn Town North and Lisburn Town South. It had 30 councillors, last elected in 2011. The final composition was: 14 Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), 5 Ulster Unionist Party (UUP), 5 Sinn Féin, 3 Alliance Party and 3 Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP). For elections to the Westminster Parliament, the council area was split between the Lagan Valley constituency, Belfast West and South Antrim constituencies.The first elections for the new council took place in May 2014.

Lisburn was a borough constituency which elected two MPs for the borough of Lisburn, County Antrim, to the Irish House of Commons, the house of representatives of the Kingdom of Ireland.

Christ Church Cathedral, Lisburn (also known as Lisburn Cathedral), is the cathedral church of the Diocese of Connor in the Church of Ireland. It is situated in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, in the ecclesiastical province of Armagh. Previously St Thomas's church, it is now one of two cathedrals in the Diocese, the other being the shared Cathedral Church of St Anne, Belfast. The Dean and Chapter of Lisburn Cathedral are known as the Dean and Chapter of St Saviour, Connor in honour of the original cathedral of Connor, County Antrim. The current building was started in 1708, after its predecessor was burnt down. Its noteworthy features are the gallery seating in the nave and the octagonal spire. At approximately 55m (181 feet) it is the tallest and most prominent building in the city of Lisburn.

The Old Town Hall is a municipal structure in Castle Street, Lisburn, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The structure, which is used as a constituency office by the Democratic Unionist Party, is a Grade B2 listed building.

Lisburn Courthouse is a judicial facility in Railway Street in Lisburn, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is home to the magistrate's and county courts.

Lisburn railway station serves the city of Lisburn in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Lagan Valley Island is a conference and events centre located on a small Island in Lisburn City in Northern Ireland. The building was opened for business in March 2001 and was officially opened in November 2001 by Her Majesty the Queen. Lagan Valley Island has many functions; it is headquarters of Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council, and the facility is also a unique mix of civic, business and arts facilities – home to Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council head office, the Island Arts Centre, Council Chambers, a purpose-built conference centre and theatre, stunning wedding facilities and Lighters Restaurant. The site on which Lagan Valley Island was built once played a significant role in Lisburn's industrial past. Previously the site for the Island Mill Spinning Company, famous for the production on linen through it, production at the mill came to an end in 1983. When this happened, Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council (then Lisburn Borough Council) purchased the site, and with funding assistance from the National Lottery to the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, regeneration of this site began.

The Wallace Park in Lisburn, Northern Ireland was bequeathed to the people of Lisburn by Sir Richard Wallace. There are a number of football pitches, tennis courts, a duck pond and a children's adventure play area. The grounds of Lisburn Cricket Club are in the centre of the park where Cecil Walker MBE is the groundman. A velodrome was opened in 1953, but this fell into disrepair. The removal of one of the bankings was proposed as part of the park's redevelopment plan in 2008, to open up views in the park. The park has had a major overhaul with major landscaping and modernisation completed in 2011. Three members of the world famous Irish band, the Shamrock Tenors, Matt Good, Jack Walsh, and Raymond Walsh, all attended the nearby Friends' School, Lisburn. The band cite the park as an important element to their development as musicians, inspiring them to think "beyond the bandstand toward a greener future". It is rumoured that the band return to the park once a year to play a discreet gig to the local skateboarding community.
