Graceland (Elkins, West Virginia)

The Davis and Elkins Historic District is a National Historic Landmark District on the campus of Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia. It includes two mansions, the Senator Stephen Benton Elkins House (Halliehurst) and Graceland, that are separately listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A gate house and an ice house are also included in the district. These four structures are associated with the families of Henry Gassaway Davis (1823-1916) and Stephen Benton Elkins (1841-1911), who were dominating figures in the politics and economy of West Virginia in the late 19th century. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1998.

Senator Stephen Benton Elkins House, also known as Halliehurst, is an historic mansion located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. It was designed by architect Charles T. Mott and built in 1890, as a summer home for U.S. Senator Stephen Benton Elkins. It consists of a three-story main block with hipped roof and service wing. The roof is punctuated by towers, turrets, dormers, and chimneys. A porch surrounds much of the first floor. It features a two-story portico with columns around a central, flat roofed tower. Located on a mountainside, it commands a view of the valley beneath and the forest and mountain peaks that surround the valley. In 1923, the house and approximately 60 acres of land were deeded to Davis & Elkins College by Sen. Elkins' widow.In 1990 the mansion and the gatehouse were restored. Frantz Pugh of Elkins was recognized in 1990 when the college named him their Volunteer of the Year and designated him their heritage buildings restorationist and conserver of the fabric as a result of the restoration effort in reclaiming the Halliehurst mansion and its gatehouse on campus. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It is a contributing property in the Davis and Elkins Historic District, a National Historic Landmark.

The Monongahela National Forest is a national forest located in the Allegheny Mountains of eastern West Virginia, USA. It protects over 921,000 acres (3,727 km2; 1,439 sq mi) of federally managed land within a 1,700,000 acres (6,880 km2; 2,656 sq mi) proclamation boundary that includes much of the Potomac Highlands Region and portions of 10 counties.The Monongahela National Forest includes some major landform features such as the Allegheny Front and the western portion of the Ridge-and-valley Appalachians. Within the forest boundaries lie some of the highest mountain peaks in the state, including the highest, Spruce Knob (4,863 ft). Spruce Knob is also the highest point in the Allegheny Mountains. Approximately 75 tree species are found in the forest. Almost all of the trees are a second growth forest, grown back after the land was heavily cut over around the start of the 20th century. Species for which the forest is important include red spruce (Picea rubens), balsam fir (Abies balsamea), and mountain ash (Sorbus americana). The Monongahela National Forest includes eight U.S. Wilderness Areas and several special-use areas, notably the Spruce Knob–Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area.

Augusta Heritage Center Summer Workshops is a music and heritage festival held by the Augusta Heritage Center, each summer at, Elkins, West Virginia. Over 50 years old, this three week festival covers music, dance and crafts relating to 10+ themes. These themes include: Old-Time music Bluegrass Cajun music and Zydeco music Irish Blues Dance, including Contra, Cajun and Zydeco, Irish Stone, wood and metal working and more.The workshops includes concerts, shows, dances and instruction, typically in July. The instruction, by well known musicians and craftsman in each area, is at beginning to expert levels. Participants come from all over the world.

Davis & Elkins College (D&E) is a private college in Elkins, West Virginia.

Albert and Liberal Arts Halls are a set of two historic buildings located on the campus of Davis & Elkins College at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. The brick Georgian Revival style buildings were built between 1924 and 1926, and planned as a unit of two distinct and separate buildings connected by a graceful stone arcade. They were designed by noted Charleston architect Walter F. Martens. Originally each building was 3+1⁄2 stories, with gable roof and dormers, and slightly recessed 2+1⁄2-story wings. A fire at the Science Hall (now Albert Hall) in 1956, necessitated removal of the gable roof and a flat roof was installed. The buildings serve as educational offices and classrooms. Albert Hall is named for Charles E. Albert, Professor of Physics, who served as president from 1935 to 1939. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

"Pinecrest", also known as the Richard C. Kerens House and Kerens-Spears House, is a historic home located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. It was built in 1892 to a design by the Boston architecture firm Peabody & Stearns as a summer home for Richard C. Kerens (1842–1916). It is a large sandstone dwelling in a modified Shingle Style. It has an asymmetrical shape with gable-fronted sections in the main portion, a hip roof on the servants wing, and two cone-shaped tops on rounded turrets. It features a front porch that extends well beyond the exterior wall and curves along a single-story rounded projection at the east corner. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church at 450 Randolph Avenue in Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia, United States. It was originally built in 1894 and 1895 after designs prepared by the Baltimore architect Charles E. Cassell. In 1921, an Akron plan Sunday School building was added to the north by Clarence L. Harding of Washington D. C. The building consists of a nave, an engaged tower, and a gable roofed structure located perpendicular to the nave. It is built of a granular conglomerate stone consisting of large, transparent quartz crystals bound in clay or silica. The style is Gothic, with Romanesque and eclectic influences.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Warfield-Dye Residence, also known as "Wayside," or "Warfield House," is a historic home located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia, United States. It was built in 1900–1901, and is a large 2+1⁄2-story brick-and-wood-shingle dwelling in the Queen Anne style. It is topped by a hipped roof with dormers and two-story bay. It features a large wraparound porch with wooden rail, Tuscan order column supports, and a balustrade along the roof edge. The house was built by Harry R. Warfield, son-in-law of Senator Henry G. Davis across from "Graceland".It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Downtown Elkins Historic District is a national historic district located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. It encompasses 65 contributing buildings in the central business district of Elkins. It includes mostly commercial buildings constructed in the late-19th and early-20th century. Notable buildings include the Dann Building (1897), Randolph Company (1896), Randolph Hotel (1893), Wallace Bakery (1895), railroad depot (1908), Ward Building (1908), First United Methodist Church (1904), Hotel Delmonte (1899), Darden Block (1906), Brown Building (1906), Stalnaker Block (1900), and Post Office and Federal Building (now City Hall, 1917).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

Dr. John C. Irons House, also known as the Dr. S. G. Moore Home, is a historic home located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. It was built in 1889, and is a two-story Italianate frame dwelling with drop wood siding, a brick foundation and a "T"-shape plan with rear one-story addition. It has a low pitched gable end to the side with a two-story projecting angled bay added about 1911.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

Wees Historic District is a national historic district located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. It encompasses 282 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 1 contributing object in a primarily residential section of Elkins. The district includes houses representative of popular architectural styles between about 1890 and 1955. The district also includes a variety of domestic dependencies, several historic churches, the 7.9-acre City Park, a Works Progress Administration-era public building, and a small number of commercial buildings. Also in the district is a bronze equestrian statue of Henry Gassaway Davis. Located in the district are the previously listed Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, Randolph County Courthouse and Jail, and the Warfield-Dye Residence.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
