Montchanin, Delaware

The Inn at Montchanin Village is a historic hotel in Montchanin, Delaware, an unincorporated community in New Castle County. The Inn, which consists of historic houses and other buildings, now interconnected by elaborate gardens, comprises much or all of the Montchanin Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Montchanin Historic District is a national historic district located at Montchanin, New Castle County, Delaware. It encompasses 19 contributing buildings centered on the triangular area which was the original village of Montchanin. Notable buildings include the frame, stick-style railroad station (1889), stuccoed stone schoolhouse (1890), a stone bank barn, the blacksmith shop, and various cottages, dating from circa 1840 through the early-20th century.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.Most or all of the village is currently included in the Inn at Montchanin Village, a hotel which is a member of Historic Hotels of America.

Strand Millas and Rock Spring is a historic home located near Montchanin, New Castle County, Delaware. The name "Strand Millas" is derived from an industrial town near Belfast, Ireland. The Strand Millas house was built in 1701, and is a 2+1⁄2 story, quarried stone dwelling. It was expanded with one room on each floor during the 1760s. Strand Millas was the home of du Pont heiress Louisa d'Andelot Carpenter after her marriage in 1929. Across from the main house is the Rock Spring springhouse. Adjacent to the spring is a dwelling said by some to have been built in the 1680s, but it was extensively remodeled during the 19th century. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Jacob Broom House, also known historically as Hagley, is a historic house on Christchurch Road near Montchanin, Delaware. It was built in 1795 by Jacob Broom, one of the Delaware signers of the United States Constitution. The house was purchased in 1802 by Éleuthère Irénée du Pont, progenitor of the prominent Du Pont family and founder of the DuPont chemical concern, who established the Eleutherian Mills below the house on the banks of Brandywine Creek. The house, which remains in the hands of Du Pont descendants, was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974, for its association with Broom.

Wilson Run is a 2.26 mi (3.64 km) long tributary to Brandywine Creek in New Castle County, Delaware. Wilson Run drains the Winterthur area of Delaware.

Holladay-Harrington House is a historic estate located at Greenville, New Castle County, Delaware. It was designed about 1927 by noted Delaware architect E. William Martin. It is a 2+1⁄2-story, three bays wide, stuccoed dwelling in the Colonial Revival style. The house has a hipped roof with wide overhanging eaves, projecting pavilion-like side sun porches, and French doors in all three first floor bays. The property includes a contributing garage, three small greenhouses, driveway pillars, fountain and concrete pool, retaining wall, metal fencing with grape design near greenhouses, and landscape features.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Lower Louviers and Chicken Alley, also known as Louviers and Duck Street, is a historic home located near Wilmington in New Castle County, Delaware. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Rockland Historic District is a national historic district located at Rockland, New Castle County, Delaware. It encompasses 6 contributing buildings in the hamlet of Rockland and associated with Rockland Mills. They include the school (1831), Mansion House (1802), Heshbon Factory mill building, the Kirk House (1797, 1885), and Rock Spring and the springhouse.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Brandywine Manufacturers Sunday School, also known as Sunday School and Hagley Office, is a historic Sunday school building located near Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware. It was built in 1817, and is a one-story, rectangular stone building. It measures 31 feet by 65 feet and features an Ionic order columned portico and school bell tower. Also on the property is a contributing spring house. It was built for workers, old and young, to learn the basics of reading, writing, and "ciphering," and remained in use as a school until 1851. From 1902 to 1921, it was the Hagley Yard office of the E. I. du Pont de Nemours Company. It was then converted to a private dwelling.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

From 1802 to 1921, Eleutherian Mills was a gunpowder mill site used for the manufacture of explosives founded by Eleuthère Irénée du Pont, which grew into the DuPont company. The name also refers to the house on the hill above the mills, which was the first du Pont family home in America. In 1957 the site became an outdoor museum when the Hagley Museum and Library was founded. The site was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1966.
