The petitioners cited the superior education outcomes and lower property taxes in Northern County School District as motives for the change request. Estimates project a net gain of $800,000 to $1 million over the next five years to Northern York County School District if the change were approved. After initially denying the petition in March 2017, the State Board of Education issued an order on March 10, 2021, transferring Washington Township to the Northern York County School District effective with the 2021-2022 school year.

The Englehart Melchinger House in the borough of Dover, York County, Pennsylvania, is the restored home of a prominent 19th Century businessman, Englehart Melchinger. It was built about 1852, and is a rectangular brick building with Greek Revival and Italianate design details. It features an entrance portico with Doric order columns, heavy scroll brackets, and a paneled frieze; and cast iron lintels.Melchinger was the son of Israel Melchinger, an American Revolutionary War Hessian soldier who settled in Dover after the war rather than returning to Germany. Upon his father's death in 1834; Englehart assumed the role of the town's postmaster. He amassed personal wealth through several business ventures, including a lumber company. Melchinger was among the large group of Dover residents who suffered losses when Confederate cavalry under J.E.B. Stuart occupied the town on the morning of July 1, 1863, during the Gettysburg Campaign. However, the loss of horses and personal property did not have a significant financial effect, and Melchinger prospered. The home, at 5 North Main Street (Pennsylvania State Route 74), was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 12, 1992.

Pettit's Ford is an American historic home that is located in Dover Township, York County, Pennsylvania. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Detters Mill was a small 19th-century community in Dover Township, York County, Pennsylvania, United States, located 2.5 miles (4.0 km) south of Wellsville, and 17 miles (27 km) southwest of Harrisburg. In 1830, a local miller named George Sheffer constructed a stone grist mill on Harmony Grove Road near the confluence of Bermudian Creek and Conewago Creek. A few other families later constructed homes in the vicinity. The mill, located on the eastern bank of Conewago Creek, closed in the early 20th century and the community waned. The covered bridge of the township collapsed in 1965. As of 2008, the old mill was being used as an apartment complex.
