Coal Center is a borough on the Monongahela River in Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States and part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area since 1950. The population was 110 at the 2020 census.

The California Boatyards was a boatyard in California, Pennsylvania, along the Monongahela River. From the beginning on the California, Pennsylvania, in the 1780s, California was the site of logging and had sawmills. The sawmills were later used to support the shipbuilding industry. The boatyards, which were active from 1852 to 1879, were best known for the construction of steamboats used for western trade along the Ohio River. During the active period, 131 boats were built, with 74 in the 1850s alone. The boatyards ceased operation in 1879 when the Pittsburgh, Virginia and Charleston Railway acquired the riverside for a right-of-way. On June 18, 1994, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission erected a historical marker at the California Area Public Library, a former railroad passenger station near the former location of the boatyards. The marker was sponsored by the Monongahela River Bluffs Association.

The California Area Public Library is the public library serving California, Pennsylvania, and is a branch of the Washington County Library System. The library is located in the former Pennsylvania Railroad Passenger Station, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It is designated as a historic public landmark by the Washington County History & Landmarks Foundation. On June 18, 1994, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission erected a historical marker at the California Area Public Library noting the importance of the California Boatyards.

Old Main is a historic building on the campus of Pennsylvania Western University California (known before July 2022 as California University of Pennsylvania) in California, Pennsylvania. It is designated as a historic public landmark by the Washington County History & Landmarks Foundation.

Pennsylvania Western University, California (abbreviated as PennWest California) is a campus of Pennsylvania Western University in California, Pennsylvania, United States. The campus had an enrollment of 2,717 as of fall 2024. Founded in 1852 and merged into Pennsylvania Western University in 2021, the university offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. It is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The school was California University of Pennsylvania from 1983 to 2022, before the merger.

The Elmo Natali Student Center, commonly referred to as The Union, is the student union building centrally located on the campus of California University of Pennsylvania (CALU). Originally built in 1968, and renovated and expanded in 1992, the Natali Student Center is home to a large variety of student facilities and activities. Groundbreaking to begin a 40,000-square-foot addition and 60,000-square-feet of renovations to the Center took place on May 20, 2013. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based WTW Architects is the architect of record while Nello Construction, headquartered in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, is serving as the general contractor. The four-level facility will undergo a transformation to create a central public space for the CALU campus. The two main lobbies located on each end of the building will be replaced with a rotunda, stretching 50 to 60 feet in diameter. This will serve as the central gathering place. In addition, the updated facility will include collaborative tech stations (or "collaboration pods"), in which small groups of students can work together on projects. The Center’s updates will also accommodate CALU’s new food service program which features electronic ordering as well as sustainable dining. Sustainability will be accomplished through the use of energy efficient equipment as well as purchasing local produce. The project renovation is expected to be completed by July 2015.

Hamer Hall is a multi-purpose arena located on the campus of Pennsylvania Western University California (known before July 2022 as California University of Pennsylvania) in California, Pennsylvania. The building is the home to California's athletic offices, varsity arena, natatorium, weight room, training room, classrooms and other facilities used by Vulcan student-athletes and the campus community. Hamer Hall's hardwood court is the current home of the California Vulcans men's and women's basketball and volleyball teams, while adjacent to the main arena, the first floor includes 10 locker rooms and the main athletic equipment room. Cal's six-lane, 25-yard competition pool, also used for classes and recreation, also has several locker rooms, new scoreboards and record boards, as well as the head coach's office and gallery seating for 250. The second floor features the main athletic office and space for all the varsity programs. In addition, the University's sports management program office is located in Hamer Hall. In the past, the building was the default location for commencement ceremonies, however, Hamer Hall ceased to host most sporting events and commencement ceremonies when the Convocation Center opened in fall 2011, ending Hamer Hall's 46-year tenure as Cal U's home court. Hamer Hall opened in 1965 and was rededicated in 2000, with the renovation and construction of a new "Alumni Room".

Hepner–Bailey Field at Adamson Stadium is an American football stadium, located in California, Pennsylvania on the campus of Pennsylvania Western University, California (PennWest California; known before July 2022 as California University of Pennsylvania, or Cal U). The stadium has a 6,500 seat capacity. In 2006, the playing field was renamed for two of California University's distinguished alumni and most recognizable athletic figures, Bill Hepner and Mitch Bailey. Adamson Stadium includes an eight-lane all-weather track, as well as field facilities which were renovated in 2002. The stadium includes a two-level press box that can accommodate radio and television broadcasters as well as two large varsity locker rooms, two sets of public restrooms, concession stand, scoreboard with message board capabilities, ticket booths, training room and an equipment room. Just outside Adamson Stadium is the area for track & field throwing events (javelin, discus, shot put and hammer). PennWest California's television station, CUTV, as well as WCAL 91.9 FM broadcasts most Vulcan football games from Adamson Stadium. Root Sports Pittsburgh has carried a couple games per season from the stadium as well. In 2007, ESPNU televised the National Semi-final game live from Adamson Stadium In 2007, the stadium hosted its first three NCAA-DII Football Playoff games, including the Northeast Regional Championship and the National Semi-final game in which California fell to Valdosta State 28–24. The stadium also hosted an NCAA National Semi-final game in 2008. California was again defeated, this time by Minnesota Duluth, 45–7. The stadium, as well as the surrounding Roadman Park, are undergoing renovations. The former baseball field, adjacent to Adamson Stadium, has been replaced with a larger parking lot that spans the entire 'home side' of the stadium. Also, a new concession stand has been built to better serve the spectators at Adamson. Before the start of the 2009 season, a WaveCam was installed for permanent use at Adamson Stadium, the WaveCam has since been dismantled and is no longer in use. A color video board was also installed before the start of the 2009 season.

WCAL (91.9 FM) is a student-run college radio station serving PennWest California (formerly known as California University of Pennsylvania) and the surrounding area, including Washington, Fayette, Westmoreland, Greene, and Allegheny counties.It also streams online. Broadcasting at 3.3 kilowatts, the station can be heard in a 30-40 mile radius of California, Pennsylvania. WCAL is FCC licensed to, and owned by, The Student Association, Inc., and broadcasts 24 hours per day from the 1st floor Media Suite in the Natali Student Center on the PennWest California campus. The station operates a freeform format, and airs a variety of student and staff programming each week. The station also broadcasts Vulcans football and men's and women's basketball games. WCAL is open to all students, regardless of major. PennWest California faculty and staff are also offered opportunities to air original programming.
