Covanta Hempstead is a waste-to-energy plant in Uniondale, New York operated by Covanta. It is the tallest structure in Nassau County, and the fourth largest power generation facility on Long Island by net energy generated. The original plant on the site opened in 1979 on land formerly part of Mitchel Air Force Base. It used an untested wet refuse-derived fuel process, and operated only for about a year before it was shut down due to mechanical failures, labor and payment disputes, unpleasant odors that could be smelled two miles (3.2 km) away, and concerns about toxic dioxin emissions. After the original operator defaulted on its bonds, the plant was sold, demolished, and rebuilt as a new plant using a traditional dry process, opening in 1989.

The Endo Pharmaceuticals Building, also known as “Endo Laboratories”, is a pharmaceutical plant designed by architect Paul Rudolph in 1962 in Garden City, New York, in the receding farmlands of Long Island. The “castle-like structure” was built to house the Endo Pharmaceuticals research, manufacturing and administration facilities. It still stands today as an example of post World War II American architecture in the Brutalist style.

East Garden City (also known as the Nassau Hub) is a hamlet and former census-designated place (CDP) in the northeast part of the Town of Hempstead, in the central part of Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States, along the Hempstead/North Hempstead town line. The population was 6,208 at the 2010 census, when it was still listed as a CDP. Since then, it is now included in the Uniondale CDP. The hamlet is mostly a commercial and industrial area, and it also includes Nassau Community College – along with a portion of Hofstra University's north campus.

The New York Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) is located in the East Garden City neighborhood of Uniondale, on Long Island, New York. New York TRACON, also known as N90, is a type of Federal Aviation Administration air traffic control facility known as a consolidated TRACON, meaning that a single location provides approach service for several large airports. It is headquartered at 1515 Stewart Avenue.

Nassau Community College (NCC) is a public community college in Uniondale, New York. It was founded in 1959 and is part of the State University of New York.

WHPC (90.3 FM) is a non-commercial radio station licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to Garden City, New York. The station is owned and operated by Nassau Community College, and began broadcasting on October 27, 1972. The Cradle of Aviation Museum is an aerospace museum located in Uniondale, New York on Long Island, established to commemorate Long Island's part in the history of aviation. It is located on land once part of Mitchel Air Force Base which, together with nearby Roosevelt Field and other airfields on the Hempstead Plains, was the site of many historic flights. So many seminal flights had occurred in the area that, by the mid-1920s, the cluster of airfields was already dubbed the "Cradle of Aviation", the origin of the museum's name.

Carle Place (previously known as Carll Place) is a station along the Main Line of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). It is served by trains on the Port Jefferson Branch at all times while most Ronkonkoma Branch trains and all Montauk Branch trains bypass the station. It is located at Cherry Lane and Atlantic Avenue in Carle Place, New York.

The Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM) is a Children's museum located on the campus of Mitchel Field in Uniondale, New York.

Mitchel Air Force Base, also known as Mitchel Field, was a United States Air Force base located on the Hempstead Plains of Long Island, New York, United States. Established in 1918 as Hazelhurst Aviation Field #2, the facility was renamed later that year as Mitchel Field in honor of former New York City Mayor John Purroy Mitchel, who was killed while training for the Air Service in Louisiana. Decommissioned in 1961, Mitchel Field became a multi-use complex that is home to the Cradle of Aviation Museum, Nassau Coliseum, Mitchel Athletic Complex, Nassau Community College, Hofstra University, and Lockheed. In 2018 the surviving buildings and facilities were recognized as a historic district and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Roosevelt Field is a shopping mall in the East Garden City section of Uniondale, New York. It was designed by I. M. Pei and is the largest shopping mall on Long Island, the 2nd-largest in the State of New York, and the tenth-largest shopping mall in the United States.It is managed by Simon Property Group. It is the second most successful mall in the state. The anchors of the 243-store mall are Bloomingdale's, JCPenney, Macy's, Nordstrom, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Neiman Marcus. Previous anchor stores were Gimbels (succeeded by Stern's), A&S, and Alexander's (succeeded by Bloomingdale's). The original anchor store was Macy's. Discount department store chain Century 21 was no longer expected to open in the former Bloomingdale’s Home Furniture in Spring 2021 because Century 21, on Thursday September 10, 2020, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, as a result of insurance companies failing to financially support the chain during the COVID-19 pandemic. In its place, Primark has opened.
