Broomall, Pennsylvania

Marple Township is a township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. It contains the census designated place of Broomall. The population was 23,743 at 2015. ZIP codes include mainly 19008, but also partially 19064 and 19063. The township is run by Marple Township board of commissioners.

The 1696 Thomas Massey House is one of the oldest English Quaker homes in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is a 2-story brick and stone house, originally constructed by the English, Quaker settler, Thomas Massey in 1696. It is located on Lawrence Road near Sproul Road in Broomall, Pennsylvania.

The Van Leer House, is an historic house in the colonial style. Built for Dr. Bernardhus Van Leer, it is one of the last historical dwellings in Marple Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

Glenwood Memorial Gardens is a 70-acre lawn cemetery in Broomall, Pennsylvania. It was originally established in 1849 as a rural cemetery on 20 acres in North Philadelphia as Glenwood Cemetery. Over 700 Union and Confederate soldiers who died in local hospitals during the American Civil War were buried in Glenwood cemetery. The soldiers' remains were moved to the Philadelphia National Cemetery in 1891. By the 1920s, Glenwood Cemetery had fallen into disrepair, suffered from vandalism and was the target for new development. The City of Philadelphia closed the cemetery to new burials in 1921 and many families relocated graves including the famous Barrymore family of actors. New Glenwood Cemetery was established in 1923 on farm land in Broomall. The remains of 169 Mexican-American War veterans were reinterred to the Philadelphia National Cemetery in 1927 and the 20-foot marble monument to their honor was moved with them. Old Glenwood Cemetery was closed by the City of Philadelphia in 1938 and 20,000 burials were relocated to New Glenwood Cemetery. The cemetery expanded after World War II and was renamed Glenwood Memorial Gardens. It is currently owned by Service Corporation International, the largest cemetery provider in the United States.

Cardinal O'Hara High School is a coeducational Catholic high school of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The school is named after John Francis O'Hara who was Roman Catholic Archbishop of Philadelphia from 1951 to 1960. It is located in Springfield, Pennsylvania and was first opened in September 1963.

Ithan Creek (also known as Ithan Run) is a tributary of Darby Creek in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is approximately 4.2 miles (6.8 km) long and flows through Radnor Township and Haverford Township. The creek's watershed has an area of 7.39 square miles (19.1 km2) and is highly developed. It has three named tributaries: Browns Run, Kirks Run, and Meadowbrook Run. Ithan Creek is within the Piedmont Uplands physiographic province. The creek was historically the site of several mills and has been subjected to numerous floods over the years. In 1902, a sewage company began dumping raw sewage into the creek, but this practice was stopped in 1905. The creek is in approved trout waters. It is the site of Ithan Valley Park, a small park with hiking and fishing opportunities and the Radnor Valley Country Club.

The Haverford State Hospital was a psychiatric hospital outside of Philadelphia. Its extensive former grounds occupy the northern sections of Delaware County west of the city of Philadelphia, in Haverford Township. A residential development, Haverford Reserve, now occupies the former site of the asylum.

Meadowbrook Run (also known as Meadow Brook Creek) is a tributary of Ithan Creek in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is approximately 1.9 miles (3.1 km) long and flows through Radnor Township and Haverford Township.

Rolling Green Golf Club is a William Flynn designed golf course located in Springfield Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Founded to be a "golf club meant for golfers", Rolling Green has always proudly been a golf-only facility, without country club frivolities such as tennis or swimming. It opened for play in 1926. Rolling Green was ranked the 9th best golf course in Pennsylvania by Golf.com.

The Springfield Friends Meetinghouse is a Quaker meeting house that is located at 1001 Old Sproul Road in Springfield Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States.

The 1976 U.S. Women's Open was the 31st U.S. Women's Open, held July 8–12 at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania, a suburb west of Philadelphia. JoAnne Carner, the 1971 champion, won in a Monday playoff over defending champion Sandra Palmer by a score of 76 to 78. The two had tied at 292 (+8), four strokes ahead of Jane Blalock.

Cobble Court is a historic house originally commissioned by the distiller J. Hazeltine Carstairs, who owned 50 acres from Marple Rd. to Ardmore Ave. Originally named Spring Hill Farms, the house was built alongside the first hole of the Merion Golf Club west course in 1924. Sold to Henry Bryer, the owner of Bryers, a prominent ice cream manufacturer, who installed the cobblestone courtyard, and changed the name to "Cobble Court." In 1963 the Breyers estate was subdivided and the main house sold to Stuart Saunders of the Pennsylvania Railroad. After Carstairs, the home was purchased by Marian and Marvin Garfinkel. The house is on the local survey of historic buildings. The home was designed by John Russell Pope, an architect who is also credited with designing the Jefferson Memorial and the National Gallery of Art.
