Gmina Siechnice

Sulęcin (Polish pronunciation: [suˈlɛɲtɕin]; German: Saulwitz) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Siechnice, within Wrocław County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. Prior to 1945 it was in Germany. The village has a population of 116.

Siechnice [ɕɛxˈɲit͡sɛ] (formerly German: Tschechnitz, renamed Kraftborn in the Nazi era) is a town in Wrocław County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. It gained town status in 1997, and as of 2019 has a population of 8,113. Siechnice is part of the Wrocław metropolitan area. Siechnice lies approximately 13 kilometres (8 mi) south-east of the regional capital Wrocław, and since 1 January 2010 has been the seat of the gmina (administrative district) of Gmina Siechnice. Previously the district was called Gmina Święta Katarzyna, and Siechnice was the only town in Poland which neither gave its name to the gmina in which it lay nor served as its administrative seat. In Siechnice there is a coal power plant called "Czechnica". It is a part of power planting system which supplies Wrocław.

In 1945, in the village, the Germans ordered the first stop of the "death march" of several thousand prisoners from the subcamp in Miłoszyce to the Gross-Rosen concentration camp.There is a medieval conciliation cross in the village.

Święta Katarzyna (Polish: [ˈɕfjɛnta kataˈʐɨna], "Saint Catherine"; German: Kattern) is a village in Gmina Siechnice, Wrocław County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland.Before 1 January 2010, the district of Gmina Siechnice was called Gmina Święta Katarzyna, and Święta Katarzyna was its seat. (This was one of only two cases in Poland where a gmina contained a town but had its administrative seat in a village; the remaining one is Gmina Nowe Skalmierzyce.) The village had a population of 1,872 in 2006, rising to 2258 in 2015. It lies approximately 12 kilometres (7 mi) south-east of the regional capital Wrocław. It first appears in written records in 1257 as Santa Katherine. Buildings of interest include the fortified church of Saint Catherine, which dates to at least 1257, and has been rebuilt on several occasions, including in 1720 and after the Second World War. The church contains a picture of the Madonna of Częstochowa, and is considered a Marian shrine. The Wrocław eastern bypass runs through Święta Katarzyna, improving the village's transport links with the city.
