Rincon Island (California)

Mussel Shoals is a coastal unincorporated community in Ventura County, California, between Ventura and the Santa Barbara County city of Carpinteria. The community lies along U.S. Route 101 southeast of La Conchita and northwest of Faria. A one-lane causeway links the community with artificial Rincon Island. Until the 1930s, the area from Bates Road down to Mussel Shoals (then known as Mussel Rock) was referred to as La Conchita.

The Rincon Parkway is a portion of California State Route 1 along the north coast of Ventura County, California. This narrow coastal area north of the city of Ventura and south of the Santa Barbara County line is commonly referred to as The Rincon. The automobile route along this portion of coastline opened up in 1913 as the Rincon Causeway or the Rincon Sea Level Road as the first driveable coastal route for motorists traveling between San Francisco and Los Angeles, California. The access road alongside the railroad bed, that cut through the area in 1886, provided the basis for building the Rincon Sea Level Road.

The town of La Conchita, California, experienced major landslides in 1995 and 2005. The latter landslide killed 10 people, and destroyed or damaged dozens of houses. The 2005 landslide occurred on part of a previous landslide that occurred in 1995. The historic slides are part of the larger Rincon Mountain slide, which "started many thousands of years ago and will continue generating slides in the future."

La Conchita ( ; Spanish for "The Little Shell") is a small unincorporated community in western Ventura County, California, on U.S. Route 101 just southeast of the Santa Barbara county line. The ZIP Code is 93001, and the community is inside area code 805. On January 10, 2005, a major landslide occurred in La Conchita. The 2005 landslide killed 10 people, and destroyed or damaged dozens of houses. The landslide recurred on part of a previous landslide in 1995.

Sea Cliff or Seacliff is an unincorporated community in Ventura County, California, United States. The 11-acre (4.5 ha) shoreline group of homes is along U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1 (the Pacific Coast Highway), about 9 miles (14 km) northwest of Ventura.: 192  Known as Seacliff Beach Colony, the gated community contains 49 homes. In 1991, the community was evacuated for a week after a train derailment on the rail line between Los Angeles and San Francisco spilled hydrazine in the area. The homeowners reached an agreement in 2005 to purchase the property from the land company, Seacliff Land LLC. They were all previously leasing the land from Seacliff, which owned the property on which their homes were built.

Rincon Creek is a creek that marks the boundary between Santa Barbara and Ventura County, California. The Santa Barbara County - Ventura County Line follows Rincon Creek from near its source in the Santa Ynez Mountains near Divide Peak, at 34°28′36″N 119°26′29″W, down to its mouth on the Pacific Ocean, just east of the extremity of Rincon Point.Rincon Creek is also the boundary between the Central California Coastal water resource subregion and the Southern California Coastal water resource subregion, two of 222 subregions of the United States hydrologic unit system.

Rincon Point is a cape on the Santa Barbara Channel at the boundary between Santa Barbara County and Ventura County. This landmark is the site of the Rincon surf spot. A gated residential community occupies much of Rincon Point and straddles the countyline that roughly follows Rincon Creek down out of the Santa Ynez Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, just east of the extremity of Rincon Point.

Rancho El Rincon was a 4,460-acre (18.0 km2) Mexican land grant in present day Santa Barbara County and Ventura County, California given in 1835 by Governor José Figueroa to Teodoro Arellanes. "Rincon" means "corner" in Spanish. The grant extended along the Pacific coast at the Santa Barbara and Ventura County line and encompassed Rincon Point, Rincon State Beach and present day La Conchita.

Rincon (Spanish, "angle" or "corner") is a surf spot located at the Ventura and Santa Barbara County line in Southern California, United States. Also known as the "Queen of the Coast", Rincon is one of the most famous surf spots in California, known around the world for its well-formed waves and long rides. The book 100 Best Surf Spots in the World rates Rincon at 24. It is best at low tide during the winter months when swells are coming mostly from the west and northwest. There is a gated residential community that occupies most of the Rincon beachfront. Public access is provided at parking lots on both sides of the gated community, with restrooms and a picnic area in the upper parking lot, Rincon Beach Park.Rincon Point is home to the Rincon Classic surf championship scheduled for January each year. The championship draws local surf greats and spectators to the beach every year. Though scheduled for January, the event is often delayed until surf conditions merit a contest. Once these surf conditions are met the contest is held from Saturday through Sunday. There are multiple divisions ranging from the Legends (55+) to the gremlins (U12). There are nine divisions for the men, including the pro division, while there are 2 divisions for the women. The pro division mainly consists of local professional surfers including world surf league competitor Conner Coffin who competes in the contest almost every year. The contest is open to the public and local residents receive priority registration based on their county . During the contest local restaurants provide lunch for the competitors and also sell food to the public. These restaurants include Nutbelly and Rincon Brewery.

The Rincon Oil Field is a large oil field on the coast of southern California, about 10 miles (16 km) northwest of the city of Ventura, and about 20 miles (32 km) east-southeast of the city of Santa Barbara. It is the westernmost onshore field in a series of three fields which follow the Ventura Anticline, an east-west trending feature paralleling the Transverse Ranges. Discovered in 1927, the oil field is ranked 36th in California by size of recoverable oil reserves, and while mostly depleted – now having, by California Department of Conservation estimates, only about 2.5% of its original oil – it remains productive, with 77 wells active at the beginning of 2008. Oil produced in the field flows through the M-143 pipeline, which parallels U.S. Highway 101 southeast to the Ventura Pump Station, at which point it joins a Tosco pipeline which carries it to Los Angeles area refineries. As of 2009, the primary operators of the field were Occidental Petroleum for the onshore portion, and Greka Energy for the offshore portion. The offshore part of the field is operated mainly from Rincon Island.

Faria, also known as Faria Beach, is an unincorporated community in Ventura County, California, United States. Faria runs 1.32 miles (2.12 km) along the ocean side of California State Route 1, 9 miles (14 km) northwest of Ventura between Ventura and Carpinteria. It is within the Ventura Unified School District and has a Ventura ZIP Code.

Cate School is a highly selective, coeducational university-preparatory school for boarding and day students in grades 9-12 located in Carpinteria, California, eleven miles from Santa Barbara. In 2012, the school had 270 students, who came from 31 states and 18 foreign countries. In 2022, Niche ranked Cate School the best boarding school in California and the 13th-best in the United States.
