Altoona Area High School (AAHS) is the public high school for the Altoona Area School District in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The high school serves the communities of Altoona, Logan Township, and a small portion of Tyrone Township.The school district is the eighteenth largest in the state, and the high school is one of the largest and best known in the state. Altoona Area High School (AAHS) teaches grades 9 through 12.

Altoona Works (also known as Altoona Terminal) is a large railroad industrial complex in Altoona, Pennsylvania. It was built between 1850 and 1925 by the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR), to supply the railroad with locomotives, railroad cars and related equipment. For many years, it was the largest railroad shop complex in the world.

The Logan House Hotel was a historic hotel located in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The hotel was in operation from the 1850s to the 1920s, when it was demolished.

The Railroaders Memorial Museum (RMM) is a railroad museum in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The museum focuses on the history of railroad workers and railroad communities in central Pennsylvania, particularly Altoona, the Altoona Works, and the greater Pittsburgh area. Since 1998, the museum has been located in the Master Mechanics Building, built by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1882. The museum also operates a separate museum, visitor center, and observation area at the Horseshoe Curve.

The Loyal War Governors' Conference was an important political event of the American Civil War. It was held at the Logan House Hotel in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on September 24 and 25, 1862. Thirteen governors of Union states came together to discuss the war effort, state troop quotas, and the ultimate support of President Abraham Lincoln and his Emancipation Proclamation. The leaders also suggested the removal of General George B. McClellan as commander of the Army of the Potomac. The meeting was established and hosted by Pennsylvania Governor Andrew Gregg Curtin, who was a staunch defender of the war effort and Lincoln Administration policies. Ultimately, the event provided Lincoln much-needed support from the Northern states.

Central Trust Company Buildings are two historic commercial buildings located at Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania. They are two five-story buildings connected by a stair and elevator tower. The buildings measure 130 by 120 feet (40 by 37 m). The Central Trust Company Building was built in 1905 and is a white glazed brick building with brownstone trim in the Beaux Arts style. The entry features two Ionic order engaged granite columns. The adjoining Brett Building was built between 1922 and 1924.The buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and are located in the Downtown Altoona Historic District.

The Altoona Transportation Center is an intermodal passenger facility in downtown Altoona, Pennsylvania. It is served by the daily Amtrak Pennsylvanian, Greyhound Lines intercity buses, and AMTRAN local bus service (for which is serves as the hub). The station was built in 1986, replacing a temporary station, which had in turn replaced the 1887-built Pennsylvania Railroad station in 1972.

The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art (SAMA) is an art museum with five locations in southwestern Pennsylvania in the United States. It is headquartered at Saint Francis University in Loretto, where it was founded in 1976. Other locations were opened later in Hollidaysburg (1979) which moved to Altoona (1995), Johnstown (1982), Ligonier (1997) and Bedford (2018).Starting with a collection of about 100 objects, the museum's permanent collection now features more than 5,000 works by local, regional, national and international artists. The national artists include, among others, Will Barnet, William Baziotes, Albert Bierstadt, Mary Cassatt, Arny Karl, Walt Kuhn, Theodore Lukits, Thomas Moran, Gilbert Stuart, Thomas Sully, and Pittsburgh native Andy Warhol. Some of the local and regional artists are Ron Donoughe, George Hetzel, and William H. Rau.The museum is a repository for several distinctive special collections such as the Charles M. Schwab Collection of Presentation Silver and Other Memorabilia, the Colleen Browning Collection, and the Rezk Collection of Tibetan and Nepalese art.The Johnstown site is located in the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. The Ligonier site includes rotating displays from the "Walter Carlyle Shaw Paperweight Collection".

The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament is a Roman Catholic cathedral located at One Cathedral Square in Altoona, Pennsylvania. It is within the boundaries of the Downtown Altoona Historic District, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. It is the mother church of the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown and is the seat of its bishop, the Most Reverend Mark Leonard Bartchak. The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament Pastor is Rev. Monsignor Stanley B. Carson, Administrator.

The Penn Alto Building is a landmark building located in downtown Altoona, Pennsylvania, United States. The building is nine stories high and has a partial tenth floor penthouse. The name of the building remains the same, even though its usage has changed over time. The name changed from the Penn Alto Hotel to Penn Alto Apartments when it changed from strictly being a hotel to a residential hotel, which rents both apartments and hotel rooms. The current name is City Hall Commons, deriving its name from its proximity to City Hall, which is just across the street. The building was designed by the H.L. Stevens & Company and constructed in 1921 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. It is in the Downtown Altoona Historic District. Official measurements of the building conflict with each other. One measurement is as conservative as 98 feet (30 m), while another lists it as 115 feet (35 m). These variations may be due to the slight incline that the Penn Alto was built on.

Altoona Alliance Church is a church associated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance located in Altoona, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1891 by Rev. Frederick Senft, who would one day go on to become president of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Over the 119 years of its existence the Altoona Alliance Church has had 26 pastors and has been located in at least 17 different locations throughout the city. Currently the Altoona Alliance Church is led by Rev. Tim McGarvey, who graduated from Toccoa Falls College with a B.A. in Pastoral Ministries.
