Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve is a 134-acre (0.5 km2) protected area for flora, fauna, and wildlife in Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania, a Pittsburgh suburb. The site has served as the headquarters of the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania (ASWP) since 1977. The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy owns the land on which Beechwood Farms is located, and leases the site to the ASWP. The nature reserve comprises woodlands, fields, streams, and a pond. It also features more than 5 miles (8.0 km) of walking trails—open from dawn to dusk every day year-round, some of which are accessible for individuals with special needs.

Hartwood Acres is a 629-acre (255 ha) county park in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania in the United States. Hartwood is considered the crown jewel of the county's 12,000-acre (4,900 ha) network of nine distinct parks. Purchased by the county in 1969, its special feature is one of the largest and most spectacular country estates in the region. Hartwood consists of a stately Tudor mansion (begun in 1927 and completed in 1929), an English style Formal Garden, a cottage, a stable complex, and a gate lodge (erected in 1927). The mansion, designed by Alfred Hopkins for John and Mary Flinn Lawrence, houses a collection of original English and American antiques. Hartwood is sited 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Downtown Pittsburgh on largely forested land in both Hampton and Indiana townships. The park also offers a large-stage concert area where the Free Summer Concert Series is held, as well as the Allegheny County Music Festival, and 30 miles (48 km) of trails—horse riding, walking, hiking, biking, and cross country skiing. Hartwood is especially well-known because of its now-defunct "Festival of Lights," a large outdoor light display once held during the holiday season to benefit local charities.

Fox Chapel Country Day School became Shady Side Academy's second elementary campus in 2017 after a merger between the two institutions. Previously known as Fox Chapel Country Day School, the school was renamed Shady Side Academy Country Day School in Fox Chapel beginning with the 2017–2018 school year. Founded in 1948 as Fox Chapel Country Day School (FCCDS), the school began with 18 children in a nursery school class, housed on the third floor of Fox Chapel Community Church (now Christ Church Fox Chapel). In the 1950s, the search began for a permanent location for the school, and a grade level was added each year to grow the school through fifth grade. In 1960, Richard K. Whiteman was appointed head of school, a tenure that would last for 40 years. In 1970, FCCDS became accredited by the Pennsylvania Association of Private Academic Schools (PAPAS). While continuing to share space with the church, the school reconfigured the facilities to suit its needs. In 1999, a major addition to join two buildings and create a new space for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms was completed. The playground was replaced in 2011. Country Day's campus is less than a mile down the road from SSA Middle School, and it overlooks the SSA Senior School athletic complex across the road. Merger between Fox Chapel Country Day School and Shady Side Academy occurred in 2017.

The Jonathon Hulton Bridge, built in 1908, was the first major bridge designed by Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Spanning the Allegheny River, it connected the eastern Pittsburgh suburbs of Oakmont and Harmarville, Pennsylvania. The bridge was demolished successfully with explosives at 9:49 a.m. on January 26, 2016.
