Spadina station

Tartu College is a not for profit student residence on the north side of Bloor Street West, just east of Madison Avenue, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Most of its residents are students of the University of Toronto. Tartu College was built in 1970, two years after its sister building, the David A. Croll Apartments (originally Rochdale College), was built a block away on the opposite side of the street in 1968. Both buildings were designed by architects Elmar Tampõld and John Wells (who had earlier constructed the Charles Street apartments at Bay Street and Bloor Street). Like the Rochdale building, it is an example of brutalist architectural principles, and serves as a nostalgic reminder of the 1960s culture during which both buildings emerged. It was named after the city of Tartu, Estonia, and was originally built as an undergraduate student co-op with a library, archive, and study centre serving the Estonian-Canadian community.

University of Toronto Schools (UTS) is an independent secondary day school affiliated with the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The school follows a specialized academic curriculum, and admission is determined by competitive examination. UTS is associated with two Nobel Prize Laureates.

Bloor Street United Church is a United Church of Canada church in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located downtown near the intersection with Huron Street. It is just north of the University of Toronto, and between the Spadina and St. George subway stations. As with many of the downtown Toronto churches, Bloor United is noted for its progressivism. Three Bloor Street ministers have become Moderator of the United Church of Canada – George C. Pidgeon, Ernest M. Howse, and Bruce McLeod. Robert Baird McClure was also Moderator 1968–1971 and a member of this congregation though a layman and not its minister. The Affirming congregation is led by Rev. Dr. Russ Daye, with Rev. Dr. Martha ter Kuile as part-time minister and minister of pastoral care. The church has a large choir and a strong music program led by David Passmore. The congregation has a strong commitment to helping refugees, and has a program devoted to helping Latin American refugees become permanent members of Canadian society. In addition, there are groups dedicated to helping grandmothers caring for AIDS orphans in Africa. The children's program includes Sunday school classes for ages 4–18, and a youth and young adult discussion group. There are also online book clubs, Sunday school, free English classes, and chair yoga. Due to COVID-19, the congregation is offering worship services and events on Zoom as well as in-person. The Bloor Street building is currently undergoing redevelopment so for the time being the congregation is worshiping with St. Matthew's United Church at 729 St. Clair Avenue West.

City Shul is a Reform synagogue in downtown Toronto, founded in October 2012 and led by Rabbi Elyse Goldstein. The congregation meets at 300 Bloor Street West, in the same building as Bloor Street United Church. Until September 2017, meetings were held at the Wolfond Centre for Jewish Campus Life, near the St George campus of the University of Toronto. City Shul was founded to serve the growing Jewish population in downtown Toronto. It is part of the Downtown Jewish Community Council of Toronto.City Shul is noted for its diverse population, and includes members who are visible minorities, LGBT, Jews-by-choice and those who are exploring Judaism. The Shul also includes members who were raised in different Jewish traditions, such as Ashkenazi or Sephardi Jews, and those who come from a variety of Jewish religious movements including Orthodox, Conservative, and Reconstructionist. City Shul accepts non-Jews as voting members, with the requirement that members of the Leadership Team be Jewish (by birth or conversion). Services at City Shul are fully egalitarian; men and women participate equally. The service is conducted primarily in Hebrew and the shul uses Gates of Prayer, the Reform Prayerbook; transliterations are provided.City Shul was formally accepted as a member of the Union for Reform Judaism in December 2013.

Trinity-St. Paul's United Church and Centre for Faith, Justice and the Arts is a church belonging to the United Church of Canada in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located at 427 Bloor Street West, just west of Spadina Avenue in the city's downtown core. The church is formed of a mix of three different former congregations and houses a fourth independent congregation within its building. Today, Trinity-St. Paul's has a reputation for being an activist church on a number of social justice issues. The church has strongly advocated for same-sex marriage, fair trade and improved conditions for the homeless. Former United Church moderator and noted activist Bill Phipps was minister from 1974 to 1983. Cheri DiNovo, a former Ontario New Democratic Party politician, became minister effective February 4, 2018.

The Annex is a neighbourhood in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The traditional boundaries of the neighbourhood are north to Dupont Street, south to Bloor Street, west to Bathurst Street and east to Avenue Road. The City of Toronto recognizes a broader neighbourhood definition that includes the adjacent Seaton Village and Yorkville areas.Bordering the University of Toronto, the Annex has long been a student quarter, and it is also home to many fraternity houses and members of the university's faculty. Its residents are predominantly English-speaking and well-educated. According to Canada 2011 Census, the neighbourhood has an average income of $66,742.67, significantly above the average income in the Toronto census metropolitan area. The Annex is not known for its big population of immigrants – in 2011, Statistics Canada declared that there were about 4,665 immigrants (predominantly from the United Kingdom and the United States) living in the area. As of the 2021 census, the three census tracts that compose the Annex have a total population of 14,149 and an average population density of 9,685 people/km².

The Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study (JICS) is a research institute and laboratory school of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. The institute comprises a graduate education centre with a 2-year master of arts program, an elementary school for children from nursery to 6th grade, and a multidisciplinary research centre in child development.

Rochdale College was an experiment in student-run alternative education and co-operative living in Toronto, Canada from 1968 to 1975. It provided space for 840 residents in a co-operative living space. It was also an informal, noncredited free university where students and teachers would live together and share knowledge. The project ultimately failed when it could not cover its financing and neighbours complained that it had become a haven for drugs and crime.

Walmer Road Baptist Church is a church in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1889, it is located at 188 Lowther Avenue at Walmer Road, in The Annex neighbourhood.

The Brunswick House, known colloquially as the "Brunny" and sometimes advertised as "Ye Olde Brunswick House", was a well known pub in the Toronto neighbourhood The Annex. At its closure in 2016, the Brunswick House was one of the oldest such establishments still in operation in Toronto, as it was founded in 1876. Located at Bloor Street and Brunswick, the Brunny served different clientele over the years.

The Bata Shoe Museum (BSM) is a museum of footwear and calceology in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The museum's building is situated near the northwest of the University of Toronto's St. George campus, in downtown Toronto. The 3,665-square-metre (39,450 sq ft) museum building was designed by Moriyama & Teshima Architects, with Raymond Moriyama as the lead architect. The museum's collection of footwear originated from the personal collections of Sonja Bata, started in the mid-1940s. In 1979, Bata provided an endowment to create the Bata Shoe Museum Foundation, with the aim of having the collection professionally managed, and to establish a shoe museum to house, store, and exhibit the collection. The foundation exhibited the collection to the public for the first time in 1992, although it did not open a permanent facility for its museum until May 1995. The museum's permanent collection includes over 13,000 shoes, and other footwear related items dating back 4,500 years; providing the museum with the largest collection of footwear in the world. Items in the museum's collection are either held in storage, or placed on display in its permanent exhibition. The museum also hosts and organizes a number of temporary and travelling exhibitions, and outreach programs.

St Thomas's Church, Huron Street is a parish of the Anglican Church of Canada in Toronto, Ontario. One of the earliest Anglo-Catholic congregations in Canada, it was established in 1874, moving twice before settling into its present building, adjacent to the Annex on the western edge of the University of Toronto's downtown campus. The liturgy and music at St Thomas's make it a "destination" church. Many people who do not live within the boundaries of the parish attend services.
