River Slaney

The Ballast Bank, situated in Wexford Harbour, Ireland, is a man made structure, built in 1832.

Wexford (Irish: Loch Garman) is the county town of County Wexford, Ireland. Wexford lies on the south side of Wexford Harbour, the estuary of the River Slaney near the southeastern corner of the island of Ireland. The town is linked to Dublin by the M11/N11 National Primary Route; and to Rosslare Europort, Cork and Waterford by the N25. The national rail network connects it to Dublin and Rosslare Europort. It had a population of 21,524 according to the 2022 census.

The Sack of Wexford took place from 2 to 11 October 1649, during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland, part of the 1641–1653 Irish Confederate Wars. English Commonwealth forces under Oliver Cromwell stormed the town after negotiations broke down, killing most of the Irish Confederate and Royalist garrison. Many civilians also died, either during the sack, or drowned attempting to escape across the River Slaney.

The siege of Wexford took place in early May 1169 and was the first major clash of the Norman invasion of Ireland. The town was besieged by a combined force of Normans under Robert Fitz-Stephen and soldiers loyal to Diarmait mac Murchadha. After being ousted as King of Leinster, Diarmait had recruited the Normans to help him regain control of Leinster and the semi-independent Norse-Gaelic seaport of Wexford. Although the attackers did not breach the town's walls, Wexford surrendered after almost two days and came under Norman control.

St. Doologe's (Irish: Paróiste Dúlóg), also St. Doologue's, and formerly St. Tullogue's, or St. Euleck's, is a civil parish in the centre of Wexford town in Ireland.

Wexford Bridge is a road bridge in Wexford, the county town of County Wexford in Ireland. It crosses the mouth of the River Slaney from Wexford town on the west bank to Ferrybank on the east bank. It carries the R741 road from Wexford towards Dublin and the north. The bridge consists of 7 spans of maximum length 63 metres and 12 metres wide, made of continuous steel girders carrying composite concrete slabs. Including the approach roads, the total length of the bridge is 590 metres, of which 380 metres are over water. The current bridge, the third to be built, was originally opened on 10 September 1959 but by the 1990s was suffering from severe corrosion. In 1997, therefore, over a 10-week period, the whole superstructure was broken up, the piers and abutments reconstructed, and the roadway replaced by composite concrete slabs.

Ferrybank is a townland near Wexford, in County Wexford, Ireland. Located to the north of Wexford Town, by the mouth of River Slaney and Wexford Harbour, it is linked to the town by Wexford Bridge. Prior to the construction of the first Wexford Bridge in the late 18th century, the townland of Ferrybank South was a landing-point for ferryboats crossing the River Slaney from Wexford Town. In the early 20th century, Ferrybank was the site of a U.S. Naval Air Station Wexford. It operated during World War I from 2 March 1918 until 15 February 1919.

U.S. Naval Air Station Wexford was a seaplane station at Ferrybank, Wexford, Ireland which was operated by the United States Navy (USN) and commissioned on 2 May 1918. Its mission was to operate Curtiss H-16 anti-submarine patrols (ASW) to counter German submarine attacks on shipping in the area east of Queenstown. The Commanding Officer LCDR Victor D. Herbster reported on station on 28 March 1918.

St. Iberius' Church ( eye-BEER-ee-əs) is an 18th-century Protestant church in the centre of Wexford, Ireland, dedicated to Saint Ibar of Beggerin (Iberius). Designed by John Roberts, the interior is Georgian in style, while the exterior is Renaissance Revival. It is a protected structure.

The Theatre Royal, was an opera house and performance venue in Wexford Ireland which opened in 1832 and closed in 2005. It was the home of the annual Wexford Festival Opera, and has now been replaced by The National Opera House.

Wexford Festival Opera (Irish: Féile Ceoldráma Loch Garman) is an opera festival that takes place in the town of Wexford in south-eastern Ireland during the months of October and November. The festival began in 1951 under Tom Walsh and a group of opera lovers who quickly generated considerable interest by programming unusual and rare works, a typical festival staging three operas. This concept has been maintained over the company's history under the direction of seven different artistic directors. From the beginning, the company embraced new and upcoming young singers, many of whom were Irish, but it also included new international names who made first appearances there. By the 1960s Czech and Russian operas entered the repertory, while the 1970s saw an interest in the operas of Jules Massenet under director Thomson Smillie, followed by an emphasis on Italian operas from the end of that decade. However, into the mix there appeared more modern operas by Benjamin Britten and Carlisle Floyd while Elaine Padmore's 12-year tenure resulted in more international singers making first appearances and the beginnings of commercial recordings and radio broadcasts. David Agler, the artistic director since 2005, oversaw the creation of a new opera house with enhanced facilities on the site of the original theatre.

Wexford Lifeboat Station is the base for a Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) inshore lifeboat at Wexford in Ireland. The first lifeboat for Wexford Harbour was at Rosslare Fort Lifeboat Station from 1838. A second, larger lifeboat for Wexford was stationed here from 1858 although the smaller lifeboat continued to be known as the Rosslare Fort lifeboat until 1866. The station at Rosslare Fort was closed in 1925 due to coastal erosion, the lifeboat operating from Wexford Quay until 1927 when the station was closed. The RNLI returned to Wexford in 2002 and opened the current station in 2007.
