Martins Ferry, Ohio

The Central School was a school building in Martins Ferry, Ohio, United States. Located at the corner of South 4th and Hickory Streets, the school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 23, 1979. It is no longer on the Register: the designation was removed on February 21, 1980, less than a year after it was added. Designed by Benjamin Exley and C.H. Owsley, it was built in 1897 in the Richardsonian Romanesque style of architecture.The building was demolished to make room for the Citizens National Bank, the current owners.

Martins Ferry High School is a public high school in Martins Ferry, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Martins Ferry City School District. Athletic teams compete as the Martins Ferry Purple Riders in the Ohio High School Athletic Association as a member of the Buckeye 8 Athletic League as well as the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference. The Martins Ferry City School District has median household income of $23,960, thus making the school eligible for a Title I program, including access to state and federal assistance to help low-income and at risk students. The head school administrator, Joe Mamone, oversees the school's staff, including thirty full-time "equivalent" teachers serving the student body with an average class size of 17.8. The majority of students enrolled are White, making up about eighty-three percent of all students.

Mt. Woods Cemetery, also known as Mt. Wood Cemetery, Hebrew and Jewish Orthodox Cemetery and Eoff Street Temple Cemetery, is a historic rural cemetery located at Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

Pease Township is one of sixteen townships of Belmont County, Ohio, United States. The 2020 census counted 12,849 people living in the township.

The Aetnaville Bridge is a through truss bridge spanning the back channel of the Ohio River between Bridgeport, Ohio and Wheeling, West Virginia. The bridge was built in December 1891 and used for vehicular traffic until December 1988, when it was closed to cars due to safety concerns. The structure was used by pedestrians until its complete closure in 2016. During the late 1800's and early 1900's, the bridge was used for streetcars until service ceased in 1937. The bridge is now used mostly as a way for pedestrians, bicyclists, and joggers, to cross without having to go all the way around to the new Bridgeport Bridge. The bridge was closed from October 19 to 23, 2015, to be evaluated for safety. Local residents are fighting to save this bridge, because it is a popular pedestrian footwalk, and part of a proposed bicycle and jogging trail. As of January 20, 2016, there have been metal fences barricading the bridge pending further decision-making as to how to proceed with possible repairs .

North Wheeling Historic District is a national historic district located at Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. The district encompasses 134 contributing buildings and one contributing object in a 2 1/2-block section of northern Wheeling, known as "Old Town". Most of the district consists of mid- to late-19th-century residential buildings. A number of popular architectural styles are represented, including Greek Revival, Italianate, and Late Victorian. Notable buildings include the Vigilant Engine House (c. 1891), William Goering House (1885), Alfred Paull House (1880s), Williams Duplex Tenement (1880–1884), George W. Eckhart House (1891–1892), Christian Hess House (1876), Edward Hazlett House (1893), Henry K. List House (1858). The object is the Pollack Memorial Monument (1916).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, with boundary increases in 2008 and 2022.

The Henry K. List House, also known as the Wheeling-Moundsville Chapter of the American Red Cross, is a historic home located at 827 Main Street in Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. It was built in 1858, and consists of a two-story square main block with an offset two-story rear wing. The brick mansion features a low-pitched hipped roof with a balustraded square cupola. It has Renaissance Revival and Italianate design details. The building was once occupied by the Ohio Valley Red Cross.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The Wheeling Tunnel is a set of twin tunnels named for and located in Wheeling, West Virginia. The tunnels are 0.27 miles (430 m) long each, cutting through Wheeling Hill, and each carries two lanes of Interstate 70 and U.S. Route 250. The tunnels originally took three years to construct, costing $6.9 million. Reconstruction of the tunnel, originally planned to take a total of 6 months, took over three years to complete between 2007 and 2010, at a cost of $13.7 million.

The Fort Henry Bridge is a crossing of the Ohio River main channel in Wheeling, West Virginia. The tied-arch bridge carries two lanes in each direction of Interstate 70 (I-70), U.S. Route 40 (US 40), and US 250. The bridge opened after four years of construction work on September 8, 1955, costing $6.8 million, $1.8 million over budget. The bridge, along with the aging Wheeling Suspension Bridge, are the only two road links from Wheeling Island to downtown Wheeling. In 2009, the structure carried an average of over 60,000 vehicles per day.

Lincoln High School, originally Lincoln School, was a segregated school for African Americans in Wheeling, West Virginia (Ohio County, West Virginia). It opened after the American Civil War in 1866 and closed in 1954 with desegregation. After 1900 it included a high school. It was where African American children of Ohio County, West Virginia and Marshall County, West Virginia could send their children to public school. Dr. Hupp and John Jackson founded it in 1866. It opened in a two-room building on Twelfth Street in Wheeling. Its most recent school building opened on Chapline Street in 1943. The Ohio County Public Library posted photos from the school's history including images from the school's programs. Flem B. Jones served as principal and appealed for facilities and staffing.

Robert C. Woods House, also known as the Jacob S. Rhodes House, is a historic home located at Wheeling in Ohio County, West Virginia, United States. It was built between 1839 and 1845, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, 13-room brick dwelling, with an Italianate-style facade. It measures 32 feet by 90 feet, with a front block 45 feet deep and rear wing of 45 feet. The front facade features curved cast-iron lintels.Home to some of Wheeling's more prominent past business leaders,: 2  it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 2, 1991. This building now serves as a clubhouse for the West Virginia Snakes Club.: 2 

Wheeling Island Historic District is a national historic district located on Wheeling Island in Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. The district includes 1,110 contributing buildings, 5 contributing sites, 2 contributing structures, and 3 contributing objects. It is a largely residential district consisting of two-story, frame detached dwellings built in the mid- to late-19th and early-20th century, including the Irwin-Brues House (1853) and a number of houses on Zane Street. The houses are representative of a number of popular architectural styles including Bungalow, Italianate, Queen Anne, and Colonial Revival. Notable non-residential contributing properties include the Exposition Building (1924), Thompson United Methodist Church (1913-1915), Madison School (1916), firehouse (1930-1931), the Bridgeport Bridge (1893), the Aetnaville Bridge (1891), "The Marina," Wheeling Island Baseball Park, and "Belle Island Park." It includes the separately listed Wheeling Suspension Bridge, Harry C. and Jessie F. Franzheim House, and John McLure House.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
