Boundary Field

Griffith Stadium stood in Washington, D.C., from 1911 to 1965, between Georgia Avenue and 5th Street (left field), and between W Street and Florida Avenue NW. The site was once home to a wooden baseball park. Built in 1891, it was called Boundary Field, or National Park after the team that played there: the Washington Senators/Nationals. It was destroyed by a fire in 1911. It was replaced by a steel and concrete structure, at first called National Park and then American League Park; it was renamed for Washington Senators owner Clark Griffith in 1923. The stadium was home to the American League Senators from 1911 through 1960, and to an expansion team of the same name for their first season in 1961. The venue hosted the All-Star Game in 1937 and 1956 and World Series games in 1924, 1925, and 1933. It served as home for the Negro league Homestead Grays during the 1940s, when it hosted the 1943 and 1944 Negro World Series. It was home to the Washington Redskins of the National Football League for 24 seasons, from the time they transferred from Boston in 1937 through the 1960 season. The ballpark was demolished in 1965; the site is now occupied by Howard University Hospital.

The Howard University College of Medicine (HUCM) is an academic division of Howard University that grants the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Ph.D., M.S., and the M.PH. HUCM is located at the Howard University Health Sciences Center in Washington, D.C., and it was founded in 1868 in response to the growing population of the city. With more than 4,000 living alumni, the college has produced a sizeable share of the African-American physicians practicing in the United States. The mission of the college includes improving health care through training programs and initiatives, discovering knowledge through research, and supporting the education and training of postgraduate physicians, other healthcare providers, and graduate students in biomedical sciences. Many of the college students gain professional experience at Howard University Hospital, the primary teaching hospital for the school.

The New Freedmen's Clinic (first opened in the summer of 2009) is a free student-run health care clinic affiliated with Howard University Hospital (HUH) and Howard University College of Medicine (HUCM). It gets its name from HUH's original name - Freedmen's Hospital. It is currently located in the heart of Washington, DC, within HUH.

The 1942 NFL Championship Game was the tenth title game of the National Football League (NFL), played at Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C. on December 13, with a sellout capacity attendance of 36,006.It matched the undefeated Western Division champion Chicago Bears (11–0) and the Eastern Division champion Washington Redskins (10–1). The Bears were co-coached by Hunk Anderson and Luke Johnsos (after George Halas had entered the U.S. Navy) and led on the field by quarterback Sid Luckman. The Redskins were led by head coach Ray Flaherty and quarterback Sammy Baugh. Chicago had won easily in the summer exhibition game with Washington, but the teams had not met during the 1942 regular season. The Bears were aiming for their third consecutive league title and were favored by three touchdowns, but were upset 14–6 by the home underdog Redskins.Tickets were sold out three weeks in advance, and some were being resold for up to fifty dollars.This was the second and final NFL title game played at Griffith Stadium and in the city of Washington. The two teams met on the same site two years earlier with a very different result, as the visiting Bears won in a 73–0 rout.

It was played at Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C. on December 8, with a sellout capacity attendance of 36,034.The Chicago Bears (8–3) of the Western Division met the Washington Redskins (9–2), champions of the Eastern Division. Neither team had played in the title game since 1937, when the Redskins won a close game at Chicago's Wrigley Field. For this game in Washington, the Bears entered as slight favorites.The Bears scored eleven touchdowns and won 73–0, the most one-sided victory in NFL history. The game was broadcast on radio by Mutual Broadcasting System, the first NFL title game broadcast nationwide.

Howard University Hospital, previously known as Freedmen's Hospital, is a major hospital located in Washington, D.C., built on the site of the previous Griffith Stadium. The hospital has served the African-American community in the area for over 150 years, having been established in 1862 to cater for the medical needs of the thousands of African Americans who came to Washington during the Civil War, seeking their freedom. The first hospital of its kind to provide medical treatment for former slaves, it later became the major hospital for the area's African American community.

The Moorland–Spingarn Research Center (MSRC) in Washington, D.C., is located on the campus of Howard University on the first and ground floors of Founders Library. The MSRC is recognized as one of the world's largest and most comprehensive repositories for the documentation of the history and culture of people of African descent in Africa, the Americas, and other parts of the world. As one of Howard University's major research facilities, the MSRC collects, preserves, organizes and makes available for research a wide range of resources chronicling the Black experience. Thus, it maintains a tradition of service which dates to the formative years of Howard University, when materials related to Africa and African Americans were first acquired.

Florida Avenue Baptist Church is located at 623 Florida Avenue N.W., Washington, DC 20001 in the neighborhood of LeDroit Park near Howard University, and adjacent to the historic Howard Theatre. The Reverend Dr. Earl D. Trent, Jr. currently serves as the church's Senior Pastor.

Howard University College of Dentistry is a school of dentistry located in the United States city of Washington, D.C. It is the only dental school in Washington, D.C..

Pleasant Hill is a neighborhood located in Ward 5 of Northeast Washington, D.C. Pleasant Hill is contained between Allison Street NE and Bates Road NE to the north, Taylor Street NE to the south, the Washington Metropolitan Area Red Line tracks to the east, and North Capitol Street NW to the west. Pleasant Hill borders the adjacent neighborhoods of Fort Totten (north), North Michigan Park (northeast), Michigan Park (east), University Heights (south), Petworth (west), Brightwood Park (northwest), and Park View (southwest). It is adjacent to the Catholic University of America and even houses its athletic facilities. Pleasant Hill houses the Catholic University of America's soccer and football fields as well as its Raymond A. DuFour Athletic Center. Pleasant Hill also borders the Fort Totten Park and Fort Totten Waste Disposal Facility on its northern end. Pleasant Hill also features direct access to the Washington Metropolitan Branch Red Line trail as well. The Pleasant Hill neighborhood is also located within very close proximity to Providence Hospital in the adjacent Michigan Park neighborhood, as well as the Armed Soldiers Retirement Home, Washington D.C. Veterans Affairs Medical Center, MedStar Washington Hospital Center, and Children's National Main Hospital in the adjacent Park View neighborhood. In terms of educational institutions and academies, the Pleasant Hill neighborhood houses the Washington Yu Ying Charter School and the Kirov Academy of Ballet of Washington D.C. Residents of the Pleasant Hill neighborhood also have convenient access to the Archbishop Carroll Catholic High School in the adjacent University Heights neighborhood. In terms of housing, Pleasant Hill generally features medium-sized brick homes constructed between the 1930s to the 1950s and contains several apartment complex, which notably are the Hawaiian Gardens apartments, Clemont Apartments, Pleasant Hills Village Apartments, and Brookland Ridge Apartments. In terms of commerce, the Pleasant Hill contains the Heights Shopping center strip mall, which consists of a Subway Sandwich Fast Food Restaurant, 7- Eleven Convenience Store, University Wine & Spirits Liquor Store, Changing Faces Barbershop & Salon, Heights Seafood Shop, Domino's Pizza Store, and DSI Financial Planning Shop. In terms of transportation, residents of the Pleasant Hill neighborhood have access to a Metrorail stations at Fort Totten, Brookland-CUA, and Georgia Avenue - Petworth Metro Stations. In addition to these three Metro Station, residents of Pleasant Hill also have access to Metrobus Service as well.

Florida Avenue is a major street in Washington, D.C. It was originally named Boundary Street, because it formed the northern boundary of the Federal City under the 1791 L'Enfant Plan. With the growth of the city beyond its original borders, Boundary Street was renamed Florida Avenue in 1890.

The Southern Aid Society Building–Dunbar Theater is an historic structure located in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The building was designed by architect Isaiah T. Hatton. Reginald W. Geare designed the theater portion of the building. It was completed in 1921. It has been listed on the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites since 1984 and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It is a contributing property in the Greater U Street Historic District.
