Voorheesville, New York

New Scotland is a town in Albany County, New York, United States. The population was 9,096 at the 2020 census. The town is southwest of Albany, New York, the state capital. New Scotland is centrally located in the county.

Presbyterian Church in New Scotland and the New Scotland Cemetery is a historic Presbyterian church and cemetery located in New Scotland in Albany County, New York. The church was built in 1849 and extended in 1868. It is a 2-story, three-bay-wide, rectangular frame structure with a 1+1⁄2-story front projecting vestibule / entrance block. It features a large, two-stage square central projecting tower. The education wing was completed in 1957. The cemetery includes about 500 burials dating from the 18th to 20th century. The congregation was founded in 1787 and the present structure is its second building.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

Clayton A. Bouton High School is a public high school located in Voorheesville, Albany County, New York, U.S.A., and is the only high school operated by the Voorheesville Central School District. Athletics at Voorheesville high school include boys and girls tennis, cross country, soccer, track, basketball, swimming (teamed together with neighboring Guilderland High School), and volleyball. Single sex sports include softball, baseball, and football. Co-ed sports are cheerleading, wrestling, bowling, and golf. Their mascot is the Blackbird and they claim three NYSPHSAA titles with Boys Soccer in 1990, and Girls Basketball in 1998 and 2002. In the 2002-2003 school year a brand new gymnasium was opened that seats roughly 500 with the unique aspect of bleachers only on the south side of the gymnasium. That fall also saw brand new soccer and football fields opened along with the school's first running track. The football field was dedicated to former coach and player Tom Buckley who died in the mid-1980s. Just a quarter mile down Route 85 A lie additional practice soccer fields as well as another baseball field, collectively known as the satellite fields. Voorheesville's student body is very active in supporting its teams despite its relatively small numbers. The 2014-2015 Voorheesville Football team went undefeated for the first time in 48 years in the regular season. The "Birdcage" is often found at boys basketball games loudly supporting the team. Voorheesville competes in Classes B, CC, C, and D depending on the sport. Clayton A. Bouton offers a variety of clubs and activities including Model United Nations, Ski Club, Mock Trial, SADD, National History Club, Student Government, Torch (yearbook), The Helderbarker (school newspaper), Builders Club (affiliated with the New Scotland Kiwanis), Speech and Debate Club, Dungeons and Dragons Club, and National Honor Society. The fine arts department has been widely recognized, with NYSSMA award winning band and chorus groups. The school also boasts a strong tradition in Drama Club; the Voorheesville Dionysians present a musical in the spring. In 2022, the Drama Club's performance was nominated by Proctor's Theatre in Schenectady for Best High School Musical. Famous alumnae include actress Yvonne Perry, Joe Kraemer (composer) and pop singer Nikki Cleary.

Norman Vale, also known as the Nott House, is a historic home located at Guilderland in Albany County, New York. It is a three-part home comprising a 2+1⁄2-story center section with a steeply pitched roof, flanked by 1+1⁄2-story wings. It was built about 1790 and owned by members of the Nott family until 1977. In the 1930s, the house was remodeled in the Colonial Revival style.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

New Salem is a hamlet in the town of New Scotland, Albany County, New York, United States. It is located in a valley at the foot of the Helderberg Escarpment along New York State Route 85. A local fair and car show is held every year in this small hamlet. It is also home to the town of New Scotland's community center and museum.

LaGrange Farmstead is a historic home located at Slingerlands in Albany County, New York. It is a frame dwelling that encompasses five phases of construction. The oldest section was built about 1780 and the second about 1790. Construction in 1835 yielded the 1+1⁄2-story kitchen and wood shed addition. A 1+1⁄2-story, shed-roofed addition on the north side was completed about 1860. The final addition was completed about 1985. Also on the property are two heavy frame barns dated to about 1835 and 1879 and a frame corn crib.The land on which the Farmstead stands was originally settled in the early 1700s by Omie de LaGrange and his brother Isaac near the Normanskill. The last LaGrange owner of the land was Ella LaGrange McBride. It passed out of the family in 1956.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Houck Farmhouse is a historic home located at Guilderland in Albany County, New York. It was built circa 1850 and is a two-story frame farmhouse with a 1+1⁄2-story ell in the Greek Revival style. The ell features eyebrow windows and has an enclosed pedimented portico.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Prospect Hill Cemetery Building is a historic burial vault located in Prospect Hill Cemetery at Guilderland in Albany County, New York. It was built in 1863 and is a small one story cobblestone building. It has a slate covered gable roof. It is built of coursed cobblestones with smooth ashlar quoins and a stone lintel above the door.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Guilderland High School is a public senior high school, located in Guilderland Center, New York. It is part of the Guilderland Central School District. Constructed in 1953, the high school has since undergone additions in 1955, 1960, 1997, 2010, and 2021. Originally, the building functioned as a Junior-Senior High School, but after the construction of Farnsworth Middle School in 1970, the district divided the schools into two. As a school, Guilderland High School's enrollment jurisdiction also includes the village of Altamont, NY and the North Bethlehem neighborhood of Bethlehem, NY. Currently, the school runs on block scheduling.
