The Van Wickle House, also known as the Symen Van Wickle House, is a historical house located at 1289 Easton Avenue in the Somerset section of Franklin Township, Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. It was built in 1722 by Symen Van Wickle, also known as Symen Van Wicklin. The house, historically known as The Meadows, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 4, 1973.

Rutgers Preparatory School (also known as Rutgers Prep or RPS) is a private, coeducational, college preparatory day school established in 1766. The school educates students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade, located on a 41-acre (0.17 km2) campus along the banks of the Delaware and Raritan Canal in the Somerset section of Franklin Township, in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. Established in 1766, Rutgers Preparatory School is the oldest independent school in the state of New Jersey and the 16th-oldest in the country. The school has a frequently cited student honor code, and requires its high school students to complete ten hours of community service each school year in order to advance to the next grade level. The vast majority of students take Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and the academic environment at the school is highly competitive. Rutgers Preparatory School is a member of the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools.

The Meadows Foundation of Somerset County, New Jersey is a nonprofit corporation founded in 1978. It oversaw the restoration of seven historic houses in Somerset.

The Matthias Smock House is a historic house located along River Road in Piscataway, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 4, 1973. It is also a contributing property of the Road Up Raritan Historic District.

The Road Up Raritan Historic District is a 69-acre (28 ha) historic district located along River Road in the township of Piscataway in Middlesex County, New Jersey. It is north of Raritan Landing, once an important inland port on the Raritan River during the 18th and 19th centuries. The name is taken from an earlier colonial era name for what was once a Lenape path, Assunpink Trail that became a main road parallel to the river. Piscataway Township itself was formed on December 18, 1666 as one of the first seven townships in East Jersey, and is one of the oldest municipalities in the state. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 18, 1997, for its significance in architecture, military history, and exploration/settlement. The district includes nine of fourteen historic homes along an approximately 1.2-mile (1.9 km) stretch of River Road. The Metlar-Bodine House and the Cornelius Low House are also in the immediate vicinity.

The Eastern precinct was one of three components of Somerset County, New Jersey, United States, that was created circa 1745 and existed until 1798. It was spelled in records as Estering from 1766-1777, and as Eastern from 1780-1797. The Eastern precinct, together with the Northern precinct and Western precinct, were created as administrative divisions of Somerset County, while still under British colonial rule.On February 21, 1798, the remaining portions of the Eastern precinct were taken to form Franklin Township as one of the first 104 townships created in New Jersey. With the formation of Franklin Township, Eastern precinct was dissolved.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 30, 1973. It is also a contributing property of the Road Up Raritan Historic District.

Cedar Hill Prep School is a non-sectarian private school in the Somerset section of Franklin Township, New Jersey, offering an education from pre-school to grade 8. The school educates children from towns in central New Jersey including Somerset, south Bound Brook, Bridgewater Township, New Brunswick, North Brunswick, South Brunswick, South Plainfield, Edison and Piscataway. As of the 2015-16, the school had an enrollment of 265 students, and 30 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 8.0:1.
